The picture just looks magnificent- the Colors are fantastic and one has to consider the number of Micro size Stones that have been used to make the Picture is impressive. I am not an expert- I have taken a lot of Pictures to help the description. The main black Stone is not set flat on the brooch but is slanted- at the top the Stone is about 2 mm over the Gold metal rim whereas by the bottom of the brooch it is flush with the Gold metal rim. This piece was made in Italy in the 1850s to the 1870s. It is classic Italian pietra dura work with a fine quality 14 kt. gold frame. The bird is designed using several different types of stones. I can identify lapis lazuli. Malachite and two types of banded agate or marble. I do not know what material is used for the light green leaves and red berries and feathers. There is one minor flake to the red feathers. Otherwise condition is very good. The surface has some wear and there is a light white discoloration near the top. This is minor and. I believe, could easily be cleaned up. The hinge, the clasp and the pin back are all original and ... morein perfect condition. This is a beautiful Mid Century Pietra Dura inlaid stone plaque signed Fantechi. Created in Florence. Depicts four beautiful fish(made of several marbles. Malachite and lapis lazuli) swimming through a kelp forest and reef. Notice how brilliantly the artist uses the stone to create the seaweed and capture the expression in the eyes. The pietra dura was applied on top of the slate by the artist which give a 3-D fish tank effect. Overall excellent vintage condition. Frame measures 8 inches by 5.5 inches. Substantial piece.

Description This vintage circa 1930-50's Agra Indian pietra dura alabaster dish. Is quite large and hand turned in white alabaster marble with shaped turned moulding to the edge. It is finely inlaid in hardstones with a floral design, the flower heads are each formed from several separate sections of mother of pearl, all with tight fitting joins. I thought it initially to be a frame for a carte de visite photo, dates 1850-70) but the aperture is slightly larger so if that were the case, it would have needed a mat. There is some evidence a replacement backing has been made for this beautiful old frame. The old original probably had an easel stand, but these are very heavy frames. LARGE ANTIQUE ITALIAN PIETRA DURA PICTURE FRAME PLAQUE 15" X 10 5/8" 19THC RARE
This is a fantastic antique 19th century Italian inlaid pietra dura picture frame plaque. It is quite large and heavy. Measuring 15" by 10 5/8" and about 3/8" thick. It weighs 5.6 pounds. The piece is beautifully inlaid with two roses of different colors, a red poppy, and a fine of blue morning glories. all in different types of natural stone. The background is a black slate. This piece was intended to be framed, with this portion acting as the matting. There is a beveled edge opening for a photograph which measures 7" by 4 3/4" from the back. You could also use a mirror instead if desired. There are spots of dirt or white/gray discolorations on the surface of the slate from age, but I believe a good cleaning and coat of wax would clear these up. Gorgeous"Vasca" in Africano marble A beautiful miniature of a Roman bath, made with a rare in Latin"Marmor Luculleum" a rare stone imported by the ancient Roman from the quarry in the city of Teos. Near Smirne, Turkey. This marble as been reused over time and is found in many churches and palazzi in Rome well as in the Foro and many ancient buildings such the Pantheon.
