19th C Italy Grand Tour Piglet Carved Serpentine Marble Statue Wild Boar Italian
This auction features a rare late 19th century(Grand Tour) Italian serpentine marble figurine of a wild boar. Known as'Il Porcellino' or Italian piglet. This piece is based off of an original carved marble figure by a Greek sculptor during the centuries BC. In the 17th century the Italians produced a copy of the boar in marble. Now in the Uffizi Museum in Florence. There are many examples of this image such as the bronze fountain sculptored by Pietro Tacca in Florence. The verde Prato serpentine marble has been quarried for centuries near Prato, northwest of Florence in Italy. The serpentine stone is so named due to its resemblance to the skin of a serpent. This material was used to make these copies of the famous boar carving throughout the mid to late 19th century, as high end souvenirs. This particular piece is in very good condition ... morefor its age; there is damage to both ears but this is common due to the fragility of the stone. Many of these sculptures have badly broken feet and/or bases, and aside from my guy's chipped ears he has no major damage whatsoever. There's a few very minor flakes off the edge of the base, but no missing chunks as I have seen in other examples, and all four of his feet are present. The Grand Tour was a trip taken by English men. Particularly in the 18th and 19th centuries, where they would tour destinations that were considered to be culturally important and enriching. The trip usually included stops in France. Italy, and Germany, though the itineraries may vary depending on the wealth of the traveler and the amount of time spent abroad. This piece is not signed in any way. Though it appears likely to be Italian. It is likely a copy of a portrait found in a Roman ruin. We would date this piece to the mid to late 1800's. The piece consists of two pieces of marble that have been attached. At a later date. French Patinated Bronze Athena Clock Minerva Grand Tour Empire Gilt Spear Shield
Circa 1860- Extremely rare French Patinated Bronze Clock depicting Athena holding her Spear and Shield on a Rouge marble base. The clock stands 27.5 inches tall and 12 inches wide at the base. The Spear is removable and finely cast. The 6 inch dial has Roman Numeral cartouches and the detail to the shield is exceptional. Life like scene of Medussa's head with snakes as her hair turning anyone into stone who looks into her eyes. The zodiac calendar symbols are laid out on the outer rim of the shield. There is a Sphinx on the top of Athena's Helmet as well. The clock retains its original French 8 day time and strike movement stamped L Marti& Cie Medaille De Bronze and original hands as well. The Movement& Bezel/Dial are stamped 47 55 which means they are original to the case. The movement can be accessed from the rear of the ... moreclock. The original door is bronze as well and was cut from the original statue to fit back in place. These types of clocks were placed on fireplace mantels with a large mirror on top of the mantel. VINTAGE BRONZE METAL VENETIAN GONDOLA INCENSE BURNER VENICE SOUVENIR GRAND TOUR?
Antique bronze or bronzed metal miniature gondola that is also an incense burner. Probably made as a souvenir from Venice in the early 1900's, perhaps as a Grand Tour souvenir. This heavy miniature gondola is cast in a very dark finished bronze metal with excellent detail in the ornate designs on the boat's prow and canopy, which lifts off to reveal a compartment that holds the incense. One side of the removable canopy is embossed"VENEZIA" The Gondolier is on the back of the boat, but his oar is missing. The gondola rests on a separate metal stand with ornate figural fish on each end. This souvenir gondola measure 7.5" long by 1.25" wide and stands almost 3" tall to the Gondolier. Exceptional Antique Victorian Grand Tour Colosseum Micro Mosaic Bracelet
This finely crafted bangle bracelet was fashioned from 10K during the late 19th century. It features an impressive micro-mosaic of the Colosseum. The shading and craftsmanship is wonderful! The mosaic itself measures 31.94 mm x 24.86 mm. The black background measures 38.85 mm x 32.14 mm. Unfortunately the background has suffered several cracks that do not continue through more than.85 mm of the mosaic. They are not highly noticeable. The mosaic is bezel set in a simple frame of grooved. Coiled wire and fixed to a remarkable gold wrist band. The band contains phenomenal hand graved patterns to the East and West of the centerpiece. The pattern continues down half of the band. The bracelet portion is composed of an adjustable band that can accommodate various wrist sizes. The band measures 24 mm at its widest and gently tapers to 9.25 mm at ... morethe base. Though unmarked with karat fineness this handmade beauty tests positive for 10k gold using an acid test. The band itself has two minor breaks where the engraving had created a thin section. A jeweler competent with a laser should be able to weld/repair these but the piece is wearable as is.

