There are two wells, one with its porcelain liner, the other without. It seems to be in great condition, with no breaks, cracks or scratches. The centerpiece of this Inkstand is a bronze sculpture of a two birds that appear to be peacocks. Ray and Bevy Jaegers in their book The Write Stuff: Collector's Guide to Inkwells. Fountain Pens, and Desk Accessories. Published in the year 2000, indicate that this piece was popular in France, but that Tiffany made a design so similar that it is not clear who made any given piece. This item can be used for display, on 3 blue velvet covered shelves and one storage compartment on the bottom(behind the painting on the bottom of the door. It stands on 4 curved legs decorated with one bronze sabo each. There is a single door with a functional lock and a key. The piece is hand painted on the bottom in the manner of Vernis Martin. Bottom of the front door has a courting figural scenes, a man and a lady sitting in the woods, while the sides have nature scenes- beautiful landscapes. This is a Mid 19th Century Napoleon III Boulle Bureau Plat(Bureauplat) Better yet Bronze Mounted Tortoise and Scrolling Brass Inlaid Leather Top Desk. This work of art can still be used for the purpose it was made for, however it is an eye candy with a writting surface covered in original dark(navy) blue Moroccan tooled leather(gold edges) wich has darkened with age to almost black appearance. Quality of bronze mounts is a 10+. They are classic French III Empire mounts, on the edges with saboes on the bottom. Cabriole legs matching in front and back, flanking a single drawer. An Antique Bronze Swing Clock on a Cast Bronze Base. Stands 16 1/2" tall from base to top of clock. The figure is 13 1/2" tall to top of arm holding the clock. This peice has beautiful patina. There is fantastic detail in everything from the hands and feet to the hair and clothing all the way down to the cast bronze base which has Art Nouveau design. Age is apparent in the base. All the edges are smooth and there is wear in spots around the top. It does need adjusting to keep the swing clock swinging. It will swing and tick approximately 15 minutes then slows down. No markings other than the 3840 stamp on the bottom which. Through several hours of internet research, I found mention of the 3840 number on one site about Ansonia Swing Clocks and this number is the number of ticks from the inside weight you should hear per hour as the ... moreclock swings. The cast bronze base appears to be unusual also. It seems that the majority of swing clocks are on a solid base. But If you find a site with many pictures of antique Ansonia Swing clocks you will find more examples of cast metal bases than other sites. Antique French style metal bronze & or brass wall sconce candleabra frame
Hi folks! here for your bidding consideration is this victorian era original candleabra framed wall sconce. I believe the piece to be made from bronze and brass and it measures 17" long from the top of the bow to the very bottom underneath the middle candle holder and just a little over 11 1/2" across the center front outside edge. Also measuring just shy of 11 1/4" from the back inside edge where a mirror or picture would be held and 36 1/2" all the way around the circle frame. As seen it has 3 seperate candle holders highly decorated with ornate molded florals& leaves. Detailed raised trim beading and what looks like a hand hammered top bow& ribbons. On the back is missing a couple of metal brackets which hold the mirror or picture inside the frame. The piece looks solid& free any breaks with no signs of ... moreany repairs. Very Rare French Industrial Diving Helmet Clock Circa 1890 with Barometer/ Thermometer/ Clock& Compass. Extremely rare and most that I have seen are missing the Compass on the top. It was retailed by Arnold& Lewis. Manchester which is written on the gilt dial. That would be Manchester England. The timepiece is an 8 day French time only movement with platform escapement. There is no damage to the clock or its Belgian marble base. Movement is not running because the balance wheel is loose. The winder key is missing as well as one small loop from the front and two bolts in the back. These could be copied from the others if you wanted to. This is a very fine and beautiful Antique Clock in the Art Nouveau style made of gilded bronze and dating from the early years of the last century. There are some words and numbers stamped on the bottom of the back. But they are illegible. This clock has a new movement and keeps perfect time. Very often the cases for these clocks were made in France for export and sale in the States. I cannot be sure if this is the case with this clock. But. Considering its early date, I think it would be more rare if it were American made, since the Art Nouveau Movement was still in its early years even in Europe. The Art Nouveau movement was an international philosophy and style of art. ... moreArchitecture and applied art, especially the decorative arts, that was most popular from 1890 to 1910. It was a reaction to the academic art of the 19th century, inspired by natural forms and structures, not only in flowers and plants but also in curved lines. Our clock has the typical curving lines and foliage- a bouquet of flowers above the dial. And two more flowers near the bottom- often seen in Art Nouveau objects. It also has a charming figure of a beautiful young woman whose right arm and long gown are made to seamlessly blend into the structure of the case. The entire case has been gilded. But some of the gilding has naturally worn away. It may look in the photos as if all of the gilding were still intact. This is a trick of the light and also, possibly part of the original design. Under the gilding is a layer of gold paint, which, except on close inspection, seems to fill in for the worn gilding. You may be able to notice this in some of the detailed photos. Much of this piece has a very desirable'crackle' or crazed finish that can only be obtained from age. The photos did not show this. J.Robert Superb french art deco wall sconces in nickel plated bronze. They hold very rare shades in moulded-pressed glass both signed J.Robert. Robert was a Paris based lamp manufacturer in the 30ies. He had his shades made by EJG and verreries des Hanots. The height of the sconces is 33.5 cm(13-1/8" and they come 15 cm from the wall. The sconces are in very good condition. They are renickeled and I have patinated the new nickel plating. They come rewired and still have their B22 bayonet sockets. This most impressive late 1800s cast and chased brass or bronze double Standish measures 9” tall x 17” x 12 ¾” deep and boasts design details inspired by French Baroque architecture. There are finely detailed domes on each of the wells and the central box/reservoir for sealing wax boasts a gargoyle or grotesque on its lid. It is also equipped with paired candle sockets for the dual purpose of illumination and melting sealing wax. It has an old polished surface with pleasant dark wax patination and shows no losses or repairs that I can see. There is an imperfection in the casting that shows as a crack on the underside. Great French Early 19th Century Figural Bronze Clock. Movement by Vincenti in Nice Fully Working Condition Very nice French clock with silk suspension(thus. Dating it to the first half of the 19th century) and beautiful bronze statue on top. The condition of this clock for its age is good and it is in fully running and striking order. Dial was beautifully done with blue numerals and maker's signature, but, unfortunately, has sustained some damage. The damage was very well repaired, but hairlines remain. Pendulum and bell were removed to take a good picture of the movement, but they are included with the clock. Pictures speak for themselves, but do let me know if you have any additional questions. FRENCH 19th C. BRONZE INFANTRY BUGLER, circa FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR
Choice 19th century French bronze statue. Featuring a French infantry soldier(poilu) with bugle raised. The uniform is that of the French Army at the time of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. He is equipped with a kepi, full pack, and bolt-action rifle. The rifle and bugle were cast separately from the body. The rifle barrel is slightly bent. This sculpture was formerly the property of a GAR(Grand Army of the Republic. A Union Civil War veteran's organization) unit in the mid-west. At some point around the turn of the century, it was refitted to house an electric lamp in the tree stump. The stump is hollow, made from actual tree limbs, and once contained a length of cloth electrical cord, a small piece of which remains in the wooden base. The entire unit was then painted lightly with silver paint, with the exception of the bronze or ... morebrass GAR plaque on the base, An excellent addition to any GAR collection.
