This old Stoneware Hayner Whiskey Jug has been sitting in my father’s basement for at least the last 55+ years and was covered in dust and as you can see by the pictures it has not been cleaned. Other than the dirt the jug is in great condition with no cracks. Chips or repairs. It measures about 11 inches tall and is 6 5/8 inches in diameter at the base. The front reads HAYNER LOCKBOX 290 DAYTON OHIO and it has ES&B in raised letters on the bottom. 1920 brought in the beginning of Prohibition and the end of the Hayner Distilling Company and their Mail Order Whiskey business. In the 1700's the Germans were exporting many waterproof glazed drinking vessels into England produced by a secret process. The process of adding salt into the kiln during the firing process was revealed. It gave the pottery a hard brown waterproof glaze in one firing and was appropriately called“Salt-Glazed” pottery. This listing is for a n Antique( Oil and Vinegar“Salt Glazed” Cruet set stamp ed with“Made in England By Pearson’s of Chesterfield Established 1810” Pearson’s Pottery was located near Chesterfield township in England along with 9 other potteries due to the availability of water. Clay and coal in the early 1800s. Pearson’s Pottery was started by James Pearson officially in 1810. They specialized in Brown Salt Glazed Stoneware Sprigged Jugs. More modern methods were developed and with their natural resources exhausted, production ... morein Chesterfield ended in the mid-1900s. Each of the cruets in this set stands 6” high and about 3” wide. They weigh in at over 1 pound each. The easiest way to describe their composition is to compare them to an old fashion salt glazed brown vintage crocks that you find in Antique Stores. This glazing process has not been used for decades and what you find is very old and getting harder to uncover. I used a flashlight and inspected the interior of both cruets and found no stains or residue from being used. These sprig jugs are highly glazed inside, even more so than on the outside. Both have a pinched pouring spout and can be used without taking out the cork stopper. Both are in mint condition without a chip, crack or even a scratch. They have never been used and may be considered in(near) new condition. However, since we know the company‘s history, they must be quite older and even Antique(100 + years old) than their wonderful condition indicates. I purchased this pair for a reasonable price at an estate sale and will pass along my good fortune by offering them for auction at a low minimum bid amount without a reserve. this is an exquisite very obscure vintage handmade stoneware pottery tea kettle pot. it has a beautiful salt glaze with a glossy grey and brown color. the spout is very rare and in the shape of a rams head. The contents of the kettle would pour out of his mouth, his eyes are cut out and has gorgeous curved horns. it also has a gorgeous full body ram finial on the lid. And a brown half circle handle. it is heavy and made with very thick material. it can be used. Monmouth Pottery Bean Pot Spongeware Crock. This is a 1 1/2 quart spongeware bean pot crock that is marked with a maple leaf and across the leaf it reads“Monmouth USA” The glaze color is taupe with a rust colored splatter or sponge design. The lidded crock measures 5 1/2” tall and 6 3/4” mouth opening. 8 1/4” across the handles. The lid and pot has some crazing but the crock is clean inside and out with no cracks or chips. Western Stoneware Tan & Navy Bean Pot Crock- Monmouth
This is a big heavy sturdy bean pot or crock from Western Stoneware Company. It is a tan natural unglazed pottery on outside and it has a rough feel to it. It is porous because it is unglazed so it will show signs of staining. This one doesn't have much staining but you can see in the photo if the bottom it is hard to get off. Interior is glazed and a dark navy or cobalt and looks good. Lid underneath rim has a small chip out of it as shown in picture. Chip barely shows when lid is on pot.Bottom of pot base ring is bumpy and has a couple of tiny chips( i think) but they feel smoothed down. Pot with lid measures about 8" tall and width at handles is about 9" It is a very fun pot that has a lot of use left in it. Priced to sell. Loc 18 top
