The desk is vintage and is made from solid wood. I am unsure of its exact age or manufacture. The grain and finish on the desk are quite beautiful. The supports for the desk top slide in and out automatically when the desk writing surface is lowered and raised. The inside of the drawers is a little dusty and will need a light cleaning. The writing surface is 29” high when open, is 29.75” deep, and 36” wide.

Antique Renaissance Revival parlor table writing desk 1860
This unique parlor table is made of walnut and is in the Renaissance Revival style. It has some Neo Grec influence. The table is 42 inches wide. 24 inches deep and 29 inches tall. It has a brown felt top. There is a drawer in the front that comes out. It is made of dovetail construction. The table has decorative ornamentation along the sides and on the carriage underneath. This piece would have been used in a parlor as a table or possibly as a ladies desk. The piece dates circa 1860. The felt top may be a replacement as it likely originally had a leather top. The drawer is missing an escutcheon on the front. We have a key that can be used to open the drawer but it does not fit properly and will not lock the drawer.

for auction is a very nice antique mahogany signed r. j. horner kidney shaped carved writing desk. i suppose it is a ladies desk. at any rate. It has some very nice features which include five carved drawers with shell shaped pulls. it also has cabriole carved legs that end in nice claw feet on all four feet and legs. the mahogany grain is very nice and pronounced over the entire desk. a very heavy piece for its size. it is 48.5 inches wide, 24 inches deep at any particular place across the kidney shape. it stands almost 32 inches tall with casters, i expect it would be about 31 without casters. the knee hole is about 18 inches wide and 25.5 inches tall. it is very solid and in great antique condition. the legs had a little wiggle to them when i got it a long time ago and i reglued all of them. to my knowledge all the carving is in tact. ... moredrawers open nicely. a very nice and somewhat rare piece. actually i have never owned or seen another kidney shaped horner desk. i am sure there were several made but i have not seen any other than this one. a very versatile piece which can be used in about any room in your home. desk may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. i can help arrange shipment should that be beneficial to anyone. good luck. Just found at an estate sale here in Boston a really really nice and completely original American Federal 1820s writing desk with side drawer. Nice Period inkwells. Amazing condition for being almost 200 years old. Nice period piece and very hard to find. All of the hinges are strong including the writing compartments. Nice ivory inlay on the skeleton key face and a wonderful lock mechanism. I've been told this is military because of all of the brass reinforcements. I think it still could be a desk for very wealthy individuals. the very long drawer pulls out smoothly and on very solid condition. Great dove tailing and nice chamfered areas on the drawers backside. Both ends have a drawer handle but only one opens it up. The writing surface blotter board looks original. I bought a slanted writing desk and wanted to use it as a shelf. I took the door off and this decoration fell off. The desk and door are long sense gone but I found this cool decoration in a corner, long forgotten. So it is oak. The desk was sold to me as an 1800's piece but I do not claim to be an expert. This piece is 14.25" long and 6" tall at its center point. The paint as you can see is cracked and dirty with two small nails remaining. It is solid wood. ENGLISH made burr Walnut writing slope lap desk from the victorian era approx 1860-1880.lots of inlay. It is in fantastic condition and ready to use. It has had its leather writing surface replaced at some point in its life. Looks good. There have been repairs done in bits on the sides of box.nothing terribly bad and not terribly noticeable. felt on bottom has been replaced. The ink well comparment on one side has dividers and due to a bit of wood shrinkage. They will fall but they stay put if you put them in place and set the lap desk somewhere.the hidden comparment is missing the long piece of wood that has the trigger mechanism on it to hide the 3 drawers.it doesnt take away from the charm or beauty of it.one tiny drawer knob is missing.over all, its in great usable, sturdy condition.ready to be used to write your letters.i have 3 and ... moream keeping two.hard to let one go but i dont write enough letters to justify keeping 3. It measures 31 1/4" tall by 43" wide by 28" deep- it has five drawers with what appears to be its original turned wood handles- it has hand dovetailed drawers and is square nailed- the finish is either original or an old refinish- the leather top I believe is an old replacement- this is a chunky solid very well made piece of furniture- it has some minor use wear on the finish. Beautiful Antique Writing Desk / Souvenir Box from Nice France w/ Ink Well etc..
