The bottom is o.k. but speaking to a refinishing expert a very easy fix since it is thick the shellac it would be sanded down and another coat put on. the color is way off due to my digital camera that changes color on auto. the white is more of a light cream. This is a true demilune table with both the front and back profiles curved. The table top features a large, center inlay medallion of flowers and acanthus leaves with a smaller floral accent on each end. The top features a rosewood, with a gorgeous grain, inset in the mahogany. The top is skirted around the entire perimeter. The skirted section features detailed floral carvings on both the front and back profiled(the concave side as well as the convex side) The cabriole legs have carved acanthus accents at the mid sections as well as the feet. Antique Sailor Nautical Marquetry Wood Box Tramp Art Sweetheart Primitive Sewing
Offered is a rather amazing and rare marquetry"sweetheart" box. Velma was her name. And her beloved had to have spent hours crafting this box for her. It is most likely sailor made, but I cannot be absolutely sure without a documented history and that information is long gone. The marquetry pattern is done in a very simple wood(pine or fir, perhaps.light/medium weight) nothing fancy or expensive.very primitive. There are no hinges or locks, and never have been from what can be seen. This is a simple"casket" style box, very likely used for documents, money(perhaps saving money for the future? sewing items or trinkets. The size of the box suggests"documents" to me. Her name is front and center on the box, and I can't imagine the hours it took to create the patterns! On the top and sides are 2 different Star ... morepatterns, a favorite in maritime folk art. On the back is a diamond shape with boxes. I love the classic look of this old box! It is very old, but I am uncertain as to exactly what date this was made. The box is solidly made, not wobbly at all though it shows considerable wear and tear on the outside surface. It was used and loved, that is for sure! Such is the case with this very cool& unusual old art deco Japanese Yosegi marquetry plaque/wall pocket. The piece folds flat. When not in use. It folds open to hold letters. Or a whisk broom. Etc. It is beautifully crafted, with precise cuts& wooden pins. I showed this to a Japanese friend of mine& she had never seen one before. Either. Her response was"How cool. and how Japanese in design! It WAS a music box but such a shame. It no longer works. Appears to have been over wound. I see no way to get into the box without damaging it so I don't think it can be repaired. This is a gorgeous jewelry box now. Looks like the type of woodwork usually made in India but the label says Spain. There are a couple thin cracks in the varnish coating on the top. Not bad. Also a small flaw in the varnish towards the edge also on the top. Both shown in pics. It is 4 1/2"H and 5 1/4"W. The inside area is 1 3/4"D and 3 1/4"W. All hand crafted wood mosaic tile. This is a lovely old marquetry card box that opens out to form a cribbage board. It is made from walnut and different coloured woods in a geometric design. The cribbage board is hinged in the middle so that it can fold to form a box to keep the cards in. Inside there is a small compartment at on end with a slid lid for securing the cribbage markers. The inside of the box is unvarnished wood. This is an antique item and will have signs of use but it is in lovely condition. Up for auction is this wonderful ANTIQUE DARNING EGG. It is wooden and marked"GERMANY" The total length is 5 1/2" The handle is 3" I am unable to tell whether it is composed of laminated wood or painted and varnished. There is a small nick(pic.7) that makes me feel that two different woods were used. We bought this piece at a Berks County. PA estate auction. It would make a nice addition to a collection of antique sock darners, or a nice Christmas gift to one who still darns. Please. Email me with any questions.

Remarkable inlaid wooden mug or tankard stein. Hand turned with highly skillful decorative marquetry decoration. A metal insert was carefully fitted.
