We understand that this bust was made during the 1880s. The Earl of Beaconsfield died in 1881. There is a diagonal signature on the rear of the bust with the single word"LAURENT" So it is possible that the bust was made by the famous French sculpturer Eugene Laurent 1832- 1898. These two busts must be from a set. They are both made of a die cast or pot metal. Although it visually looks like bronze. I do believe that it is not. It is made of some other metal. The cloth or felt bases are missing and the seem on the back of FDR is visible. Offered is a rare bronzed. Cast metal, high relief, profile bust, or plaque of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, signed-I believe the initials are T. B. and copywrighted 1935. Appears to be solid cast bronze, but in fact is some sort of bronze plated non-magnetic, heavy metal. I can see traces of the underlying silver metal in a few spots. This piece is 1/8-1/4" thick, which is twice that of the average spelter casting, there's no white(lead) corrosion. I think it may be a composite like German, or nickel silver. I've searched, but have been unable to find another like it anywhere online. It is a very rare& detailed image! In very good original condition. Can be hung on the wall, or stood upright as a bust, doorstop, or large bookend. Measures 7 3/4"H x 5 1/4"W x about 2" Deep. Actual color is antique bronze, like ... morethe first photo.
