The secretary has an amazing custom cut beveled mirror with a 1-inch bevel, that is on the top at the right side and lovely carved details and applied accents all throughout. The backing on the mirror is a bit loose, but this should be an easy fix. The piece is lockable, however, there is no key with it. It also has the original metal hardware, which is absolutely incredible and ornate as well. There is a lot of light staining and wear as well as scratches and dings to the finish.

This beautiful secretary has a center portion that folds down with a leather topped writing surface. There are pigeon holes inside for storage. Below the flip open lid is a small drawer for storage. To the left and right of the center desk are glass door book shelves or display cabinets. All hardware is original. The pull on the right glass door was broken off many years ago. The brass hinges are signed Made In England. It is 54" wide by 46" tall in the middle and 12" deep. This is a nice narrow cabinet for small spaces or in a hall way. Constructed out of solid Mahogany from an unknown time and location. Originally purchased as a gift to my Grandmother from her Husband. My Grandfather, many, many years ago. This piece of furniture is in excellent condition and truly is a wonderful looking piece. A simple yet elegant design that easily coordinates well with many different décor styles. Display shelving is showcased by three beautiful glass front cabinets with their original curved glass windows and a gold gilding decorative trim. Glass is in excellent condition. No chips. Cracks or sections of gilding missing. There are a total of three shelves within the display window. Lower portion has pull-out secretary desk that has a working lock and key. Interior of desk area contains an inlaid leather desk pad with gilded(gold) detailing to writing area. Secretary area also holds ... moreone drawer and five shelves to organize your items within. Lower section contains 3 deep drawers which measure 28-1/2" across. 6-1/2" deep, 11" wide. Two side cabinets also containing three shelves each. Little to no signs of wear throughout this piece. It is located in an inconspicuous place and is not deep or attention catching, and most likely can be easily fixed with a touch-up wood stain. I have not attempted it. ANTIQUE TURN-OF-THE-CENTURY SOLID MAHOGANY DROP FRONT DESK/ SECRETARY WITH BENCH This is a beautiful antique solid mahogany secretary in a lustrous light blue oil-based finish. It features plenty of storage space within a compact design. Opened or closed. This secretary makes a statement in elegant simplicity. There is a slight crack in the wood at the bottom left of the door which is only on the outside. it does not go through. Nor does it affect the beauty or functionality of the piece. It is a minor flaw and very common in a 100+ year old antique. With a rich complexion and a striking grain. Satinwood string inlays and flame mahogany crossbanding adorn the fall, providing a lovely contrast. Each drawer features ... morehand-cut dovetails and solid brass pulls(recently replaced) The brass escutcheons. While quite attractive, no longer house functioning locks except on the fall which does lock and includes a key. Each side has a horizontal line where the piece was obviously cut in half to remove from a home and put back together. These lines are purely cosmetic and don’t affect the structural integrity of the piece. During a past restoration, a line of black stain was applied to these separations to complement the actual dark inlay around the bottom. Inside the bureau desk part is a very nice mahogany work surface that measures 37″ wide x 22″ deep x 31.5″ from the floor. There are three small drawers and eight nooks for storing as well. When closed. The fall does not completely close(there are small gaps on either side) but does lock. All of the drawers open and close easily. You will see from the pictures that they do not close flush to the bureau, as we often see with solid wood antiques. This is a beautiful antique drop front desk. It is made in the Larkin style. I have not seen any marks that indicate a maker. The piece is dark wood and may be either mahogany or cherry. I am not a wood expert. There is a mirror and two candle holder/sconce shelves for detail, there are also shelves for books. The piece has some wear and tear on the wood, see pics, but nothing huge. It needs a good cleaning! There is no lock detail on the front and no locking mechanism. The last picture shows a brass detail piece that can be added if you like. It will be included with the item. Beautiful Antique Chippendale Style Mahogany Secretary Desk
This has been in our family since it was bought new- probably in the 1920s- maybe a little earlier. It is in very good condition- original finish and all original hardware and glass. It is very solid. And inside it has various neat cubbies, including two hidden compartments. It has claw feet and a lot of nice details. I have looked around, but haven't been able to find another one exactly like it. The manufacturer's label is long gone, but it is a quality piece(the original owner had a seat on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange) We would keep it but can't find a place to put it in our house.
