A collection of three lovely Antique Vienna bronze desk or bell pushes. Two of the bell pushes are mechanical and one is signed by Carl Kauba. The other is unsigned. They are operated by pushing the heads together in order to make a connection. This enables a seperate bell wired through the onyx or marble base to ring. The bell push with the gentleman holding a walking cane is by Franz Bergman and stamped with the Bergman foundry mark to the underside. All three are beautifully detailed and in very good condition apart from some small nibbles to marble base on the bell push with the standing boy and girl. The object bears the typical Bergmann"B enclosed in a jug" mark. The designer was"KLAR" thats why it is also marked with a stamp of the artist. This item is 24.5cm long and made of brass/bronze. As these figurines are still manufactured and finished by hand, small variations in detail or color, to the pictured object, are normal. Each item will be delivered with a certificate by the Fuhrmann workshop. The certificate will be signed and numbered and guarantees you that you received an original Bergmann figurine. About the production of these miniatures- the"Lost Wax Method" The actual material of the object is Brass. I think ... morethese figurines were called"Vienna Bronze" because Brass was not that well known as Bronze. Achieving such a high level of detail on a rather small figurine requires a very complex and time intensive production process: Usually it starts with a rubber mould. Liquid Brass would destory the rubber and for this reason the figurine is in the first step casted out of wax. The wax figurine is used to prepare a negative made of some kind of plaster or clay: In a very special technique one or more wax figurines get placed inside a container. All that is covered with plaster or clay. The mould is dried and fired. This way the clay is getting hard while the wax is melting. A hollow space is created- the negative. This negative gets filled with liquid Brass. When the Brass is cooled down. It gets hard. The plaster around the brass core can be broken off and the figurines made of Brass are the desired result. The natural shrinkage on cooling added to the permanency of the color as it set the paint firmly into the metal. The Rubber Mold. First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. These molds are the only components that are ever re-used in the casting process. All other components are re-created for each casting. The Wax Positive. Once the molds are done. The Tip Tray is one of the finest examples of it's kind that I have sold featuring a very finely detailed Cold Painted Bronze Flamigo and a beautiful Carved Onyx Stone Bowl. The Flamingo is nicely Cold Painted and though I could find no markings I am sure is from Vienna. The Vide Poche is in very fine condition. The Flamingo shows some nice wear from age and a nice dark patina. If you look on the underside you will see that the figure was reattached at some point in the past but is now nice and solid. The Tip Tray is a great size for holding Change, Keys, Cuff links etc measuring 6-3/4" long and sitting 4-1/2" tall with the Bowl section measuring 3-3/4" wide. Here Artist original clay sculpture is nearly ready for the foundry. Note the artist is still adding the finishing touches. Most sculptors prefer to work with clay or wax; some however. Do use wood and other mediums. Here the finished original clay is now complete. The sculptor will take it to the foundry now, get a bid then begin the first stages of the lost wax process. The first step can be shocking for some as they begin to decide how this original will be cut up. In order to prepare the original clay sculpture for molding. A small bronze first place winner's medal or plaque for a race(probably a relay) across the city of Vienna in 1926. I would say that it was in very fine(VF) condition or better. There is a mark on the reverse which has probably been caused by the removal of a sticky label; this could almost certainly be cleaned off. Please take a good look at my photos and form your own opinion of its condition. Made from Bronze. Dimensions 40 mm x 29 mm, Weight 15.18 grams. The obverse shows a pair of runners passing a baton. In the background are three famous Vienna landmarks: from left to right Schönbrunn Palace. Antique Austrian Vienna Bronze Large Rearing Fighting Stallion Horse Figurine This is a wonderful vintage Austria or Vienna bronze of a spirited rearing bay Thoroughbred type horse figure. This is a very exciting and unusual pose for a bronze horse. With ears pinned back, an open mouth showing teeth, rearing up and striking out. The tail is sweeping out to the side, and the horse rests on the tail to balance. It is quite large. And stands 5 1/2 inches tall and 7 inches wide, and weighs 1 lb. 11 ozs. It is stamped on the belly twice with Austria. And may have another marking I can't identify. The cold painting is very nice, pink inside the nostrils, and even individual teeth are painted! Late 1700's to early 1800's Mounted Porcelain Urn with Bronze/Brass Base. One lid need some work. Little top nob handle got broken and the bronze rim need to re-glued.
