Antique French Gilt Bronze Clock w Cockerel. Jewels Antique gilt bronze mantel clock. Made in France, 19th century. Measurements: approximately 7 1/2 inches high. A little over 4 1/8 inches accross the front of the base. The case stands on 4 turned gilded legs. Base of white marble with an inset row of ormolu scrolls in the front. Rectangular steps. Tapering towards a marvellous cockerel/ rooster finial. The rooster being a symbol of France, this clock would have some French significance. Golden gadrooning around the base and at different levels. The front with fantastic applied ormolu flowers and foliage surrounding a protruding ring of paste'diamond' gems which enclose the dial. Above, casket like dome surmounted with the cockerel. Excellent modelling with fine detail of feathers and musculature and one can almost feel him rustling ... morehis tail and crowing. Sides of case are fluted. The dial is Classic French mastery and beauty: white enamel with the numerals. Both Roman and Arab(for the hours and the minutes) in dark, cobalt blue. They are surrounded on the inside by a ring of flower swags- exquisitely enamelled in minute detail. The hands of the dial are also quite lovely- very fine gilt openwork. Antique Petite Bronze French black tole and crystal Empire Chandelier
LET ME SAY FIRST OF ALL. I USE THIS LIGHT DAILY. Petite Bronze and Crystal Chandelier with Black Tole. Bronze/brass frame in nice condition with traditional casting of flora and acanthus leaves. The design of the chandelier is French Empire with outstanding craftsmanship and detail. Lighting fixture is complete with no missing crystals. One of the spears has been broken off and repaired back into place. It is not noticable or visible as it was a clean break and repair. Fixture has five sockets. The Chandelier is in original condition excepting the repair to the leaf/spear. It retains the original chain and is missing the original ceiling canopy. All the lights work, but one bulb is burnt out. This has its original socket sleeves which depict dripping candles though they have yellowed over time. This size is smaller than a full size chandelier. ... moreThese chandeliers are rare and very desirable. It 18" wide(from outer tip of the floral light holder across to the farthest tip of another) and 28" tall including the chain. So the drop is 28" from ceiling to bottom tip of the chandelier) It could be lengthened by adding additional chain. I do not have the original ceiling cap. I have one purchased from a local box store that works well with this fixture and will include it. I have this fixture hooked to a dimmer switch and can create the ambience for any occassion. This candelabra seems to be of french design. It was once an electric lamp that used twist-on. Double contact light bulb, but has been/was used as candle holder for some time. It has wax residues. It is undusted, rough looking and seems quite old. It has a gothic look; like it came out of Dracula's castle. It has a beautiful red aged bronze tone to it. It has afew spots of what seems to be gold gild. The base is in good condition with minor age cracks that don't show all the way to the top or just a small portion on the very edge. The three branches may not be aligned in perfect symmetry. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. Although mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The Rubber Mold First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. French Enamel on Bronze Vase, not copper signed M Lentz Courtly Gentleman
This auction is for a lovely cabinet vase in French enamel on bronze. The decoration is superb. It measures about 5 1/2 inches tall. It does have three tiny initials but these may be identification marks of a former owner. At least one of the letters may be from the Cyrillic alphabet. Condition is very good but we do want to call three notes to your attention. There is a mark up near the rim. There appears to be nothing on the outer surface but sometime made a dark mark which we have shown in a detailed picture. There is a scratch on the base where someone tried to mark through identifying marks. The is also a dent in the bronze. You can see this in the picture. It does not show when the vase is displayed.
