Wonderful estate collection find.chain drive French wall clock with original porcelain medallion or cartouche numbers in place and readable.some age fade to the black of the numbers as you can see in our posted photos. Carries an minute moon hand.hour is missing. The embossed sunburst pendulum has a bit of loss at the top ray or tip.this bob may attribute it to the Morbier region of France. There is a small attached plaque at the bottom of the wood case that reads"Remontoir Brevete S.G.D.G. which translates to"Winder Patented" The S.G.D.G. translates to"Without any guarantee from the Government" or Sans Garantie DuGovernement and was required to be stamped on all objects with a legal patent in 1844 and after. Especially those manufactured for export. Some french manufacturers ... moreproduced clocks for high end jewellers such as Tiffany's, Mappin Webb and private names without stamping their own brand on the item, but they did have to stamp"Brevete SGDG" somewhere on the piece. When hung on the wall, the clock immediately started to run and continued to do so for about an hour before stopping. It was not interested in running consistantly thereafter and will require your expertise or that of a professional for proper working and accuracy. Back side of the case has a metal wall hanger that appears original to the piece, with a number of 8322 incised on the hanging ring. Additionally, we note some pencil inscribed markings, some of which are illegible, on the back of the clock. There appears to be some discoloration on the back side, where a paper label was possibly in place at the point of manufacture for the clock.label is no longer present. Antique Morbier French? Estate Wag on Wall Clock Metal cherubs rooster bell AND
This is the most AWESOME clock I've ever come across. I wish I knew more about it. The estate I purchased it from. The auctioneer said it was a very early wag on wall clock. He said probably from the 1800's. That was his guess and I really do not know. So, I uploaded lots of photos hoping you can tell more about it and the condition. I was really surprised looking inside and in places as far as how good the condition is IF it is from the 1800's. But, then I started noticing the patina on the back side of the cherubs/angels rooster metal deco at the top. I also noticed the wood on the handle that winds the rope piece the weights go on, that the small piece of wood on the handle looks old. So, I really do not know. Both sides open and I looked for some type of imprinting/engraving or marking. I did find one metal piece that has ... moreon it or looks to be.looking with a magnifying glass, ALMA/ 80 PL 109 10 L" It is so heavy, but there's a metal piece on the back top for display on a wall. I do not know about the working condition or mechanisms of it. If it works? I do not know. I was unable to get any history on it from the estate I purchased it from. I was able to hear how the bell rings: I did purchase other items from this estate dated all the way back from the early 1800's to early 1900's. Are these the correct weights that are with it? I am not sure. PLEASE be your own judge. And, I hope you will be able to tell more about it by looking at the pictures. I cannot find a clock like this to compare to. The pendulum is spotted and shows wear. There are places of wear on the clock. But, considering it being from maybe the 1800's it looks clean. The more I looked, I questioned whether it might be a reproduction OR a piece that has just really been taken care of. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself. Here is a beautiful French Wall Clock for your home or office. Made by Fontenoy Fontenay of France. The clock has a Sonnerie Chime that can be utilized or silenced by a lever just inside the case. The chime is called Fontenoy. Not your typical Westminster or Whittington chime. This clock is in running. Chiming and striking condition. Was running when I obtained the clock. All I have done is lubricate the bushings and pinion points to loosen any hardened oil up from the years. The movement is a little dirty and could use a good cleaning. That is what I think ... moreis going on with the strike and chimes as it does not do so consistently. There are 5 chime hammers and 4 strike hammer. The three springs feel sound when keyed. The clock does come with the winding key that came with the clock. The movement has"Fontenoy" and"France" on the back plate with the numbers"43/110" and"32" I am going to guess the 32 is for the year 1932. The company was in business in he 1920s to 1940s. ANTIQUE FRENCH PEDESTAL CLOCK MARBLE 8 DAY T & S GILDED ORMOLU PLATFORM ESCAPE
