Lg. Early ANTIQUE REDWARE Stoneware OVOID CROCK Jar Jug Incised- RARE Handles This listing is for an early antique stoneware redware ovoid shape handled crock or storage jar with primitive. Out of round form. The handles on this crock are very unusual and rare. They look to be formed or pulled from the piece. Rather than applied as is commonly seen. The crock is indented, creating a recess behind each handle that allows for carrying. The handles are joined to the main body of the crock on each end. They have an arched shape that makes them easy and comfortable to hold on to. It seems to be an ingenious design. Yet I have not seen this type of handle before. And cannot find another example in any of the American stoneware pottery books. This utilitarian crock or jar was given some beautiful decorative touches with both incised and raised banding ... morearound the body of the piece. At the mouth. There is a rolled rim with two incised bands beneath. In the middle, at handle height, the crock has four raised bands that encircle it at the widest point. The glaze on this jar is stunning. With a wide range of color. There are shapes formed by the glaze that look almost like letters, perhaps a mark of some sort? Or maybe just a happy accident. I believe this piece is quite old. Dating to the early to mid 19 th century. Possibly even the late 18 th century. Though I don’t know the exact age. It measures approx. 12” tall and 12” across the widest point. The mouth is approx. 8-8 ½” across and the base measures 6 ¼” in diameter. The handles are approx. 3 ¼” long x ½” thick. The jar is in very good antique condition. It has appropriate wear for a utilitarian pottery piece of this age. The piece has no cracks or other structural damage. The lip of the crock shows a fair amount of age related wear. Most of the wear is superficial only. With a number of areas where the glaze has flaked or chipped off, but there are just a couple of shallow surface chips as well(please see pictures. RARE VINTAGE - FRENCH STONEWARE CROCK POT - HERBS FROM PROVENCE ( PARIS FRANCE )
This auction is for a beautiful vintage crock pot. It is in wonderful condition and only has one tiny chip on the entire pot. The tiny chip is not very noticeable at all since it is right next to the paper label on the crock pot top. There is some discoloration and staining on the pot but no other chips. At first glance I thought the lid handle was missing part of it but in fact it was hand cut that way on both sides making it easier to grab the handle. You can see the knife smear in the clay where it was cut when the clay was originally soft! The paper label on the top is in wonderful condition and complete and sound. The paper label appears to be written in 4 different languages. On the outside edge of the paper label it reads“ S.A. AUX ANYSETIERS DU ROY. 61, RUE DAMREMOUNT 75018 PARIS RANCE” On one side of the crock is hand written“Herbs ... moreof Provence Nt WT 11 OZS” On the other side is hand written“Aux Anysetiers du Roy” This is an amazing piece and in spectacular condition. This is a fabulous Ice Tea. Lemonade, Kool Aid, crock! Itis made by the Gold Medal Products Company as you can see is stamped on the front of the crock. It has the original spout which DOES NOT leak as I have used it for ice tea and has sat on my counter without leaking for several days at a time. It has the crock lid which has a couple of chips on the underneath side so is not noticeable at all from the top. See photos. Saltglazed stoneware crock. Mint condition, 6 1/2 inches tall and 8 5/8 inches across at top. Perfect shape with very detailed molded detail under the lip. Two tone color, top is brown gold and rest is white. Large block letters spelling out LIPTON on front under salt glaze in black letters which I am pretty sure are transfer printed on. Handles are nicely molded. On the side under one of the handles is the impressed mark 8 lb and below that is an impressed oval with the words Port Dundas Pottery Glasgow. Is this gorgeous Blue and White Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid in the Daisy and Waffle Pattern. This beauty features a Trellis Background that Hosts Four Daisies under a Swirl Border. The lid repeats the trellis background. The designation"large" is warranted because this piece is larger than any piece in this pattern that I have ever had to sell- 5 1/4" tall and 7 1/4" wide! It is 7 and 1/2" high,about 9" across from spout to outer handle,base is about 5 and 1/2" across. Bottom has dry,unglazed outer foot.The handle is arched as shown,and this is a very heavy and sturdy pitcher.It is not maker marked,could be Red Wing,McCoy,RRPC,Brush or any number of other potteries in business in the early 1900's.The details from the mold are crisp,and show barrel style staves and ribs,handle is detailed with hand-carved"bark" lines incised. This is a great old classic bean cooking crock by Marcrest in the Daisy Dot pattern. It's Ovenproof stoneware and would be great to cook a pot of boston baked beans in. During the cooler days to come this fall. It's glazed in a rich glossy brown glaze. Marked on the bottom, it says MarCrest Oven Proof Stoneware U.S.A. Additional information: I was just told today. By someone involved with the Marcrest company in a friendly email that this is not the original lid that came with the pot. It fits, but does not have the daisy dot pattern, so it is not authentic to this pot, which was made mid 1950 to 1960's. That's the way I bought it at an estate sale, and it will work, but it's not the original lid. Thanks to the helpful person who set me straight on this nice big pot. Wm P. Hartly's Stoneware Drip Crock(The true color of this piece is the color in pictures 1.2& 3. I used different lighting in the last 3 pictures and it is not accurate. This circa 1900 stoneware crock was used to hold many thing. Especially grease drippings. This piece is stamped on the bottom"Not Geniune Unless BEARING Wm P Harley's LABEL" Below this is a marking that looks like a M with a backward F on the left side and a regular F on the right. This piece is in good condition with the usual amount of wear. There is a very tiny chip or pit on the top edge. There are a few tiny chips on the bottom rim that cannot be seen until you turn it over. There is minor discoloration in a few places. There are blobs on the surface of the piece(can be seen in 2nd and 3rd picture) that I don't consider damage since they were ... morepart of the original piece. Up for bid is a very nice R ed Wing 4 gallon salt glaze hand turned leaf design butter churn stoneware crock. The croc k is in good cond ition. Ther e is a very thin hairline in the back o f the crock. Outside. And inside, 11" long( see picture) It seems that there wa s a repair to it( see picture) Also a couple of small chip s on the inside rim. And one very small c hip on the bottom rim in the front. Even with t hat said. The c rock is bea utiful. The l ea f design. And the gallonage nu mber are ver y vi brant( see picture) the very thin hairline doe s not distract from the beauty of this churn, this crock will be a wonderful a dd ition to any stoneware collection. And a chip on the left han dle( see picture) No other chip s. Or cracks, the crock has the ski oval, but is ha rd to see. Du e to the faint ink. I have take a picture of a 2 gallon s ki oval marking. And put it next to the butter churn marking. So you can see the faint ski oval on the butter churn( see picture) Other than the chip. There is a lid with the c hurn. D o not think i t is a Red W ing. However, i t fits the crock nicely. And really look goo d on the crock( see picture) The lid has the marking 5- 6 on the ... moretop, the crock is beautiful.
