I recently acquired it from one of the remaining Sours family members in South Florida. I currently have several that where mostly sent to Effie McKinlay Kantor during the turn of the last century and to Mary Virginia Kantor(Sours) in the same period until the 1930's. These two women were the mother and sister of the famous American author, MacKinlay Kantor, who, among his many literary works and achievements, won the Pulitzer Price for the book, Andersonville. Some of the postcards are from Mackinlay(Mack) Kantor to various family members and/or from his wife. Irene, and/or from both. Since both Mackanlay and his wife have distinctive handwriting, it is easy to discern ... moreboth and very easy to see the authenticity of all examples we are offering. Very Fine 19Th Century Tahan Paris French Gilt Bronze Jewelry Box
This is a very fine 19th-century Tahan Paris French gilt bronze jewelry box. It is signed just above the key on the rim. It has a few problems. First the velvet on the top has dried out. Also there was probably velvet on the inside of the box itself which is gone as are most of the tiny nails that held it in. The key turns but it does not lock the box. And last it has no bottom. I don't know where the bottom is. it's a mystery to me! Now for it's wonderful positive attributes. It is decorated with heavy gilt and lovely foliage. There is ornate work everywhere. The patina is stunning. It measures 7 1/4 inches across or 18.42 cm by 5 inches deep or 12.7 cm and 4 1/2 inches tall or 11.43 cm. It weighs 1 lb. 5 oz. or 595 g. Beautiful french perfume bottle with original paper tag and stopper. It has a 1/2 cent stamp and a 1/8 cent stamp on the back both say United Revenue United States and series of 1898 Documentary. The stamps and paper tags are all intact and in wonderful condition their color is not faded. The bottle and stopper have no cracks or chips. Antique figural perfume bottle in the shape of happy buddha c.1918. The perfume was inspired by the very famous Chu Chin Chow musical comedy with pantomime by Oscar Asche during this period- written. Produced and directed by him. The basis of the story was taken from Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves with embellishments of course. The musical premièred at His Majesty's Theatre in London in 1916 with over 2,000 performances in the next five years, which was an astonishing record that stood for almost the next forty years- it was also one of three hit musicals that are most associated with the London Stage during World War I. The show's first American debut was in New York City with additional lyrics written by Arthur Anderson, performances were in 1917–1918. WW1 Era Megaphos Stereo Prism Binoculars. Paris
8 power stereo prism binoculars by Megaphos of Paris. From what I could find online. These were made from the early 1900's up to the end of WW1. The leather covering is badly worn and missing in some places. It looks like the construction is a mixture of brass and steel. The eyepieces I believe are wood. Everything is tight on them. All moving parts move freely and smoothly. I don't see any fogging on the lenses. It has a leather strap thats obviously old. But I don't know if it's original. These items come from groups found at auctions and estate sales. And may require some cleaning. I have no way of determining if they've been exposed to pets and/or tobacco. Items are stored in containers outside my home to prevent any cooking or pet odors from reaching them. Things exposed to pets, cooking or tobacco before I receive ... morethem I have no control over. However it is approx. 100 years old& does have a little wear to the finish& two hairline slits in the Tortoise Shell pick guard, but is repair free with very little fret wear.
