Details Description: Antique cast iron doorstop cast in the form of a full figured French Bulldog. The bulldog is sitting on its hind legs and having its front legs straight. The dog's head is tilted sideways to its right and upwards. Its ears are perked-up. It is wearing a cream collar. The dog is colored in cream off-white and black colors. The details of the dog's face are very well cast so you can see its eyes. And mouth. Look at the wrinkles around the eyes. The door stop is made of two parts held together with a screw. The screw appears not to have been unscrewed in the past and we decided not to try to unscrew it to verify the existence of marks on the inside. Body position and paint scheme and pattern. This is the only seated English Fox hound I have come across. Other unique features include a collar and painted tongue. This is an original. Rare Hubley Cast Iron Sitting Boston Terrier Doorstop from the early 1900s. Authenticity is assured because it has the original round Hubley label on the underside. This pup was sitting on the side of the staircase in our family home in New England for decades. Adorable, highly prized, solid cast iron with original paint. All of these from this era have some paint loss and this also has the usual chipping. But it has not been touched up or disturbed from the original condition. Made in Lancaster. PA. USA. Hubley Terrier is 4 3/8" high and 5 5/8" long from the end of the tail to the front extended paw. The widest part of the flat base is 2 3/8" wide. Pup weighs almost 4 lbs.

This is unmarked but believed to be from the Hubley or more likely the John Wright Foundry. I have come across other Wright items that had this very specific(to Wright) green bottom. Maker and marks if present, as well as all aspects of condition. The Boston Terrier Button you will notice in one of the pictures is a magnet- which is a simple test to assure you that it is indeed cast iron. In this auction we have an antique cast iron frog doorstop. ... moreThis is unmarked so we are not able to attribute this back to a specific maker. But perhaps there is a cast iron frog enthusiast that would like to share a little knowledge? We are told that this piece is quite old and likely dates back to the late 1800s early 1900s due to the shape, size, sprue marks, and paint remnants. This could also be used in lots of places like as a paperweight, or a garden statue, or a single bookend, or even a finial on a post. The bottom is recessed and has a threaded hole which should take a bolt to secure it down. The large lump on the bottom is actually a"sprue" mark. That is where the metal was poured into the mold from a hole on the outside. Some companies will cut them and grind them, and others will not. This one chose the"will not" path. There is a bit of residual original green paint the some of the more recessed areas. There is also some great patina mixed in on the bottom as well.