This is an early French Pedestal Style Clock circa 1860 which at one time had a bronze sculpture on top. Another statue can be mounted which will make a very fine and expensive French statue clock. It is white Carrarra Marble with Gold Gilded LOST WAX CASTED very crisp detailed ormolu accents. Around the top is a gold gilded beaded ring; on each side of the dial is a gilded LOST WAX casting and an additional casting on the back. Between the front casting and the back casting there is a hole on each side which indicates that there was at one time a small casting which is now missing. Taking care of that is a relatively easy remedy. The clock has a perfect porcelain dial; no defects. Just perfect. The bezel is also gold gilded. The movement is an 8 day time and strike on an original French silver bell. The clock movement bears the seal of the ... moreParis Exposition of 1855 in which this model"VINCENTI" won the silver medal(medaille d'argent) It has a balance platform escapement which needs to be cleaned and oiled. The movement itself has already been cleaned with the mainsprings removed from the barrels during the cleaning and all reassembled and oiled but not the platform. The clock itself weighs 24 lbs. before packing. I estimate that the total packed weight would be around 30 to 32 lbs. There are no breaks. Chips or major scratches on it. The Dial/Face: The porcelain dial/face is in excellent physical condition. There are a few hairline cracks on it here and there. Up for sale is this antique French clock movement. This came out of a statue or figural clock. The external diameter of the front is just under 4" Like 3 15/16" The movement is being sold for parts or repair, it is not running. There is no glass in front of the face. There is a name, it appears to be N. Friderick Paris on the movement, my guess is this is the retailer or the assembler of a blank. Antique French Bronze Marble slate Statue Clock Rare and Unusual Bronze sides
Fantastic old French Clock for repair. As you can see from the pics the front bottom which was slate or marble is missing. The rest of the clock appears to be intact however sold as is and untested and in need of repair. The chime feature does appear to work when you manually move the hands to the hour or half. It does have the pendulum. I am relatively sure that the ornate sides mounted to the case and the statue are bronze. They are very high quality with lots of detail and a very old patina. Overall size of the clock is 12 inches wide and 15 inches tall. The rear opening and the front opening both have bevelled glass and the dial looks like it is also slate or marble. Note that the numerals appear to have been metal as you can see small holes where they were once mounted. dial has a vertical crack from 12 to 6, see pics. The statue appears ... moreto be in nice condition, note the foot area where I neglected to dust correctly is fine, the dust looks like a crack. The movement is french and marked Medaille d? I am offering this beautiful French made wall clock that is in working condition. This was recently purchased from a neighbor that told us it is probably from the mid 1800's. The clocks face has beautiful wood and metal inlay. The dial is enamel or porcelain. I have been told that this type of clock is sometimes called a coffin clock because of the way it opens but can also be known as a Oeil De Boeuf Clock. The movement is marked with the initials G.R. The clock measures 25" tall x 20" wide x 5-1/2" deep. Also included is a winding key for the clock. This listing is for a vintage or antique wall clock. It was made by Japy Freres Cie in Beaucort France. They were made from about 1848 to 1935. I'm not sure how old this one is but from what I found on line. One that was very similar was 1925 with the same enameled face. It is a wind up and it does work and keep time. You do have to balance these properly to get them to keep proper time. There is a balance piece on the pendulum that can be moved up and down and the way you hang it on the wall can also be adjusted. But it looks great just hanging there doing nothing. It measures 13 in. across and is made of pot metal and enameled with flowers on a cream color background. There are a few little paint chips here and there but for the most part, it's in pretty good condition considering the age. I also have the winding key. There are ... moreno dents in the face but the door to the works, on the back, does have dents and a bit of rust. It was made in France and is marked on the inside of the works with their hallmark. This is the real deal. A genuine French rack clock signed"Rocaille" with a carved gilt wood surround. And a marbellised and gilded back plate. Cow-tail pendulum with wooden bob and clock surround cast bronze. An oldie but a goodie, from my husband's extensive collection. Originally purchased from a major Auction House in the UK. The clock runs strongly and keeps good time. Pendulum length is adjustable, and dial& hands in good condition.
