Vintage Steve Thornhill Road Racing Bike XL Sized Frame Campagnolo Stamped
Vintage Steve Thornhill Road Racing bike. As shown. The bike has an extra large sized frame, measuring 24" from the centre of the crank to the top of the centre tube where the seat post goes in. The bike has been in storage for some time and when i got it, it didn't have a rear derailleur, which I fitted(a Sachs type, which suits the bike's retro feel) The bike has a nice metallic purple paint job which is original to the time of the bike's manufacture. It still has the original Steve Thornhill decals, although they are rubbed in a few places and would need a little touching up. The bike has'Reynolds 653' stickers in a few places, on the frame and I believe this refers to a mixed Reynolds group set comprising of 531 main tubes and forks and 753 rear stays. The bike comes complete and as shown. I bought and fitted ... morea new'GT' seat for the bike. Which again fits the retro feel. The gears and brakes are complete and all work though they could do with some lubrication and setting up, perhaps. The'Alex' wheels are good and pretty straight. The tyres are showing some age fatigue but they are solid enough and keep good pressure. The frame itself, has the magic name'Campagnolo' stamped into the rear stay on the gear side. I'm led to believe that Steve Thornhill was a Birmingham cycle shop owner who bought Italian built frames and made bikes using his own decals and spray finishes as well as chosen components. One imagines this frame would have cost a great deal in its day. The frame's condition isn't too bad although, it does have some chips and scratches to to its' finish and a few very small rust spots here and there. Some chain rub to the finish on the lower back stay. Surface rust on the cogs but the chain is OK it just hasn't run in a while. Campag pedals and Shimano twin cog drive, Shimano front derailleur and gear levers. One or two small rust spots on the components but again not bad. There is one very tiny dent in the crossbar but it's hardly

OK. All you BMX historian's know all about Big Daddy Ralph, Ralph Mundia was an ICON in the world of BMX. One of the first BMX Vendors, and the go to guy to have the trickest stuff in BMX. All the custom powdercoated GT's back in the day with matching rims etc. all done by"Big Daddy" if you wanted custom bearings, if you wanted trick lace jobs, etc. there were very few places you could go and Ralphs Bicycles was one of the original BMX Speed Shops. Well as with most trick shops back in the day. They wanted to build their own frames, and Ralph was no different. He started up the HUSTLER brand. Originally Ralph was getting leftover CW and Powerlite Frames and welding his trademark gusset on them, I have seen a few very rare JMC and GT frames with Hustler Gussets on them) and eventually he did his own production run of frames. ... moreThis one only has the headtube logo left on it. Zeus frame and fork. Paint is not in great shape. Some rust. I've tried to show all tubes. An owner engraved SSN on bottom bracket, which I've whited out- no rust or nastiness under there. A lovely Victorian lightly Tinted Photograph of a Disney type Shaggy Dog sitting on a covered seat with a striped pillow back. The sweet dog has its head turned away from the photographer. Looking down. Perhaps this was taken outdoors as it looks like trees in the misty background. The photograph has been trimmed to the White Design in the orginal photo as all corners of the photo were badly damaged when I bought it many years ago. Vintage English sterling silver repousse picture frame for photo. The entire surface is nearly covered with ornate scrolls and Jacobean designs including small birds within the top rounded'corners' and birds in flight on the two bottom corner spaces. The center top has a smooth oval cartouche surface that has not been personalized with initials. The back and side edges are covered in a deep purple plum shade of velvet. The back easel has a blue satin ribbon attached that connects to the frame. Beneath the easel is a small brass piece that swivels to lock the back in place and to allow it to be removed for inserting a picture.
