ON AUCTION: Lot of 2: Mixed Vintage Maruhon Styled"Hobnail" or"Raised Diamond" Pattern(i.e. Tashiro Shoten? Cream Ware& Somayaki Aohibi Ceramic Tea Cups 1) of 2: Vintage 1950s( Hobnail MARUHON-Style Decoration Cream Ware Ceramic Demitasse Tea Cup Maruhon pieces were typically marked as well as Tashiro Shoten's. And yet the surface design on this petite porcelain is so distinctive it seems to suggest some sort of important provenance! But, alas, it only has a MIJ stamp, so perhaps it was a knock off? It exhibits a very rustic"hobnail" or"raised diamond" pattern, which is less smooth than either versions of cream ware we've seen. Also, we note that this type of high relief texture most often appears on cast iron teapots. So this is an unusual example in pottery. The little cup shows the seams ... moreof its mold and sits a little off-kilter; not wobbly, but a bit slumped on one side, as if someone was trying to quickly get a set in the kiln. Hmmm. INTRIGUING! Counterfeit ceramics? Special order for the Emporer who liked nubby surfaces? We aren't sure, except of this: it may only be a demitasse cup but it truly OVERFLOWS with handmade charm! Measures approx. 2.25" h x 2.5" w. Good condition. With no chips, knicks, or cracks. Stamped MADE IN JAPAN in black on base. 2) of 2: Vintage 1960s Somayaki Aohibi Double Wall Ceramic Tea Cup with Cut-outs Somayaki(Somaware. Soma Ware* saki or tea cups with a double-walled cutout design and a blue-green and brown crackled pottery glaze finish. Double wall insulation keeps the liquid hot while the outer surface remains cool to the touch, eliminating the need for handles. It measures 4.5" h x 4.5" w. Good condition. Child's tea set offered here includes: 4 dinner plates, 5 cups and saucers, 1 sugar bowl, 1 creamer, 1 teapot, Known imperfections are as follows: The lid on the teapot and the top handle of one of the cups show some smoke stain. Revealing that this set survived a fire. Please see pictures. One of the cups has two hairline cracks; one of which is clearly visible only on the inside. Please see pictures. One of the other cups has hairline cracks around the handle. Please see pictures. One of the dinner plates has a chip. In the picture of the four dinner plates. Lovely. Old, Japanese porcelain tea set,with hand painted geisha and landscape decoration, and gold detailing. The cups have geisha face, lithophane images in the bottoms. Each piece is marked as shown. It looks like a Satsuma mark, but not certain. Input welcome. The set consists of: 1- 7" tall. Lidded teapot. 1- 4" diameter x 5" tall. Vintage Japanese Red Chocolate/Coffee/Tea Set– pot with lid and 4 cups& saucers. This lovely vintage Japanese Chocolate/Coffee/Tea set with red and gold trim consists of a pot with lid and four cups and saucers. The pot has an attractive fluted shape and is wider at the base than at the top. The tranquil scene of geisha in a garden runs all the way around the pot and cups. The pot with lid measures approximately 9.5" high. The base of the pot is about 5" across and from spout to the end of the handle. It is approximately 6" wide. The cups are approximately 3" tall and are translucent. There are no cracks. One of the cups has a small chip. Which you can see in the last picture. A lovely gift for that special someone. Included in this lot are the following items: One(1) Van Houtens Cocoa cup. This cup stands 3 7/8" tall and is 3" in diameter at the top and 2" in diameter at the bottom. The front side of the cup reads as follows: Van Houten's Cocoa. The back side of the cup has an image of a man carrying a tray with cocoa on it. The bottom edge of the front of the cup has a little discoloration. One(1) Douglas' Chocolates cocoa pot with the original lid. This cocoa pot stands 3" tall and is 4" in diameter. The lid is not attached and removes easily. There appears to be a couple of small cracks in the center of the Douglas' Chocolates logo. Three(3) Nestle's ... morecoffee cups with two matching saucers. The coffee cups stand 2 15/16" tall and are 3 3/8" in diameter at the top and 2 1/2" in diameter at the bottom. Vintage Miniature Tea Set With Pot, Cups and Tray 1930's
This little tea set is from a collection of small items that dates to the 1930's. I am not sure of the material. But it is not glass or ceramic. I think it is clay that was baked. The tea pot is decorated with painted daisy's and has a little top with a flower that comes off. There is also a wire handle. There are 4 cups, Japanese style with no handles. Each cup is a little over 1/2 inch in diameter and a little less than 1/2 tall. The tray is 3 inches across and the tea pot is I and 1/2 inches tall and about 1 an 3/4 around. It is stamped China on the bottom of the tray and pot. The colors are a tan with black veins running through it.
