The only thing I don’t like about this cylinder desk is that the finish is light, similar to a cherry, but it is walnut wood. It has the original heavy bold brass hardware, and is in really nice shape. The pull-out writing surface has green felt on it. When you open the double panel cylinder roll, it reveals a simplistic double drawer interior that is simplistic.

Offered for auction is this very nice circa 1870's-1880'sWalnut Victorian Eastlake style drop front secretary/bookcase. Top of secretary has a spindle like crown pediment over the glazed doors. Adjustable shelves for books or displaying glassware. This top part of the cabinet is removeable. The desk has a large carved design on the front of the fall front desk top and opens to reveal pigeon holes. Slots and two small drawers within the desk itself. The fall front provides a large writing surface. The desk portion sits over a full width single drawer with two half width drawers and a cupboard base w/ door underneath. All drawer fronts have applied rectangular panels with walnut burl veneer covering the entire panels. When I saved old ink wells and antique books it was set up as a victorian desk and bookcase complete with inkwell and quill pen. When I wanted to use it(as it is shown) to display my green depression glass, the glass shelves displayed that beautifully. It is a solid oak piece with all the original hardware and original beveled mirror. We did add the glass shelves. They were missing when we purchased this piece many years ago. It has a drop leave desk that hides all the little cubbies and small drawer. There is a storage closet and a larger drawer under the drop leave desk. We have the original key and it still works. It works fine on the glass door that encloses the glass shelves and it also works fine on the drawer under the desk top. The mechanism is missing to lock the large door under the desk top. There is no reserve on this really beautiful antique walnut slant front drop lid secretary desk with bookcase top. The bookcase top has 2 shelves above the base of it. The desk is 80 inches tall. 39 inches wide, 17 inches deep. There are 2 dove tailed drawers at the writing surface level, one on either side of the 8 divided storage sections. The writing surface is in good condition. When the drop is open it is supported by 2 wooden boards that pull out under it. When the drop is closed, you can access 1 long dove tailed drawer and below the drawer 2 doors open to a base with 1 shelf in it. All the brass hardware is original and in good condition except a repaired handle on the left side of the bottom of the base. Excellent condition. Buyer must arrange and pay for pick up and delivery.

But this complete top is in lovely, age-appropriate condition. I believe the wood is walnut with pine as a secondary wood. There is a top section that lifts that goes the entire away across with the molding. Revealing pigeon holes/cubbies. On either side of the piece are large doors.the left side has a grid of cubbies. The right side has horizontal dividers, with pretty ogee divider detail for vertical file storage. Four drawers with horizontal beaded details.they no longer have their pulls but move freely. Other than that, it’s all original, dating from the 1850s era. It has all the original hand-chamfered backboards on it. It starts with an ogee molded crown top, and has two beautiful wavy glass doors with two shelves inside, two hand-cut dovetail drawers, a flip down flame mahogany matched veneer lid that opens to reveal a green felt writing surface, which we have replaced, and pencil trays on the side. The top drawer opens to support the writing surface. Below that are two more large drawers with wooden knobs and traditional elephant style scroll feet. The overall size is 43.5 inches wide on the base, 21 inches deep, 32 inches high to the writing surface, and an unusually tall 83 inches high overall. It’s in mind-boggling condition for a piece this old. There only minor chips here and there, and it has an amazing patina. This desk comes in two sections for transport. The bookcase doors have the original wavy glass panels. There are three adjustable walnut fronted maple shelves. Includes the lock and key. The secretary has a butterflied burl veneer roll top. Up for purchase is this beautiful Drop Front Secretary Desk with Glass Door a three shelf book or display case on top. I am told this is Birds Eye Maple but I am not 100% sure. I am not sure how old this is but I believe it to be an Antique based on the locks on the desk and the hardware. As you can see in the pictures this displays and looks beautiful.