ANTIQUE c1800 GRAND TOUR ITALIAN ROMAN MINERVA FINE CARVED RED CORAL LARGE CAMEO
Description This antique 19th century c1800-20 superb Grand Tour Italian Roman Coral cameo of Minerva(Greek- Athena) Is of exceptionally large and unusual form in great highly saturated natural red colour. It is of elongated oval tablet form and very finely hand carved in true Roman Revival style, with Minerva three quarter face on and looking down to the left. She is wearing a fabulous mask helmet with feathers at the top and her hair cascading from underneath and down her long neck. The strap holding her armour and some scale detail of the armour, are just visible above the top of her round shield which has beaded edge and central flame and lightning motif emblazoned. Beneath the shield and body. The coral cameo edge is undercut with lip beneath, so when mounted, this lower part would sit above, proud of the mount, whereas a mount would ... moresit over the edge of the upper part of the cameo as normal. Although there are shallow grooves around the top thinner back edge, these are not very deep for a mount to get a good grip on, so just the relief figure was designed to float above a mount. If you study the super sized photos. You will see there is some lime-scale encrusting to the surfaces, particularly in the hollows which is easily removable, but cold point to even greater age. CONDITION It is in very good condition apart from on each side at the very finest points of the rim. There are very minor shallow flea bite nibbles to the surface of the coral, but these would be covered by any mount you put the cameo in(please see photos) DIMENSIONS Height 4.7cm. 1& 27/32" inches) width 1.9cm- 2cm, 25/32" inch) thickness 9.5mm, 3/8" inch) unpacked weight 9.29 grams. Italian micro mosaic souvenir made during the 1830s-70s. This piece showcases five of Romes most important destinations. The center medallion depicts St. Peters square; the other medallions show: the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Temple of Hercules and some ancient ruins. Although this piece has been broken and repaired, only the Colosseum medallion has been compromised; the other medallions are in fabulous shaped. It would even be possible to cut the small, antique mosaics out of the stone and use them as individual decorations. This piece is in good overall condition. Despite its large repair. The entire stone has a break from the two o'clock to six o'clock position, which has been ... morerepaired. The repair could certainly be done better and filled in more and repainted to make it almost invisible. The Colosseum mosaic is broken and about 1/3 is missing, but it could be filled in and painted to match if so desired. The largest, center mosaic is missing a couple of small stones, as we have pointed out in the close-up photograph. There are numerous small chips to the black stone especially along the edges. The other three mosaics are in fabulous overall condition. I can find no other problems. The whole piece measures 4 1/2 by 6 1/4 inches. The center mosaic measures 1 3/4 by 2 inches and the other four measure 1 1/4 by 1 1/2 inches. Good luck and bid with confidence. RARE ~ Pink 1800s Antique PALAIS ROYAL GRAND TOUR Perfume Bottle FRENCH FLORAL
Item Description While starting bids may vary I ALWAYS POST WITH NO RESERVE! Up for auction is a lovely Pale Pink Perfume Bottle. I believe it is a Palais Royal/ Grand Tour perfume bottle. Most likely from France. It has a floral ceramic tile on the top of the lid. The center of the bottle has a silver background with hand painted, colorful floral enamel decorations surrounding 3/4 of the bottle. The"back side" is mostly without flowers. The only real damage to report is a slight bend of the lid on one side as you will see in the photos. There is light rubbing to the silver background and the gold detail lines as you would expect for it's age of nearly 150. The lid is a bronze or brass metal. The pink glaze is in excellent condition ~ only a little roughness around the very bottom edge underneath. No chips, cracks or repairs ... morenoted. The stopper is missing, as is often the case with an item this old. This bottle most likely dates to the middle of the 1800's. These perfume bottles were souvenirs collected by travelers as they made their way through Europe on their"Grand Tours" The hinge works perfectly& is intact. The lid does close tightly. Be sure to shop bottles of similar style and age so you know just what a treasure this is! These painted Grand Tour bottles do not come up for sale as often as the clear glass, red& green bottles ~ these painted bottles are much more scarce.
