I believe this to be a 19th century Victorian unusual brass writing desk inkwell/ pen stand in the form of a grotesque gargoyle-like zoomorphic beast. It has a hinged cover with ports in the ears to hold quill pens. c.1880) It has wear. It has not been polished and has been in storage for many years. Antique American Mahogany Writing Desk Bureau with Brass Handles Made in 1800s
This is a very nice very heavy Desk Bureau made in USA circa 1820. There are a few little repairs to the flap but the rest of the desk is pretty good. The colors is a brown and slightly reddish. The drawers and the flap has satinwood string inlay. There are small areas were some is missing, it sits on splayed feet and has brass handles which may not be the original ones. The back and the drawer linings again are all original with dovetail joints to the drawers. Its fitted with 2 envelope drawers to the interiors and many small drawers with a few small brass handles missing. But we will try and find these before its sold. The slides work fine to support the flap. Measurements are 42 wide 20 deep. 43 high. This has been cleaned polished at some time and is in pretty good condition. if you need any more information please call 561 804 6700.

Beautiful Antique Library Table or Writing Desk made out of quarter-sawn white oak. The wood is cut in such a way to reveal the large flaking pattern found in white oak(Quercus alba) that has been quarter sawn. Once stained. The wood has a rich golden color as seen in the photos. The table measures 28 inches wide. 45 inches long, and 29 inches tall. There is a hidden drawer on one side and a shelf across the bottom. This table is in great condition for its age. Desk has scroll work, brass hardware, and leg designs that are characteristic of furniture from the 1800's. The color of the desk is a dark brown with hint of red. It is a beautiful desk. It has had some minor repairs. There is a modern screw on the backside of the desk. Also there was a repair that is photographed of one area that has been re-glued. Also one crack can be seen on the right back corner of the desk. Desk also has some surface wear which should be expected for a piece this old. We took it to our most knowledgeable antique expert here in Sacramento. He told us that it was made between 1830 to 1870. But most likely around 1830. He says that it was English made. It is made of Burl Walnut on the outside and faux Rose wood painted on the inside. The lid has a brass plaque in the center and the name Miriam is engraved in it. There is several types of shell and in between all of the different woods on the lid there is brass inlay. The writing surface is the original velvet, you can still even see a pretty border painted on the velvet. It could be replaced easily if you want, we like it like it is. It has a spot for an inkwell and a spot for a sanding pounce. ... moreIt also has a spot for the pen to lay in and in the center there is a spot to store accessories. It does have a small piece of wood missing by the sanding pounce spot, doesn't detract from the look or function. On the underside of the lid, it has a latch to bring down the writing surface to store papers and such in. The lower part of the writing surface lifts up for more storage. It does have some condition issues, a couple pieces of abalone are missing, along with the white material. There are a couple of chips to the burl walnut and a couple of minor cracks of the burl walnut. It is beautiful and we decided not to fix any of the issues. We think it shows the character of the piece. It came out of an estate from San Francisco. It measures 13" x 9" x 5" high. It would make a wonderful Christmas or Hanukkah gift! I don’t know the name of the maker, but this tabletop/countertop desk box was surely his own personal tour de force. The primary wood is walnut with secondary pine. And if forced to guess, I’d say the diamonds inlaid top and front are apple or some ... moreother fruitwood. There is a 3 ¼” level surface at the top with a gallery of posts and arches to keep things such as a bottle of ink or a candle from sliding off the back or sides. Plus. It is just the right size– not too big– not too small. The box is approximately 18 ¾” wide. 14 ½” from front to back, and 10 ½” tall to the top of the 2 ¼” gallery. Because of wood’s tendency to shrink over the decades. The male and female pieces of the lock no longer meet precisely. It is an easy fix involving setting the lock out a fraction of an inch. However, I’ve done it often enough to know that if one forces it closed, sometimes it simply refuses to open again. That is why, in some of my images, you will notice