Probably c. 1910-30 Item# 130008GQJ26 Crafted during the first years of the ... more20th Century. When fervor for antiques of the Louis XV taste were still at a remarkable high, this very attractive French Louis XV Bureau Plat was embellished with great effort. Featuring a solid mahogany top with a molded edge, the front of the bureau plat has a long hand dovetailed drawer for storage, opening to reveal a solid golden oak interior. The keyhole escutcheon is probably the finest bronze mount on the desk, a piece that prominently features the rocaille movement around the fully functioning key and lock. The apron is shapely, the front and back mirroring the flow of the top with a slight inversion in the middle. The cabriole legs are formed with very fine gate, the tapering form nearly perfect in proportion to the table, each surmounted with an intense rocaille Gilt bronze mount with the"C" form featured actively as it curls over the entire knee- a thin reed of gilt bronze continues to flow down the leg into the beautiful Gilt bronze sabot mounts with curling toes. This is a fully functional piece. Not just being a beautiful decorative art, the form being sturdy and strong throughout with a clean writing surface. For decorators passionate about the French Louis XV form, this is a wonderful find. Measurements: 39 1/2" wide x 23 7/8" deep x 29 1/4" high to top of desk; 24 1/8" high to underside of drawer(when sitting) Condition Report: Light dings and chips throughout. Including some loss to the corners of the drawer, a small"dent" in the top and scuffing to the top. Overall very attractive, the typical wear and use abrasions being somewhat limited and the overall desk being quite well preserved. The bronzes are of medium quality with some pitting and cracks from the foundry process- we believe the mounts are unsigned, though only one sabot has been removed and examined. Antique Vintage Burled Inlay Wood Writing Desk Box This is a GORGEOUS box. Might be Child's Writing Desk. Inlay and burled wood on the top and bottom. On the inside on both sides. One inside compartment is open and not divided. The other side has divided compartments. Please see pictures. Design of wood on the front and the back and inlay burled wood. Great condition! Has a slight crack in the top on right corner and one white mark on the bottom. The top has a slight warp on one side but not really noticeable. Here is an antique wood and metalwork cover. I have seen a similar example as a cover of a cabinet card photo album(see auction 251786244676) and as a cover to a desk blotter. That type of blotter was popular in Europe about 100 years ago for full page blotting. This type of cover could have been used in either case. For sale is just the cover. Or what you see. It is fine metalwork affixed to wood. Please see all the photos. It is in good antique shape with wear and patina. it measures about 12" x 9 1/4. I have seen this type of raised metalwork before by John Henning Jr. His work though was highly reproduced so I will say it is in his style. Antique Roll Top Desk 1900-1950 Dark Wood Tone
This desk was found in a courthouse basement in Arkansas back in the early seventies when my father was county Judge. Have tried to locate any information on it but not very successful. Locks on it were made by Eagle lock Co. which went out of business in the early fifties. I've seen refurbished desks of this style listed for 1500.00. There are a few loose and missing pieces from drawers that can easily be replaced. Cable is detached from right side of roll cover. Has been used in a home for 40 years and not stored. Chair is included. Please ask any questions you may have and I'll be happy to provide you with the best answer I can.
