The base has a slant top drop down writing area and small drawers on each side of the writing area. Behind the slant top are cubbies and another drawer. All 4legs are ring turned. Overall this piece is in great condition for its age. The top is showing some wear. Scuffs and scrapes. There is a split in the top board on the left side as well. I do not know the maker or exact date this was made. It is antique and will not be perfect. Measurements are 59 ¼ inches tall, 42 ½ inches side to side and 20 inches front to back. Gilt& blind tool leather. Below. There are three working moulded drawers to each side of the table. On one side. There is a large compartmentalized central drawer. All drawers feature working locks and keys and the original brass key escutcheons. The drawers are hand dovetailed and constructed with oak(a sign of good quality) Below the drawers sits a lovely moulded lip edge. The table sits on four lovely baluster shaped oak legs. The legs feature the original brass castor tip collars and original brass castors. This type of table was designed to stand in the centre of a room so that the three working drawers each side was accessible. The previous owners tell me ... moreit came from the Proctorsville Vermont Post Office. I looked it all over and couldn't find a makers mark. The canvas backing for the roll top is marked as follows: PIEDMONT MANF. CO. DRILLS. Piedmont Manufacturing Company was a South Carolina textile manufacturer that was in operation from about 1873 to about 1977. Please see the pictures. The desk is predominantly made of oak. The drawer backs and other structural parts are made of softer wood. There is a column of 4 drawers on the right with a wooden locking mechanism in back. The desk top with lifting panel that exposes a spring-loaded swing-up typewriter platform. And pigeon holes with 5 drawers(one labeled Coal Orders) In one drawer is a fragment of paper with 1920s dates. I don't know if that is original to the desk or not. The slightly serpintine roll top has the original working lock and the original key(a cool one- see pictures) The lifting panel lock and the drawer lock is lacking the key. The sides and back are panelled and are quite decorative if you want to have the desk stand in the middle of a room. A very fine and rare antique. Circa 1890's, quartersawn oak Louis XV style cylinder rolltop lady's writing desk. It is finished on all sides, four cabriole legs, two front drawers with maple interiors. The maple cubbyhole has two flame birch veneered drawers, the interior back also of flame birch veneer. The roll is in working order, with the lock and key(Vetter Desk, Rochester, NY. It measures 3'9" 45" tall by 3'6" 42" wide by 2'6" 30" deep. From the floor to the bottom front drawers measures 24-1/2y" tall. Excellent condition: original finish, mild soiling on writing surface, no chips, partial tight crack on left side board. Tiny pale stain on upper right top board. The brass pulls have some dents. All together lovely desk!

Oak Secretary Desk/Bookcase– American Late 1800’s– one of a kind. Refinished and restored by a professional company. Medium oak with original hardware. High quality detailed claw feet in front and carved design on front of drop down desk top. Carved design on the front of the canopy at the top of the desk. The mirrors are original and are beveled around the perimeter of each mirror. The mirror on the left was broken. But has been put back together, but shows the crack. There are three drawers below the drop down desk top which are functional and slide in and out easily. The bookcase on the left has four shelves which are adjustable plus the bottom is also a shelf. 125 year old (1889) antique oak desk bookcase secretary - La Crosse Wisconsin
Antique oak combination drop front desk bookcase secretary. 10 compartments& drawer inside. fixed shelf on bottom. Original beveled mirror. drop front has a key and it locks! After I purchased it I discovered the back of the little inside drawer had the words"Wm Thomas 1889" written in pencil. It is very faint. But readable. While restoring I took great care as not to damage the writing. I can't guarantee that it was written in 1889, but I do believe it is genuine. The front drop desk was missing and has been replaced with very old oak to match the piece, and an antique lock was installed. It originally had hinges on the drop desk. I couldn't locate antique replacement hinges and thus I went with brass chains which work very nicely and look great. I bought a slanted writing desk and wanted to use it as a shelf. I took the door off and this decoration fell off. The desk and door are long sense gone but I found this cool decoration in a corner, long forgotten. So it is oak. The desk was sold to me as an 1800's piece but I do not claim to be an expert. This piece is 14.25" long and 6" tall at its center point. The paint as you can see is cracked and dirty with two small nails remaining. It is solid wood. Staining on all work surfaces. Water stain on lower portion consistent with Flood damage. Stood in basement flood 1998 for a day. Roll-top sliding portion has separation from some of the fabric and I do not move to avoid further damage.
