RARE ANTIQUE CHINESE CARVED JICHIMU & HUAMU WOOD TAPERED CORNER CABINET 18/19 C
We would like to thank each of you who watched and participated in our last few auctions of Important Chinese Furniture. In response to the enthusiasm and desire for rare and period pieces of Chinese art. And a continued rise in the value and stability of the Chinese Art Market as confirmed by Bonham's most recent Asian Sale, we have been given the opportunity by a local private collector to offer this extraordinary piece of Chinese furniture: A Jichimu& Huamu Tapered Corner Cabinet. The cabinet is composed of expensive and rare hardwoods. And is the pinnacle of traditional Chinese furniture making during the Qing Dynasty period, with its STUNNING and large burl-wood front panels showing scholarly grain patterns from“volcanoes” and“sandstorms” to“ghost faces” and“hellfire” These are patterns only seen on these special wood types- ... moreand are what make them so highly desired and valuable. The cabinet beautifully tapers slightly from the base towards the top. Cabinets of this caliber. With the beautifully raised quatrefoil relief panels, are the product of expert craftsman and would’ve only been affordable to the wealthiest of households, with many ordered for Imperial use. This continues today with similar cabinets and ones of lower quality regularly selling in excess of $100.000. It’s important to note that the cabinet is entirely constructed with the use of interlocking wood joints– no nails– and is made from all solid. Hardwood– no veneers. The cabinet is in good condition measuring 63.5 inches tall by 34 inches wide by 18.75 inches deep(161.29 cm by 86.36 cm by 47.62 cm) Please see the attached image of a very similar Ming Dynasty Period Cabinet- no doubt worth in excess of $100.000. The cabinet in the scanned photo has been published as a cultural relic of China by Mei Ninghua. The cabinet we are selling here is very similar and also shows signs of age consistent with possibly being of the 17th to 18th centuries. Vintage. Mid-Century Modern, Bentwood Chair. There is no label or maker's mark but it looks like a Thonet bent plywood chair from the Eames Era of the 1950s. The finish is a medium, to medium-dark brown. 30 1/2" tall, 18" deep, 18 1/2" wide and weighs 16 pounds. Condition: Normal wear for this vintage. Two small nicks on the edge of the seat. Some small scuffs a round the edges. Wear to the finish on the back rest. Several scuffs around the base of the legs. Sturdy and comfortable. Overall, good to very good condition. The wood is ebony or grenadilla and the keys are nickel plated and there are no cracks. Mechanically it is in excellent condition. This is a VERY unusual piece! It's an old hand-made jewelry display case(I wish I knew just how old) The type of wood is unknown. But appears to have some dove-tail construction. The handle appears to be brass. The glass is sturdy. Slightly beveled, and is 1/4" thick and measures 15" X 8-1/4" There are a few minor scratches on the glass, but overall appears to be in relatively good condition. The display case height is 3-1/2" tall. The display drawer slides out and is covered with a green velvet-like cloth with two main dividers and a total of 18 sections(no slots to hold rings) I will package this item with utmost care and ship within two days of receipt of payment. Tag on the inside reads Franz Schwarzer Washington Missouri. There is a date inside. 1873 but do not know if this is when this was made. I was also told by an Ebayer that this is actually from 1907? Long crack on the back from end to end but still very solid. Fret board is also cracked. No cracks on top, no warping. This is about 22" long, 11-3/4" wide. Some nice inlay around the sound hole, this is missing some strings. Case looks to be original. Very old, falling apart a bit, lid is not ... moreattached, no handle. Pickups are always welcome. Antique Primitive Metal & Wood Spatula
I got this old spatula from an auction in KY. I'm not sure if this was for kitchen use or an old tool. It looks like a spatula to me. So that's what I'm calling it. Antique Sheffield Pearl Handle Pastry Knives and Forks in Wood Case
Set of Antique Sheffield Pearl Handle Pastry Forks and Knives(6 each) in Wood Case. The blades of the knives read"P&M SHEFFIELD" The wood case is approximately 8 3/4 X 6 1/4 X 1 7/8 inches. The case is in good shape with decorative clasp with the back which appears to be leather paper is scraped and missing in some areas. The corner joints seem to have a slight space in some of them. The forks and knives seem to have crusty old hide glue in some of the joints. The silver is slightly tarnished but I did not want to take a chance on cleaning them. They have been stored in our cabinet for over 30 years. Inasmuch as we are downsizing and moving to another state. ALL SALES ARE FINAL!
