The jug is empty, except there is a cork inside, which I don't think will ever come out. I say there are no chips or cracks. Please view the pictures carefully, and read the rest of this description. There is a mark on the top brown part. Seen in the last photo. I think it was part of the original manufacturing process. It does not look like a chip, but is discolored and dented a bit. Decent shape. One hairline crack on the outside. Which can be seen on the inside. Two more very thin hairline cracks on the inside in the same area of the hairline that goes all the way through. Rust to the wire as seen in the pictures. Wear to the black paint on the wood handles. One of the wood handles is chipped. Some crazing to the pottery in the area where the handles attach. This crock was mistakenly double stamp in manufacturing and could very possibly be the only one of its kind? RARE Antique Stoneware Crock Weyman's Snuff Jar 1866 With Lid
Weyman's Snuff Jar. This snuff jar is just a little over 9 inches high and about 6 inches in diameter. This was purchased at an estate auction so I do not know if tin lid is original to jar. Only flaws are small chips around opening of jar. This jar has no cracks and overall is in very good condition. The mark on bottom of jar seems to be a normal mark from the jar being made. 1800s Gray Saltglazed Stoneware Canning Crock - AS IS but grt colors & usable
This is a salt-glazed crock from the first half of the 1800s and more than likely made down around the Carolinas as this is where that old gray clay was most prevalent. It is a canning crock designed with the ridge where they put the hot sealing wax and then pressed a metal piece or fabrics into that to seal it and keep out bugs. It has that wonderful leathery texture that the glazes assumed in the firing when salt was thrown on them to create that lustre and to seal the finish. This one is 9" tall. 5 1/2" across the bottom and 4 1/2" across the top, rim to rim. The colors on this are wonderful as it is not a solid gray but one side during the firing for some reason shaded into golden brown hues- these early pieces sometimes did this and in my opinion it's like a piece of art. The rim on this is about 1/2" and is decorated ... morewith 3 incised rings around the outside. Then about 1 1/2 down the side there is another plain incised ring circling the crock. FLAWS: The poor old thing is not perfect and has suffered trauma. There are 3 cracks. Each equidistant from the other and each beginning on this thick rim and going down the side. One goes at an angle and around the side(and this one has a chip along the crack just below the rim where it starts- you can see it in the pics) and meets the other crack which goes all the way to the base but NOT into the bottom. Then there is a third which starts and goes down about 4" The saving grace is that they are all tight but I wouldn't put anything in it like wooden spoons which might stress these with pressure. My last 3 pictures show the cracks I have described and my next to last picture with the 3 fingers pointing to the top of each crack and my 2 fingers in the last one point to the distance between the two which converge. ALL THAT BEING SAID, it is a great piece to use for dried flowers or simply to display up on a shelf or cabinet to add'that look' that is so hard to get with newer items which just don't h

This vintage 2 quart West Bend stoneware crock features a brown and yellow wooden fork and black measuring spoons on a white/eggshell stoneware background. The crock has a 7" diameter and is 5" tall not including the lid. The West Bend name and USA appear on the bottom. The crock comes with the original 8" Heat-Rite hot plate and plug. The crock and lid are in good to very good used condition with no cracks. Chips, or crazing. The hot plate and cord are in also in good condition, but the hot plate does have some wear to the bottom as can be seen in the photo. The hot plate does heat up. Here is a beautiful old water cooler from the late 1800s.doesn't look like it was ever used. It's about 5 gallons with a rich Albany type glaze inside and the upper outside. These were used in saloons. Bars, pubs, hotels and warehouses to hold the refreshment of choice. It is 18" tall.8 1/2" on the base and 38 1/2" around the ovoid middle. I bought it awhile back and was going to get an artist to paint a big red rooster on it and label it red roost rye.as a decorative piece.just didn't happen. The old wooden spigot didn't come with it but I'll throw that in as well. It weighs almost 22 lbs. unboxed so you can figure 25 lbs to your zip from 23851.for postage. This is the mark of Alexander Donaghho, who operated a pottery in West Virginia, 1874-1900. The inner rim has some general wear and a small chip; also a minor flake in the glaze(lower front) otherwise mint. No hairlines, cracks, repaired damage or restoration work. Nice old butter crock with blue stenciled lettering- stands 4 1/2" tall and about 7 1/2" across. I do not know who the manufacturer would be. Crock is shiny inside and out with no chips; however. There are two hairline cracks on opposite sides which are visible inside and out. On the outside the cracks are only 1 1/2" long; however, on