Rare French Perpetual Calendar Mantel Clock Signed'Cromey. Bristol' Circa 1850 Very nice gilt bronze French Perpetual Calendar Clock with marble base. Enamel dials and the case is glazed(glass) on the sides/rear. The c lock's movement operates properly and the clock is in excellent condition. The 14 day movement strikes the hours and half hours on a bell with a Brocot dead beat escapement visible through the upper dial and a compensated pendulum of brass and steel peculiar to Ellicott's design. The gilt engraved dial mask; the upper white enamel dial with blue steel'Breguet' style hands and Roman chapter ring; the lower perpetual calendar showing: day. Date, month, equation of time, and moon phase. The numbers on the calendar dial around the inner circle indicate the difference between solar and mean time. Which shows ... morethe'equation of time' This allowed people to set their clocks by using their sundials. The movement signed'Cromey. Bristol' and numbered 31945. Connecticut Incorporated February 7. 1853, the New Haven Clock Company was formed by clockmaker Hiram Camp and others to supply clock movements to the Jerome New Haven Clock Company Manufacturing Company. Then the largest clockmaking operation in the world. Three years later, the Jerome firm went bankrupt and in April of 1856 the New Haven Clock Company raised an additional $20,000 and purchased the Jerome operation. By 1860. The firm employed 300 men and 15 women and was producing about 170,000 clocks a year. In 1866, the old Jerome factory was destroyed by fire, but a new brick factory was soon built which survives today with many additions. Their working force had increased to 460 men, 52 women and 88 children by 1880 and nearly a million dollars worth of clocks were produced that year. Non-jeweled pocket watches were added to the line that year and were offered until the 1950's. New Haven had trade connections with Jerome& Company Ltd. 7' Early Antique English Grandfather Clock R. Brownsword Derby
This beautiful old Grandfather Clock stood in my mother's house for as long as I remember. It is not in working condition as far as I'm aware and I'm not a clock expert. The pendulum is not connected but the weight is. We have separate pictures of the pendulum and weight for you to see. Please bid on this clock as is and feel free to ask as many questions as you need to. The glass has a crack. But not sure how clearly you can see this in the pictures. There is a faint signature on the face of the clock that says R. Brownsword Derby. My mother had a piece of paper in the clock that verified her reading of the signature as well. I found very little information on this clock maker, but did find a Peter Brownsword of Derby that made clocks at times between 1814-1857. update.we were able to install the pendulum. Also. Antique Swiss Bronze Miniature Clock w Chinese Figure (#3886)
Antique/ vintage 17 jewels miniature. Gilt bronze, figural clock. The body is English, made by Bentima circa 1930's and the movement is Swiss. This is a true miniature clock. Measuring just over 2 1/2 inches high and a little under 2 inches wide. 4 ball feet support a rectangular casket shaped base. Above this is a domed. Elongated body with a round face, engraved Roman numerals, calibrated down to the minute. On top is a winder. Next to the body of the clock is a chinoiserie figure of a Chinaman, sitting cross-legged, with a tall, pointy hat, ruffled collar and engraved detail to his clothing. A round opening at the back reveals the movement. Which is very fine and in good, working order. It is engraved with Bentima STAR, SWISS, 17 JEWELS. Good. Original condition. Antique hanging clock. Clock is Swiss set in silver with guilloche enamel and marcasites. Probably French and dating to the late 19th/ early 20th century. Measurements: diameter of clock alone is 1 7/8 inches. The mount is 4 inches long. Excluding ribbon and bar with loop. Total length is approx 7 1/4 inches. Exquisitely made and finest. Finest workmanship all round. Mount is silver with engine turned, pink guilloche enamel in patterns that seem to hover and dance as the light catches the surface. The bar that suspends the ribbon and rest of the piece is in matching silver and enamel. Both pieces are hallmarked on the back with 935- above sterling standard of silver. The clock has a border in blue guilloche enamel. Also engine turned, with a very fine pattern. It is set with applied numerals, all done in silver and marcasites. There are no missing or broken pieces of glass or porcelain, the sides and back did not come with any glass on them as I have seen from looking at other examples online. 18th Century Duverdrey & Bloquel Antique French Brass Carriage Clock -- WORKS!
Up for auction is a beautiful carriage clock by Duverdrey& Bloquel. It has retained its patina which gives it a bronze-like quality. I don't believe this clock has ever been shined. It may actually be bronze- we're not really sure. The mainspring appears to be fine and the balance wheel is moving freely as you can observe through the oval window at the top. The clock measures 5 3/4" tall to top of handle and 3 1/4" wide. The porcelain face is beautiful and the hands have turned a blue-ish colour. Not being a clock expert I am not able to guarantee its condition. But its owner assured me that it was serviced years ago and was in working order in the 1980's. I have since recently wound it and it has kept time. It has a new key that is not original to the clock. Invest in this gorgeous antique timepiece now. c.1880 New Haven 8 Day Anglo-American Wall Clock- Wonderful Banded Inlay Work A very fine Anglo-American inlaid wall clock. Beautiful example of the English case with an American movement(New Haven in this case) which was exported to England and mounted in an English inlaid case and sold to the English market. This is a very nice example of clocks made from the 1850's. Featuring English cases with American(New Haven) hour-striking movements. While there were thousands made, very few of them are around today in as good a condition as this clock. The unusual feature in the clock is the use of beautiful rosewood veneer on the scrolled base of the clock. The 8 day New Haven movement features a count wheel strike on the hour. It strikes on a nickel plated bell. The movement is running well. And keeping good time. The ornate case is in excellent ... morecondition. With all veneers in place. The finish looks original, and was recently polished and waxed. The turned columns and finials are original. The glasses are also original, with no cracks. The dial is in excellent condition; it may have been restored or replaced at some time in the past. The faux mercury pendulum is original. As is the mirror; both have been cleaned and polished. The clock has a wonderful porcelain or ceramic case covered in pink flowers and gold accents. On the back it has a label that indicates it was made by Waterbury and the clock is a Parlor Number 94. The clock has the original movement and the clock is in excellent working condition– including the gong. It measures about 12" tall and is in nice condition but there is a repair to one of the high points at the left side. There is also a shallow chip on the front at the 10:30 position. Antique Car Clock This auction is for a really nice and very rare antique car clock that was made by Waltham back in the 1920s-1930s range. The clock has a pocket watch shape or design. But it’s much larger measuring about 3¼" wide, and it has a long winding stem at the bottom. The clock is mounted in a wonderful folk art case shaped like a church with a little brass bell in the stop. The dial of the clock has an up/down indicator that tells you how much wind is left in the mainspring and it has an 8-day movement. Just a great piece and in great condition with minor wear. Clock winds but won’t start, so it does need a little work. Case measures about 10½" tall and it does have age– probably from the 1930s. Guaranteed old!
