Thank you for your interest in our auction of an ANTIQUE BLUE DECORATED. HANDLED, STONEWARE CROCK BY F. H. COWDEN OF HARRISBURG, PA. VINTAGE 1881-1888. This is a used item, that has been in my family from the beginning, in the 1880s, passed down from my great grandmother. It is still in fine condition. There are no cracks any where on it. There are two points on the bottom of the crock that my be chips out of it, or it may be that they were manufacturing flaws, but in any case, as can be seen in our photos, they are insignificant faults, and would have no effect on the use of the crock. What's more, they are on the bottom of the crock, where they wouldn't even be seen in normal usage. The crock is glazed both outside and inside, and there doesn't seem to be any crazing any where on the crock, inside or outside, that I have seen. ... moreFrom research that I have recently done on this crock, I have been happily surprised to learn that this piece representing the stoneware produced by the Cowden family of Harrisburg, PA, the capital city of Pennsylvania, is or was among the most highly collected stoneware in the nation. I am under the impression that the blue decoration and the salt glaze used by these producers was something new and important to the production of stoneware. This crock measures approximately 9-1/2 inches high, 9-1/4 inches across the top, 10 inches across the widest part and 7 inches across the base. Antique 1 Gallon Stoneware Gray Colored Crock With Cobalt Blue Feather Design
Up for bids is a one gallon antique gray colored stoneware crock with a cobalt blue feather pattern as pictured. The crock is probably native to here in southwestern Pennsylvania where many famous potters made their crocks and jugs with this color clay and blue designs in the mid 1800's. The crock stands 10 1/4" high and measures 6 1/4" wide across the top rim and 6 3/4" wide across the bottom. If your looking at the crock from the front where the number one is there is one chip on the top left side. One chip on the bottom edge on the right side and a tight 4" long hairline crack on the back side as seen in the pictures. Otherwise the crock is in very nice solid condition. Being sold as pictured and described so please ask any questions that you may have before you place a bid.

Vintage Large Stoneware Butter Milk Churn, Primitive Crock with Lid
Hello your looking at a vintage butter churn with lid. It"s in l good condition. But does have some condition issues on the inside of churn. I have noted any obvious flaws, but can't note every single little ding and detail. There are no maker marks on this churn. This stoneware butter or milk churn with what appears to be a salt glaze. It measures about 12 1/2' inches high to the top of the rim. With a diameter of about 8- 9 inches at the widest part. The rim diameter is about 7 inches outside to outside.The lid is intact. This churn weighs about 15 pounds. The inside of churn has a couple of spots to the stoneware where there are flaws or surface scrapes/shallow chips. These appear to have occurred in manufacture. This is a nice vintage BeanPot from WestBend. It is from the 1960's. It has the Beanpot. Lid, Electric base and cord. There are no chips or cracks. The cord is in good shape. The electric base is in good shape with some signs of use(see pics) I plugged it in and it still works. In the bottom of bean pot there is some discoloration on the bottom(from use) as shown in photo's. The measurements are 8 1/2 inches tall, that is the base unit and to the lid of beanpot. Is this genuine antique 19thc Stoneware Jug covered with a deep dark layer of Albany Brown Slip Glaze and fitted with a Pour Lip Spout for your liquid refreshment, did anyone say Moonshine? This is an American pottery piece manufactured in the post 1850 time frame for utilitarian use but now elevated into a country collectible with much charm from yesteryear just for you! Stoneware Jug stands 10" tall and measures 7 7/8" across the base diameter formed in a slight gumdrop shape with well formed loop strap handle flowing right into a pointed pour lip spout neck fitted with an old cork that moves in and out freely at will. Slight lighter brown kiss mark haze near bottom due to uneven firing in the making. Lemon Curd, or perhaps Clotted Cream, Dear Collectors, this is a genuine 19th c antique English lustre glazed Preserve Stoneware Crock Jar peculiar to those made across the big pond for food preservation of yesteryear in the British Isles. Every respectable farmstead would sport several in the kitchen and buttery/pantry for daily use and storage of preserved foodstuffs well before the days of modern refrigeration made these charming sturdy stoneware vessels outmoded and relegated to collector status. Quite similar to American Albany slip brown glaze. The exterior of crock is covered lavishly in pearl brown lustre wash glaze giving it a soft lustre reflective pearl shine with life that dances off the surface at all angles. It features twin lug handles at upper side to aid gripping crock during cooking ... morewith a decorative stamped incised single beaded ring running around the upper middle kissing lower handle extensions. It has a most gentle chamfered base bevel, then the bottom is simply unglazed stoneware clay patina. A thick well formed rim likely once had a lid no longer present, but no matter, clean sage gray green glazed interior is happy to hold your wooden spoons and kitchen utensils in period style. Overall it has a tall, slight flared upright shape like a fine pail with great dignity and usefulness to industrious housekeeper.remember Mrs. Bridges from Upstairs, Downstairs? Hudson would approve and no doubt Downton Abbey has a few on display as well. It stands 6.25" tall and 5.75" across open top. I would guestimate, holds about a quart liquid capacity overall. this is a rare antique handmade stoneware pottery crock from mid to late 1800's it is completely made by hand out of thick. Heavy stoneware with extremely thick walls. it has and exquisite salt glaze finish. With beautifully painted cobalt stylized figural detailing. it has a dual handle and a large mouth. It is near museum quality, not one chip on the whole crock, which is EXTREMELY RARE any imperfections on the crock were done in the creation process. It is approximately 11 3/4 inches high and is about 11 1/2 inches across in diameter. Stamped at the top with: A. K. Ballard. Burlington, VT. Alfred K. Ballard used this maker's mark between 1867 and 1874. It also has the number 4 stamped on the front, just under the maker's mark, indicating the 4 gallon size. The inside has a cream colored glazed ceramic and a spout on one side. It looks like it had a lid at one time. it it approx. 8 1/4" in height. 2 1/2" diamateracross the opening and 6 1/4" across the bottom. Hello I have for sale a Rowe Pottery salt glazed crock- jug in excellent condition with no chips- cracks or stains. This crock stands 5 1/4" tall and is 3 1/2" across at it's widest point. It is decorated with a large. Dark cobalt blue flower on the front and is marked with an incised stamp which reads HANDMADE ROWE POTTERY WORKS CAMBRIDGE WI. 1985 or 86( this date is hard to read) There is also a potters mark which is shown in pic. 6. This is a nice heavy little jug for it's size. Thank you.
