Huge Vtg Marble PIETRA DURA Platter w/ Inlaid Semi-Precious Stones 15" Diameter
This is a stunning alabaster marble platter or tray. Inlaid with different types of hardstone in the"Pietra Dura" style. It could be Middle Eastern in origin, or it may be Italian. I purchased it at an auction, so have no history on the piece. It definitely has some age to it. When I got it, it had a totally moth-eaten felt backing glued to the underside which I immediately removed. It is in generally good condition, no missing inlay, but it has a good size chip on the rim. The chip has been polished out and is now fairly smooth. Perhaps it could be filled? When I put the platter in the plate stand, the chip lined up perfectly with the arm on the stand and was fully camouflaged. The inlay work is of superior quality. There is hardly a seam between the stones. The pattern is bright and colorful against the white background, the design ... morereally pops. The platter measures 15-1/2" in diameter. Heavy. The George west patent In 1872 the useful items called solitaires(spring studs) ... morewere first patented by George West as'Fasteners for Collars and Cuffs' The variation and design in the mechanism was tremendous. Even with the fixed studs(which did not come apart) There were several ingenious designs to make their use easier for the wearer. Some had oval shanks, some were crescent shaped and some had double oval shanks. There were also types with hanging bars which opened to pass through the stiff shirt materials and then snapped shut; plus many more were available at the time. However, it was the solitaires(later known as bachelor's buttons) that were the most successful. Although they were made by various firms the greatest and most prolific manufacturer was George West. The design was excellent and examples remain in working condition today(as above) The principle of the mechanism is of two winged projections which, when depressed, release their hold on a central shank so that the back and front are completely separate and can be easily put through various thickness of shirt and collar before being snapped firmly together. Solitaires were made in a wide variety of materials such as gold, silver, mother of pearl, glass(painted, moulded and cut)

No Reserve! This is a beautiful vintage five-panel micro-mosaic bracelet made in Italy. Each panel features a center floral design flanked by fans. The work is incredibly tiny and intricate. Just wonderful! The bracelet measures 8" long and each panel is just over 1/2" wide. The bracelet has an old-fashioned loop clasp. There is some wear to the silver finish on the underside. Size and Measurements: The necklace is a 14k Yellow Gold heavy duty rope necklace and measures 18 inches in length. The pendant measures 1 and 3/4 inches long by 1 and 1/4 inches wide. Earrings, and ring. Jo Michels was a modernist jeweler in the 40's-50's. She owned a shop in Greenwich Village. The brooch measures 2 ¼ by 1 ¾ inches. The marching earrings are ¾ inch in diameter. The earrings are screw-back. The diameter of the matching ring is 7/8 inches. The ring size is very large and will likely need to be sized. Each piece has a black onyx background set in a sterling silver setting with braided sterling silver around the frame. There are multi-colored flowers with green leaves. This is an unusual and very lovely pendant. I do not know its history. So can only tell you what I think. The original pietra dura pendant was set in a plain silver bezel. The blue pearls were added later, as was the large baroque pearl drop. The work is excellent with exceptional detail. There have been some repairs to the pietra dura. I believe the flower is supposed to represent a poppy flower but i am not certain. It is a lovely little box in very nice condition. These are typically attributed to the middle of the 20th century.

The plaque depicts two birds and their nest on a flowering branch. The birds are very nicely and realistically rendered. With bright eyes and beautiful feather patterns which are actually natural variations in color in the stones. The branch on which the nest is set has pink-tinged white trumpet flowers of some variety, as well as vines, leaves and blue berries. The background of the plaque is some type of black stone. The underside has strips of green felt applied so the plaque won't scratch surfaces. This piece is in great overall condition. There are two chips to the edge of the plaque. At the lower righthand corner, which would not be visible if the piece ... morewere framed. The lines on the surface of the plaque are not breaks, these are original to the making of the piece, which is by definition assembled from smaller pieces of stone. The piece measures about 7 1/8 by 4 3/4 by 1/2 inches. This piece weighs 716 grams. Good luck and bid with confidence. Small vintage pietra dura plaque depicting a mountain scene and I see it is artist signed. The frame it's in which looks to be original measures 7 1/2 by 8 1/4in. the plaque itself measures 3 by 3 3/4in. and is very nicely done, it looks to be in perfect condition and I do see the artists name on the lower left corner, if you collect pietra dura pieces which seem to becoming harder and harder to find this is a nice one and does show good age.

Vintage RICHARD BLOW ITALIAN MODERNIST PIETRA DURA RARE Surreal 50s ABSTRACT
For auction is a very large pietra dura by Richard blow. The picture itself measures 10 inches x 6 1/4 inches. The frame measures 13 inches x 9 1/4 inches. This was purchased in the 1950s and is in excellent condition. No chips or scratches or crack whatsoever. It is dated 1956 on the reverse and it even has it's original price tag still on the back! I had the wire hanger installed on the reverse on the frame and had the nails that held the pietra dura in the frame removed(the nails were old and some were loose) I had them replaced with archival pins. So now the pietra dura is secure in the frame and the wire hanger is much more efficient for hanging. The installation of the pins and the wire hanger were done by a professional framer. Small Indian stone 'pietra dura' style pot with lovely pierced work
A skillfully-made small trinket pot in green stone with inset coloured inlay in'pietra dura' style. This pot was made in India but its exact age is unknown. It is in excellent. Vintage condition and has no scratching or damage to the beautiful, cool green stone. The edges and rim of the lid have delicate pierced work which forms a delightful tracery, as shown in the images.
