This auction is for a 4" x 8" Rookwood Faience pottery tile featuring a left-facing griffin. I also have the paired right-facing griffin in my other auction lots. The tile is in great condition. No major chipping on the front. On the back on the bottom the tile has a chip in the non-glazed section, not visible from the front. Also on the back right there is some chipping, neither is visible from the front and only on close inspection did I notice that the chipping existed. Back of the tile reads"1735Y 2 Rookwood Faience. pottery teapot painted to look like brass with dark blue around the bottom of teapot and on lid the dark blue as a gilt pattern the spout and handle are painted and shaped to look like brass and the handle is in the design of a griffin there is fading to the gilt pattern the teapot also has marks on the paint there is crazing inside the pot. A chip to the lid and 2 hairline cracks to the bottom the inside is also stained i have not tried to clean the teapot, which we found in our loft with all its faults it is still very attractive not sure of the age but definitely vintage if not antique( my view.