I removed the lock. Better safe than sorry. The bottom is good old American pine. And the nails are square for the most part. Notice the clever cut-outs. Which allow for easy closing– no rubbing against the hinges. The wonderful handcarved cabriole legs with such an ornate fineal structure under the desktop are outstanding and capped with very ornate bronze eagle talons gripping it's ball feet. Such details present this piece of history ... morewith style, grace and strength. No one at the sale knew much about this table/desk. Except that it had been in the family for generations. The joinery helped in dating this piece to prior to the industrial age with it's hand carved ducktails in the drawer and the ornate eagle talon/claw and ball feet tend to point towards an upper east coast, i.e. New York, Rhode Island, Maryland, origin probably sometime around 1850-1860. The only maker's or craftsman mark are the numbers 1111 carved into the bottom of the desk and 1114 carved into the bottom of the drawer. A previous owner may have attempted or started a refinish job on this piece, but did not do much other than some spot touchup. It is pretty amazing the way it sits, but with a little know-how and the right products on the desk surface(the legs and fineal are darn near perfect) this piece would be simply stunning. The bottom has the name L.E. Abbott written on it in pencil, and the initials are also in one of the desk flaps. All of the wood is in great shape, but it is missing a part of one band that goes over the top(see pictures) The wood is rich and beautiful and this inside contains a tray, a liftable desk top, and overall is lined with red felt. A very fine. Antique 19th Century Burled Walnut Slope or Lap Desk with original inkwell and two secret compartments. Closed. Box measures 6 1/8"H x 13 5/8"W x 9 1/8"D. Opened. Box measures 1 1/2"4 1/2"H x 13 5/8"W x 18 1/2"D. Leather writing surface measures 13" x 10 1/2" One side of the writing surface is spring-loaded for opening. It appears to have been repaired at some point. top can be opened with a small screwdriver inserted and sliding sideways from left to right. The second side opens easily with a fingernail. Revealing a second wood panel. This second panel is removable by pulling up the small side wall that houses the inkwell. Circa the late 19 th century. The 15 ¾ inch long. 5 inch high folding lap desk is in good overall condition considering its over 100 year age. The top opens and closes freely and easily and the hinges are securely attacked. The original burgundy felt desk cover is intact and in good condition on both halves of the writing surface. The wood pattern on one end gives the appearance in the photo as a dent but it is straight. All of the brass pieces are well attached and none are missing. The brass lock is there but although the key turns and the latch moves it does not catch the corresponding piece in the lid. We are pleased to offer this EXQUISITE. Antique(early 20thC) French, Louis XV, ladies, petite desk/secretary with hutch. The pieces are burled mahogany and rosewood veneer. They are oval(the hutch is demilune) and there is a decorative bottom stretcher that is large enough to function as a shelf. Both the desk and the hutch feature EXCEPTIONAL. Marquetry inlay with unique patterns. The patterns are urns, ewers and flower pots accented with leaves and flowers. These are somewhat"ancient, earthenware" looking patterns, instead of the usual, more formal, marquetry designs. The marquetry is abundant and is present on the front, sides, bottom stretcher, as well as on the top of the table and the top of the hutch. The back profile of the hutch is a grained, rosewood veneer. The desk features a center drawer with old, dove tail joints. ... moreThe hutch features a center, open storage area, two side storage areas with doors, and a center drawer. The doors are hinged with brass hinges and are fixed with brass, flat head screws. There are ornate, bronze mounts on the front legs and the front feet. The hutch has two holes underneath which fit into wooden dowels located on the table top. The finish more of a satin/matte rather than extremely glossy. There are no makers marks or stamps on either piece. Both pieces are in good condition. Structurally. They are very good and they are very sturdy. There are some cosmetic blemishes with some scratches and chips. These are not terribly severe or distracting and most of them can be resolved. As it is, the desk is quite beautiful with a slightly aged character. This is an unusual piece with fabulous marquetry design. The piece measures as follows: When together. Antique 19th Century Mahogany Lap Desk Writing Box