Beautiful antique writing desk/ box. This wooden box is an early souvenir of Nice France as indicated by the gorgeous script on the hinged lid. The box has beautiful color and wood grain. A lovely, ornate metal pull on top and a push button clasp that is still in working order. The inside of the box has an ink well. Metal with a glass insert and compartments including specialty compartments for your pen and stamps. There is also a built in brush which I assume is for cleaning the end of your pen. The wood base that holds the ink well and the one for the brush is loose but not broken. They will stay in place while displayed but you can glue them in place if you need them to be more secure. Or you can remove them altogether. As you can see in the photos there is a small and minor crack in the wood at the edge of the lid; this is an old crack ... morewith a patina that matches the box and there is no missing or loose wood. This does nothing to detract from the charm of this lovely box. it only adds character! The corners of the box and lid are put together with slat like wooden pegs. The hidden hinge, clasp and base are secured with flat head screws. There is a spring loaded pad inside the lid of the ink well that holds it firmly against the rim of of the glass ink jar. There is some dried residue around the rim of the jar which I did not attempt to clean. The box measures approximately 7" across by 3-7/8" deep by 2-3/8" tall. Antique Depose French Inkwell Writing Desk Pen Holder~ Ornate Brass gold filled
Antique French solid brass inkwell- maybe gold filled. It has a hinged lid on top that flips open to a clear glass ink pot. Two wide concave dish-design are made for resting pens. The dimensions are: 7" at its widest point by almost 7" deep. And sits almost 3" tall. The ink pot has 1" diameter. And is 1" tall. Primitive Antique Writing Desk with Lift Top
Up for auction is a great old piece of workmanship in a primitive writing desk with lift top. I believe it to be late 1800's to early 1900's. Showing square nails, just a great piece. I have attempted to show all sides, top and bottom of desk with the bottom showing some shrinkage in the wood to open a crack, just adds to the appeal. Measurements are as follows: front to back 17" across 15 1/4" and a little over 11" high, a nice portable size. Any questions, please ask. Circa 1890 Victorian Mahogany Cosmetic issues on top(see description) Sturdy and strong No key, This is a mahogany washstand that was made during the Victorian era in England. Around 1890. Today it would make a wonderful little writing desk or side table. Originally this washstand was used with a large bowl and jug on top. People would wash their hands and face there either in the morning after waking or before a meal. It is made from a lovely selection of mahogany wood that has developed a very attractive patina since ... moreits construction. Complimenting the wood are lovely brass pulls and a brass escutcheon. While there is a lock present in the single drawer. There is no key. The drawer is constructed with hand cut dovetails, a sign of age and authenticity. On the top you will notice a mahogany cross band and ebony string inlay around the edge. This is a common and attractive feature from that era. The top also has a small back splash that does not remove. We have rated the condition of the washstand/ desk as fair because of the cosmetic condition of the top. Structurally the piece is sound and strong. It will last for many years to come. The top does show an age split. Ring in the finish, a dark patch in the back right corner, and various small nicks here and there. None of these compromise the structural integrity of the washstand and do add character and history to the piece. As stated earlier, it would be an excellent piece to use as a small writing desk or as a side table. There are 25″ from the floor to the bottom of the piece. This is a very nice very heavy Desk Bureau made in USA circa 1820. There are a few little repairs to the flap but the rest of the desk is pretty good. The colors is a brown and slightly reddish. The drawers and the flap has satinwood string inlay. There are small areas were some is missing, it sits on splayed feet and has brass handles which may not be the original ones. The back and the drawer linings again are all original with dovetail joints to the drawers. Its fitted with 2 envelope drawers to the interiors and many small drawers with a few small brass handles missing. But we will try and find these before its sold. The slides work fine to support the flap. Measurements are 42 wide 20 deep. 43 high. Therefore, we brought it into the shop to hand strip, hand sand, hand stain and applied multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer. We even applied a brand new application of antique red color felt. The hand cut dove tail drawer pulls out with contour corners. The drawer has a maple interior and has a divided section for your pens or articles. The base is gorgeous with multi-turnings, finials, fluted, reeded, applied buttons, burl walnut raised panels and a 2.5” burl walnut border trip across the top. The finish is a medium walnut stain with a satin sheen lacquer. The overall size is 40 inches wide, 26 inches deep and 30 inches high. It is a fantastic looking writing table.
