We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. This Attractive writing desk is made out of solid wood, and it has a Victorian style medium/dark red/brown stain finish color that makes it look like Mahogany but it is definitely a hard wood that looks more like OAK to me. There is a slight curve to the front to the drawer sides which adds a very nice flair. The top is solid wood, not veneer. It is in it’s original condition so there are scratches on the desktop due to normal everyday wear. There is a Decorative edge that has been added to the edge of the top that may not have been original. Antique Child's Miniature School Desk, Wood & Cast Iron Metal Kindergarten Size
I found this miniature child's school desk while cleaning out an old farm homestead. This desk is very small 20" tall. 17.5" long and 12.5" wide. There is a pencil groove in the top. It is wood and cast iron construction. Definitely an old one and its condition is commensurate with the age. Just as I found it, the paint is worn and missing, the metal is rusty and pitted. The bottom of the legs appear to be missing some type of foot perhaps and one leg is slightly shorter. The wood has NO rot issues. Vintage Furniture: Antique Wood Writing Desk- Cherry- 2 x 4 ½ Ft. This neat old desk is in the Queen Anne style. It’s all wood with solid cherry and cherry veneers. And brass hardware. I got it from an antique store about 20 years ago. The store owner said he brought it back from a buying trip to England. It’s very functional and cool looking. It can be used for all kinds of purposes in addition to a normal writing desk, including dressing table, computer table, side board, etc. The only reason I am selling is that we are redecorating after moving to a new house and need something completely different. The top measures 24" 2' deep. 54" 4" 6" wide, and 29" tall. There is a 23" wide center drawer with a built in pencil tray. There are two, 12" drawers(one on each side) There are two, 18.5" wide ... moreslide out writing extension boards that extend another 12" out of each end. Most of the wear on the piece was there when I bought it. But there were a few more unavoidable dings of my own along the way. There is a general collection of small nicks or marks, and a small piece of veneer missing on the bottom front edge. Any such issues are easily reparable, but that was just never anything I needed to do when I was using it. Now that I’m redecorating anyway, it’s easier to just price the piece on the low side and let the new owner take care of things as they wish. I can’t really ship this due to size and weight. But you can pick it up in Bean Station, Tennessee(less than 1 hour NE of Knoxville and 1 hour from the Smoky Mountains. a nice place to visit if you haven’t been here! This is an antique Victorian 1800s solid wood sloped travel lap desk with working brass lock and key. Featuring. Brass hinges and lock, blue felt writing surface with two storage compartments underneath. It has two inkwell compartments and the center section for pens lifts out. Found inside the center compartment was six nice quill pen ends and what appears to be some sort of pencil. The lapdesk wood looks beautiful and is undamaged. There is an inscription inside the box it is pictured and says that" This box was presented on December 25th 1852" So obvioulsy a Christmas gift. This listing is for the 1867 lap desk. It is signed in pencil under the felted desk lid. I think I make out the name to be Cruch. And possibly lanc(lancaster) and definitely 1867(see photos) The insides are overall nice for age with what may be the original green felt. It has some holes and pitting as shown. It's got a wierd kind of locking device which I can not. For the life of me see a keyhole or how it would lock. It is in the center section on the edges of the top doors. Speaking of the top. It is missing a mother of pearl piece on the top. And you can see there is damage to the veneer, mostly o nthe lid. On the front left side, there is some damage to the upper corner. There is a brass inlaid medallion with 3 initials"FROM" and another set of 3 initials. There is cracking. Splitting and some raised areas on the wood veneer. There are 2 nails used as pins to hold the hinge together. Really quite a shame it's in this condition, but with some patience and dedication, it could be restored. Gunlocke Co, Wayland, NY. It is very solid and in the same condition now as when I got it, with normal wear as expected on such a piece. Antique Unusual 1930's Sessions Wood Case Desk Table or Mantle Clock
