The top section is 8.5" deep with shelves that are 8" deep. The reticulated wood/ glass doors are 14" x 26" The serpentine drawers are 13" deep. It features four Eagles Talons or claws for feet. There are two thin brass straps missing from either side on both the front and the top. This was caused by wood shrinkage over the years, which is also the reason for the stable crack down the middle of the cover. On the inside is the original felt writing surface. Originally, this felt made a cloth hinge and over the years, the velvet has split and the bottom writing panel is loose. Underneath the top writing surface are two tiny dovetailed drawers. There also is a second dovetailed drawer on the side of the case with a recessed brass handle. The brass hinges, lock, and recessed handles are original and in very good condition. This circa 1850s Mahogany Lap Desk retains its original finish. Here we offer a beautiful turn 19th/ 20th Century Queen Anne. Ball and Claw Slant Front Desk. Sea Shell cartouche motifs. Not your average, run of the mill desk. This baby has crisp carvings and intricate construction. It stands on four high beautifully curved and carved legs, ending in ball and claw foot. Front lid carved to the max opens up and sets on the support slides that pull out on ends. Judging by the lack of the pull handles on the slides, and by the bronze hardware mechanism, I believe the slides to have been mechanical. Desk interior features four drawers, four upright drawers and another four cubbyhole compartments. Outside there is one wide center drawer, with two additional ones. It is in good. Old Vintage Antique :Leather Top Partner's Desk Liverpool England Fine Mahogany
Thrift store fresh. It has a name on it that we can't make out that appears to start with the letters"M-O-S-T" and was made in Liverpool England. Large, heavy piece-measures about 70" long by 46" across, and stands about 30" high. Condition is good with a few expected bumps and bruises, and two handles that are there, but need to be put back on. A few pieces of missing beading strips are missing, but there are a couple pieces of it in the drawer, and can be put back on with a couple dabs of glue. One of the long beaded pieces around one side is somewhat loose, but again, it will take all of 2 minutes to re-glue it back into place. It has only a couple minor dings where the wood has small losses, and that one split that will need to be re-glued down, and stained over(see close-up) We were tempted to polish it up ... moreand re-stain a couple areas ourselves, but the patina and wear is so fantastic, we decided to leave it alone in case some of y'all liked it that way. One of the side doors(with faux drawers) is loose, and will need a second hinge before it can be reattached properly(see photo) All these are simply minor details, and with about a 1/2 hours worth of TLC, you will have a piece worth multiples of what we are asking. the leather top is in great shape, with no rips or tears, and only the expected wear for an old piece like this. Due to the size of this one, it is offered with local pick-up only here in the Chattanooga area. Not to sound mean, but the price is FIRM upon pick-up, as the last two local pick-ups turned into haggling sessions in my driveway, and that is not going to happen on this one. This graceful. Pedestal desk is in good condition for its age. It was refinished many years ago after it was found abandoned in a Chicago area alley and has belonged to my husband for over 40 years. There are no manufacturer marks on it. It has one locking drawer with hand-made key. Drawer knobs are wood, but are probably not original to the piece. Drawer is 23 ¼” wide x 19 ¼” deep. India ink stains in the drawer give an indication of its age. Drawers have dove-tail construction and are solid wood. The top writing surface is in good condition, but there are some gouges and dents that give it‘character’ The pedestal is 31 ½” wide and is 19 ½” in depth. There is some veneer chipped off of one of the pedestal ends and some surface scratches on the base of the legs as shown in the pictures. I believe this is an older Carlton McLendon Victorian reproduction piece. But I do not have a label. The mahogany carving is particularly well done compared to newer reproductions. I had the chair re-holstered years ago, but it was used very little, so it's in great shape. Fabric is a vintage design in dusty pink. Very classic looking. A minor issue is that the fabric was set slightly too low at the top of the back(front) which exposed a sliver of less finished wood. This is not a use issue or general appearance issue. 54607 ANTIQUE 1890s CARVED MAHOGANY PAW FT 46" BOW FRONT KNEEHOLE DESK
A very fine antique. Circa 1890's, solid mahogany carved kneehole desk. The front and back sides are bowed, the sides with relief carved scrolls and scalloped rosette. The desk is finished in the round, on four paw feet. The top surface is a thick veneer. The secondary and drawer interior woods are maple and oak. Desk measures 28-1/2" tall by 46-1/2" wide by 27" deep, the kneehole 22-1/4" tall by 20" wide. Excellent condition: original finish, case without chips or cracks, top surface faint use scratches overall.
