This came from the estate of a German doctor with a huge collection of German and Asian Antique items that were auctioned by a big name high end auction house. She was allowed to keep only a select few items with her in a nursing facility and this is 1 of 2 bronze that was at her bedside. She had this bronze for 40 + years per her family. Achieving such a high level of detail requires a very complex and time intensive production process: At the beginning moulds of wax were created. Including drains for air and melted brass. All that was covered with clay. The mould was dried and fired. At the same time the wax melted and created a hollow space which was later filled with molten bronze. After casting and cooling the ceramic mould was destroyed and the brass core removed. Here Artist original clay sculpture is nearly ready for the foundry. Note the artist is still adding the finishing touches. Most sculptors prefer to work with ... moreclay or wax; some however. Do use wood and other mediums. Here the finished original clay is now complete. The sculptor will take it to the foundry now, get a bid then begin the first stages of the lost wax process. The first step can be shocking for some as they begin to decide how this original will be cut up. In order to prepare the original clay sculpture for molding. It will be dissected by cutting the clay with wire and by cutting the armature with a saw. The armature is what helped support the clay in place while the artist was creating it. Note the registration marks which later in the process will serve to realign the parts. Shown here are the sections of the original clay sculpture after having been dissected. Now the various parts of the original are carefully mounted on clay plugs before the rubber mold material is applied. The clay plug later serves as a pour spout for the mold. As you can see now they begin painting the latex rubber onto the original together with the clay plus that's been added in layers. Large antique cold painted Austrian Vienna bronze devil cigar box humidor teufel
Fine novelty bronze depicting Satan carrying a large trunk on his back the trunk is cold painted to show a dark brown wood effect which I have tried to show in the photos. The gold coloured match container door swings open and the recess to hold the matches is actually set deep into the marble base. I can find no makers mark though the inside of the trunk has a old green baize lining to it so it's possible the makers mark could be under the green baize. The quality and quirkiness and size lead me to belive it is most likely by franz bergman. Incredible fine detail and wonderful patina to the whole piece as can be seen in the photos. Undoubtably Austrian with his finely detailed lederhosen and dating circa 1880-1920s in age. Size, total height is 230 mm And marble base is 90 mm by 150 mm showing minor chips see photos. The hinged trunk ... morewill hold around 6- 8 thick cigars or many more cigarettes The trunk measures 120mm tall by 85mm wide by 60mm deep. As you can see the detail and craftsmanship that went into the design of the trunk such as the false lock and the hinged handle as well as the devils detail is outstanding. Devil seems to have some form of club or stick wrapped in his tail see photos. A very fine and rare collectors piece of which in 20 plus years of collecting antique devils I have never seen another similar.

This is a very gorgeous Austrian Vienna Bronze bear with fine workmanship. The details on the bear are absolutely fine. Making the bear look realistic as possible. Vienna bronzes are very well known for there workmanship and details. On the bottom of the bear there is the AUSTRIA hallmark. The size of the bear is 2 1/2 inches tall and 4 inches in length. Incredibly Detailed. Large Antique Bronze Grasshopper Inkwell with double inkwells This antique bronze grasshopper inkwell looks similar to the Vienna and French Bronzes. It has wonderful detail, some gilding remains which gives an iridescent appearance with the original green patina. It must have been really beautiful in it's early days. After all these years, it's in great condition, measuring approx. 12" long, 4" high and 8" at the widest point of the legs, and weighs approx. 4 lbs. There are some marks on the bottom, but I don't know what they mean. This has been in the family for decades. There is only one porcelain ink pot and it has cracks but the cracks are old and secure not fragile, no liquid seeps through, a little of the original gold rim remains. The leg unit is attached to the thorax with screws and ... moremoves slightly, but is secure. The hinge of the wing unit is in great condition and moves easily as it should. It probably needs cleaning. This is a wonderful piece and certainly has gotten a lot of attention through the years. everyone who sees it loves it! Please check all of the pictures. The object bears the golden"FBW" mark(Fritz Bermann Wien) They are handmade individually. So please allow variations in color. This figure is 80mm wide at the widest point and measures about 46mm in height. About the production of these miniatures The material of the object is brass. Achieving such a high level of detail requires a very complex and time intensive production process: At the beginning moulds of wax were created. Including drains for air and melted brass. All that was covered with clay. The mould was dried and fired. At the same time the wax melted and created a hollow space which was later filled with molten bronze. ... moreAfter casting and cooling the ceramic mould was destroyed and the brass core removed. The drains were then taken off and the whole surface was engraved by hammer and punch followed by the very costly and detailed painting.
