Here is a hard-to-find curved glass door for a 1890's- 1900's oak side by side Secretary/ Bookcase/ China cabinet. It is made of oak- quarter sawn on the top and bottom curved boards and straight sawn on the sides. All original with the original shellac finish. Latch but no handle or hinges. Some shellac on the glass(removable) Glass in good shape. Now the important part: It measures 27 7/8" tall. From the outside corners across the back is 16" wide. The hinge mortice is 1 1/2" and starts at 2" from either end. The lock hole is at just over 15" on center. Shipping is high because it's going to take a lot to box it to prevent breakage.

Square nails, mortise and tenon joints and hand planing marks are all authentic. Locks and keys work, the drop front rests on pull out supports. Inside are 11 small drawers plus a locking compartment. Upper doors have carved pegs at the corners. Brasses are about 100 years old but not original on this very functional European country antique. 1789-1823 ANTIQUE AMERICAN FEDERAL FLAME MAHOGANY SECRETARY BOOKCASE EXCELLENT We rarely characterize one of our antiques as“important. but this truly outstanding approximately 200 year old piece from the American Federal period is the exception. It consists of separate upper and lower cases with a fold over slanted writing surface with the following features& characteristics: The outstanding mahogany finish with crotch mahogany veneer is in excellent condition. Viewed from front or sides. The entire piece has a stunning, rich and warm patina. The upper bookcase and desk features a handsome projecting molded crown/cornice with a flat top. The double glazed panel bookcase doors feature individually paned window glass. All but two of these beautiful old wavy glass panes are original. The two(which were cracked) have been replaced with wavy ... moreold glass of the same period. Three wood shelves. Original to the piece, are fitted inside the bookcase. These. Plus the bottom of the book cabinet provide four display and storage surfaces for books and collectibles. Each of the 3 shelves is 39.25” wide and approximately 7.25” deep. There are two shallow. Aligned drawers immediately beneath the bookcase and above the desk surface. Please note the photo attached showing their hand cut dovetailed joints. The original brass knobs are sized in proportion with the drawers and match the larger version of the same on the lower case drawers. Immediately beneath the two drawers. The surface unfolds to reveal a slanted, hinged fall-front writing surface. Two pull-out. Brass-ringed narrow lopers(wood supports) slide out to secure the desk top when open. The drop front desk brought down automatically advances the lopers to support the desk. There cubbyholes and drawers, with center door doors compartment. Handsome and commanding. It comprises three independent parts- 1) Moulded cornice with graceful profile accentuated by faux inlaid dentils 2) Two-door book cabinet with intersecting mullions defining nine glass panes each 39”L x 11.25”D x 44.5”H 3) Drop-front desk has 8 letter pidgeonholes and 4 drawers laid out side-by-side. Drawers have beautiful brass pulls. Original leather desktop has embossed border around. The drop front has swan neck brass pulls and plates. Although the righthand pull is missing. The cabinet below has two doors with frame and panel construction. Bracket feet support the whole at bottom. The desk is made of mahogany intricately inlaid ... moreacross cornice. Desk front and lower cabinet doors with ribbons& garlands together with fine trim lines and geometrics. These inlays may be period or may have been added in the later Edwardian(1890-1920) The top of the drop front is trimmed all the way around its perimeter in satin wood. Both right and left sides of the three components display a rectangular accent trim inlay. Desk drop front. And upper and lower cabinet doors have large keyed case locks, which date the desk to the late George III period. Original keys are included. This is a superb example of English cabinet-making art at the highest level. The desk is in very good condition. With few dents. There is a horizontal crack running from the lower right side to about the middle of the desk front(see photo) The brass pull on left side is missing. The wood trim at the top of the lefthand letter pidgeonhole needs re-glueing. Small piece from left foot on side needs re-glueing. Interior desktop leather is original and could stand to be replaced. Walnut with matched flame burl panels. The finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique. There are shrinkage separations for character, see photos. The pull out desk is lined with contrasting curly or"birdseye" maple. The writing surface is natural saddle leather. Tiny drawers inside have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms, two also have false bottoms with secret drawers. The removable bookcase has wavy glass mirrors that appear original.