Up for auction is a wonderful 1920's-30's Art Deco Sessions desk. Table or mantle clock in VERY original condition. This is a very interesting unusual clock with an all wood case that must have taken a lot of work to create. The clock works sit in a fully rotating case suspended in a hoop of wood with beveled and carved layered wood topped with a nice finial. No damage at all to this case. Inside is a wonderful crinkle painted clock fase marked SESSIONS. I removed the works, cleaned and oiled them and they do run but could not get them going once back in the case. I did not spend a lot of time and only let the works run for about a day before trying to put them back. This is a case where a professional would sonic clean and oil this and possibly fix the issue. It was obvious from the dust that this clock was not used for years. Bottom ... morehas its original brown felt. Measures 11' wide x 9" tall x 3" deep. This is an amazing survivor being very fragile. Antique wood desk set with ink bottles
This antique wood desk set includes two hand cut crystal ink bottles with faceted tops and hinged brass collars. Each side of the glass are four beveled squares. There is green felt under each bottle. There is a handle for carrying and under the handle and on each corner are decorative brass pieces. On each side there is a depression for pens. The set measures 12”W x 7-½” L. The base corners are rounded and it has four round feet. Overall condition is very good with some wear to the black paint and one of the ink bottles has a chip on the bottom. There is a small hairline on the top of the other bottle on the inside. We are listing for your consideration a lovely Antique 19th Century Primitive Folk Art Inlaid Burlwood Wood Jewelry or Desk Box. This box is in Excellent Original Condition with some minor loss to the inlay on the bottom and top front edge and minimal in the top and side designs. The bottom wood has 2 cracks that extend the entire length. The brass hinges and screws look to have been replaced at some time. The lock is original, we do not have the key, and the small chain to hold the lid upright is broke, easily replaced. There is some minimal play in the top lid. There are secure splits in the veneer on both side edges and the back of the lid and 1 to the back of the bottom section. You can refer to the pictures. No other issues, we guarantee you will be more than happy with the condition of this box. The box measures 13 3/4" x 8 1/2" ... morex 5 1/2" and weighs approximately 3 lb 1oz. Great intricate inlay work to the box along with great veneer burlwood. The box originally had an insert, we do not have it. Constructed using nails and screws these items substantiate the date because they are of a type not made much after 1860. The door opens and closes smoothly and the lock is secure. This is a stunning antique hand carved wooden dog desk top inkwell/ pen holder. the dog is completely hand carved with an abundance of intricate detailing and is very well made. it has a dual inkwell in the shape of cut tree stumps and open and close on brass hinges. there is a spot in the center carved out of the detailed forrest base which is used for a pen holder. it measures 12 by 8 1/4 inches. in nice shape. ANTIQUE SCHOOL DESK WOOD TOP& FOLD UP SEAT W/CAST IRON LEGS FROM ASCo. Up for Auction is this Vintage Antique Children's Wood and Cast Iron Desk by ASCo. The desk is used and is around 100 years old. The desk is in good condition for its age. It has never been refinished(beyond whatever may have been done while as an active school desk) and it shows evidence of student usage age and wear. The desk has the hole designed to hold an ink well and a pencil tray stop. The cast iron legs show signs of surface rust or patina. The desk is very sturdy and solid. And is screwed to its original runners. Embossed on both side of the cast iron legs state“ASCo#4” The overall dimensions of the desk is approximately 20 1/2” wide. 29” long including the Seat in front and 27 1/2” tall. The book shelf is 9 1/2” in depth, 16” wide and 4” high. Many use ... morethese as decorative displays for plants. Antiques, and crafts. But, if you want to play“school” you will need a chair because you are suppose to use the desk behind this one as the chair. Take a look at my other listing. ASCo is the American Seating Company and was started in 1880's. From 1911 to the early 20's the American Tubular Steel Combinations Desk made school furniture history. ANTIQUE RARE CHILD'S OAK WOOD ROLL TOP DESK Up for Auction; Used Rare Vintage Antique Child's or Doll Oak Roll Top Desk. This desk is in Very Good Condition for its age. I do not know the exact age but believe it was around the late 1920's. I do know that the desk was stripped of its original stain and clear coated to bring back its original true oak color. And the drawer pulls were replaced, in the late 1980's. The desk show the normal wear for its age. A few of the wood slats appear to be loose but all are present and intact. One of the Front legs of the desk has a wood gouge. There is a small blue plastic pen holder that is glued down inside of desk(the pen is missing) There is NO chair with this desk. The overall dimensions is 15”deep by 20 1/2” wide and 33 1/2” tall. The interior of the desk is 12 1/2” deep and 17 1/2” ... morewide. There are 4 cubicles inside of the desk each measuring 3 1/2” deep by 3 1/2” wide. The drawer 11 1/2” deep and 15 1/4” wide and 1 1/2” high. Many use these as decorative displays for plants.