the inside the cracks extend for about 3" See the last four photos. They supplied food to the Antarctic expeditions led by Shackleton and Scott and were one of the principal suppliers of canned food to the military during World War I. All of these types of stone jars were made of high temperate high temperature fired earthenware. Double dipped(prior to firing) in a honey brown Albany slip glaze to give them the two tone coloration and create a watertight clay body. The style is often known as a brown top primitive by collectors because the label is simply an impressed stamp indicating the maker's name and town. These date from the 1830s to the 1880s after which a style with black printed labels began replacing the"primitives" That's the small circular stamp on the side that says"REG'D March 1849 POWELL BRISTOL" and a#2 or 3 on the opposite shoulder of the cicular stamp capacity mark. Presumably it means 2 gallons? The year 1849 was not the year of manufacture, just the year that that particular shape of jar was copyrighted by Powell. The jar itself dates to the 1870- 1880s. Antique Cobalt Blue Decorated Stoneware Crock: J. Fisher, Lyons NY dragonfly
For your consideration. We offer this 3 gallon, 19th Century stoneware crock in very good, well preserved condition. Stamped near the top is"J. Fisher, Lyons, NY" along with a large number"3" which was hand applied in cobalt blue. This piece dates somewhere within the last quarter of 19th Century and has a cobalt slip-trailed dragonfly decoration below the signature. The clay used to make this jug was rich in iron which is why it has an earthy, orange coloring. There's very minor glaze wear around the inside of the opening rim along with a few flecks/tiny chips, the interior of the crock looks virtually mint. On the exterior, there's an old, thin, darkened hairline that's between 1/4" and 1/2" from the bottom and travels almost halfway around the crock. It's tight and doesn't appear to go ... moreall the way through to the interior walls. Also, there's a very faint line to the right of the dragonfly that you can barely make out in photo number 8. Again, we checked the interior with a bright light and don't see it. We do our best to disclose flaws and provide detailed information. All our items are returnable within two weeks, no reason needed anyway but these hairlines are not structural threats. There's no chips or chunks missing out of the bottom rim and no pits on the sides. As the pictures show, it's a handsome old crock that displays very well. This is a great old primitive crock. Purchased at an antique auction in Lancaster PA. Earthy clay piece which is handpainted with sunflowers and sage green trim along mouth. Measures approx 5.75" high with a base of 4 5/8" across, and mouth opening"hole part" of 2.75" There is no lid. We believe this to be from the 1800s. The painted sunflowers are likely a later addition. Wire bale handle with turned wood painted sage or avocado green. Some chipping to the paint and crazing on the glaze. I see 2 hairline cracks which I can't feel as they are under the glaze. Beautiful primitive piece would be a great planter. Early American REDWARE Stoneware Ovoid CROCK Jar Incised BEST Glaze RARE Handled
Lg. Early ANTIQUE REDWARE Stoneware OVOID CROCK Jar Jug Incised- RARE Handles This listing is for an early antique stoneware redware ovoid shape handled crock or storage jar with primitive. Out of round form. The handles on this crock are very unusual and rare. They look to be formed or pulled from the piece. Rather than applied as is commonly seen. The crock is indented, creating a recess behind each handle that allows for carrying. The handles are joined to the main body of the crock on each end. They have an arched shape that makes them easy and comfortable to hold on to. It seems to be an ingenious design. Yet I have not seen this type of handle before. And cannot find another example in any of the American stoneware pottery books. This utilitarian crock or jar was given some beautiful decorative touches with both incised and raised banding ... morearound the body of the piece. At the mouth. There is a rolled rim with two incised bands beneath. In the middle, at handle height, the crock has four raised bands that encircle it at the widest point. The glaze on this jar is stunning. With a wide range of color. There are shapes formed by the glaze that look almost like letters, perhaps a mark of some sort? Or maybe just a happy accident. I believe this piece is quite old. Dating to the early to mid 19 th century. Possibly even the late 18 th century. Though I don’t know the exact age. It measures approx. 12” tall and 12” across the widest point. The mouth is approx. 8-8 ½” across and the base measures 6 ¼” in diameter. The handles are approx. 3 ¼” long x ½” thick. The jar is in very good antique condition. It has appropriate wear for a utilitarian pottery piece of this age. The piece has no cracks or other structural damage. The lip of the crock shows a fair amount of age related wear. Most of the wear is superficial only. With a number of areas where the glaze has flaked or chipped off, but there are just a couple of shallow surface chips as well(please see pictures.
