EXTRAORDINARY ANTIQUE PHILIPPE FRENCH DORE BRONZE MANTLE CLOCK
This is a fine French Philippe bronzed antique mantle clock. It was made ca. 1875. Very impressive ornate ormolu from top to bottom. The dial has white porcelain medallions with roman numerals and a porcelain"label" Philippe FT. 66 Palais-Royal, 67, which was the address of a very upscale Parisian gallery. The glass on the front is beveled and appears to be original as is the beveled glass on the back door. The front and reticulated sides of the clock are a superb blend of golden bronze and ebony, as is the surmounted ebony, which could be onyx, and bronze urn finial. The clock has bronzed floral swags draping the urn and draping between the two full columns on each front side. The pictures describe the clock better than I can. The movement is marked G. Philippe, 66, Palais-Royal, 67. Clock measures almost 19" in height, approx. ... more11 1/2" in width, and approx. 6" in depth. Outside case of the clock is dusty and needs to be cleaned. The inside looks to me to be clean. I hung the numbered pendulum on the clock only for the picture so it most likely is not hanging right because I know hardly nothing about clocks. The pendulum will be removed and wrapped separately for shipping. On one side a leaf is missing. I do have the large floral ring that is off. It is not noticeable unless you are looking for it due to all of the fancy work all over the clock. I do not have a key but I think I can find one that fits. Please do not count on that if you decide to bid. If there are any other imperfections that I have not seen but show up in a picture, it will be considered as described. The clock was purchased at an estate sale that had quite a collection of various kinds of clicks. I have listed everything that I know about the clock. I do not make money on shipping. Antique Sessions Wood Temple Style Mantle Shelf Clock
Up for auction is an antique Sessions temple style mantle or shelf clock in a medium toned wood. This clock is 10 3/4 in. high. 15 1/2 in. wide and 6 1/4 in. deep. The face is marked Made By The Sessions Clock Co. Forestville, Conn. U.S.A. The movement is marked similarly. The pendulum is marked with an S. This attractive looking clock runs and keeps good time. It gongs on the hour and the bell rings on the half hour. There is some light scratching on the center of the glass door. The back door isn't all original and the side handles are missing. The case has some small punch marks which are visible in the pictures. This is still a nice clock that displays well. Please look at all the enlarged pictures as they are part of the description. To guard the“back door” against the time thieves there are another four PHOENIXES inlayed and superbly engraved on the inside of back door. The case is covered with tortoise shell inlayed and trimmed with brass. Superbly engraved, all according to celebrated Boulle technique. This is an antique French Picture Frame clock. The frame of the clock is 18 3/4inches by 18 ¾ inches.And is in a Louis XV style. There are porcelain cartouche numbers held with bronze. The face of the clock is signed but we can not make out the name. We have not seen the back of the movement, so we do not know if it is signed. This clock dates circa 1880. The case is in very good condition. The dial has two small hairlines near the key holes. The clock winds properly(not over wound) but we were not able to get it to keep time for long. An antique French spelter pot metal clock figure statue in the form of a young man with an amphora form bottle and stopper. This seems referential to a trade. But I'm not sure which one. A chemist/ pharmacist seems most likely, but he may also be meant to represent a perfumer or a doctor. This has some wear and loss to the gold paint finish, several spots of discoloration and greening of the finish as well. The backside has two large areas of missing paint on his cloak. Marked LSF. There are no cracks, breaks, repairs or chips that I can see. There is crazing throughout the piece as seen in photos. This beautiful clock depicts a Victorian lady sitting on a chair, petting her loyal dog who is standing beside her. The dog appears to be a greyhound. Behind her is a nicely decorated clock mounted on two large columns. The clock is in good working condition. Keeps perfect time! The dark areas on the dial face, I believe, are oil from the clock movement or works. I believe after years of oiling the clock the oil came through. There are some light dents on the metal rim around the dial face but they are not very noticeable. The metal has a very nice old patina. Mantel clock to die for, the quality of bronze work is beyond fantasy! As one of my costumers, who is not a clock person, said to me"wow, this is prettier than my jewelry" Base is a green marble, than up goes a beaded rectangular gilt base. From it starts a pair of foliate-capped lion's paws tur ned back to back. Continuing up to a mean looking Ram head. Heads are connected with lovely repposse crossbar, with which they form a large frame. Inside the frame is a beaded oval frame that contains a lovely classical Jasperware Plaque of a young nymph. Between the(two) horns on each ram's head, sits a large round frame of the clock face. It is topped with a beautiful ... morebow! The clock face bears the name of the manufacturer"E. F. Caldwell" and"New York" Back of the clock is all cased, amazing, almost feels sealed air tight, laced with screws. Ansonia Wall Regulator wood trim pieces. 12" diameter each section is approx 4-1/2" 5"outside) x(inside length 3" long x 2-1/8" wide. Missing one piece. Leaving nails in.will receive as in photos. The four holes at the top was for the movement.the lower two was for the gong. The paper label was glued there with the gong screwed in over. T his part came from a clock that came from Connecticut. The clock was missing a wood piece. So would have not been repaired. The movement was dated to 1882. I will be selling other parts of the clock separately. An antique. Circa 1880's, French Louis XVI style brass regulator clock with champleve enamel decorations. The sides are beveled glass panels. The brass pendulum is a beautiful lady head with sunburst around. The center brass dial is champleve also. The clock is not in working order: main spring broken. Sold"as found" No key included. The clockworks are marked: Etienne Mavant, Paris. It measures 14" tall by 6-3/4" wide by 6" deep. Very good condition to case: brass without dents or breaks, original patina, enamels without chips or cracks. All glass panels without damage. Missing the knobs to the two doors.