99 cent start with no reserve! This auction is for an antique lap desk dating from the late 1800's. In the closed position. It measures 12 1/4" long by 9" from front to back. It is 3 1/8" high in the back and slants down to 1 7/8" high in the front. It is in good structural condition but has several minor flaws which I will now describe in detail: There are areas where the finish is worn unevenly. Some light scratches, and other minor signs of wear. The felt material covering the writing surface is rough along the area where the lid folds down on the inside of the desk. There is some old tape on it there. There is a small sliver of wood chipped off the rim on the left side of the desk(See the last image where arrows are pointing this out) Part of the small felt strap that is used to pull up the writing surface is torn ... moreoff. Only a stub of it remains. The small interior lid that covers the pencil box inside has ink stains on it. There are a couple tiny screws missing from the hinges. But the hinges are fine and working well. There is no key for the locking mechanism. Most of those flaws which I just described are of the minor variety. It could stand to be refinished which would enhance the grain nicely. Or it could be enjoyed with the original finish just as it is. That's up to the winning bidder to decide. Before bidding. Primitive Antique Slanted Writing Desk Schoolmaster Depomaster General Store
I have a very old. Large primitive handmade slanted writing desk from the mid to late 1800s. It was probably used by a schoolmaster or possibly a depomaster as it has the cubby organizers inside which makes this piece more desirable. It is made of pine and has a very old green paint. It looks like it had a lock at one time, so it possibly could have been used in a general store as well? The hinges and nails are original, I can't see where anyone has tried to repair this piece. There are a few cracks in the wood. It measures 31" wide by 27" long by 9 1/2" tall. Antique Vintage Oriental Calligraphy Writing Desk Set Buddhist Temple
This is an antique vintage Oriental desk set for traditional Asian calligraphy and writing. It is in the form of a Buddhist temple. The writing exercises inside are Japanese. So I'm guessing that the production is also. It is made of different colored plastic. As you will see in the pictures, it conceals the writing instruments in the top under the roof with a hidden drawer for the paper in the front. It is in good condition, though the silver accents on the roof may have at one time extended to the corners. But the measure is uniform, so it seems to be intentional at some level. The clear door underneath the roof that stores the brushes is also a little loose in the latching from use, but overall it is a very nice, beautiful piece. It measures 15" x 7" x 7"

This is a stunning antique ornate 19th century Victorian cut crystal and silver-plate inkwell jar. the lid is very ornate and done with an abundance of intricate stylized floral detailing wrapping the sides done in high relief. the top of the jar has multiple hand engraved initials which are equally as ornate. the lid opens and closes on a hinge attached to the silver-plate collar. it snaps shut nice and tightly and has a lovely patina from age. the inkwell is made from deeply cut clear crystal. it is also very intricate and a nice box shape. it measures 2 5/8 inches tall by 2 inches wide. it's overall in nice antique condition but has two chip/flakes on the side and bottom. Antique American Civil War period lap desk or writing box in pretty good condition measuring 3 1/8" tall by 12" long by 8 3/4" deep. There is wear to the original paint finish as shown but the gold stenciling is still fairly bright. There is no inkwell but the original key remains. The Mount Airy Furniture Company which produced this fine desk was in existence from 1895 until June 9. 1997 when a fire completely destroyed it. Please note, this desk is not new therefore it isn't perfect, it does have some minor cosmetic imperfections. Exquisite vintage American solid wood executive desk. It measures 6” high x 16” wide x 9-1/2” deep when closed. There are four compartments at the top to include a lift-lid pen tray, two ink wells and a lidded compartment. The desk opens to two larger compartments, one reveals secret drawers. There is a small key that fits and operates the lock. Condition: Leather skiver professionally restored. No cracks or breaks, just very light uniform wear from gentle use including surface scuffs& scratches and horizontal stress lines on the lid. It will need some tweaking, the access panel is loose.
