This item is a beautiful antique French carriage clock with original travel case. Likely late 1800's. The clock has been professionally restored and serviced and is running beautifully. Keeping excellent time. All original bevelled glass windows are intact in great condition, no cracks or chips. The clock still has the original white enamel dial in perfect condition, hands look in great condition also. Some small signs of age and wear from the brass case, small scratches, dents etc, normal signs of age. Made in Fance" stamped on the balance platform. It measures 4.5" inches tall a little over 3"inches wide and 2.5" inches deep. Leather covered wood travel case shows wear with some patches of missing leather as shown in photos. The interior fabric lining looks great however, and the clock has its original buckle and ... morestrap though unattached. The travel case has a hollow for the original two ended clock key, one side for winding, other for setting, and a hollow for the sliding wood door, to protect the clock face when desired. CLASSIC ANTIQUE FRENCH"0bis" CARRIAGE CLOCK(made around 1900 by Couaillet Freres* IN EXCELLENT CONDITION* bearing the name on the dial of the retailer- Wm LISTER& SONS NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE I have been restoring vintage clocks for well over 30 years and finished work on this one in my workshop in early July 2013. I completely dismantled both the case and the movement. I checked the movement carefully for wear. Inserted a couple of new bushes, polished the pivots then cleaned polished and oiled it- front and back. After cleaning and polishing them, I gave the case parts a couple of coats of special wax polish before reassembling them. The whole clock is now in really very fine condition- in my opinion, about as good as these antique carriage clocks come! Height(with handle folded down) 4 1/2 inches(11.5 cms) Width 3 inches(8 cms) ... moreDepth 2 1/2 inches(6.5 cms) CASE: Solid brass in excellent original condition. All case parts including the base. Are stamped with the manufacturers batch number(77) The clock still has its original base masking plate. I stripped off the tarnish then cleaned, polished and waxed the parts prior to rebuilding the case. It now has a rich antique patina which should last for years before needing another polish, and looks much as it would have when new. MOVEMENT: An 8 day timepiece(i.e non-striking) B earing the Couaillet trademark arrow on the back plate(which is also inscribed"MADE IN FRANCE" Following restoration. It is in great condition and in full working order. As with the case, I completely dismantled the movement to clean and polish it. After rebuilding it, I oiled it with appropriate grades of clock oil. I also cleaned and oiled the original cylinder escapement- which now works strongly with very good amplitude and a particularly quiet tick. A fast/slow adjustment lever which operates on the escapement. Antique French MORBIER Country Clock with Repeater Bell Strike, Repousse Facade
with Repeater Bell Strike. Repousse Facade click picture to enlarge click picture to enlarge Morbier clocks were made starting in the late 1700's up through approximately WW1. One story has it that they were French country farm clocks. When farmers worked in their fields. On quite small farms, they knew when to come in for a meal or to end their day by listening to the clock ringing. Since they could not be sure they heard the first ring in order to count the hours, the Morbier clock was made with a repeater bell strike that would ring again 2-3 minutes after the first ringing. That way the farmers would know to pause and listen for the second ring to be sure of the hour. The age of this clock is unknown. The decorative repousse facade is highlighted with a large eagle at the top with wings spread wide. The porcelain dial has Roman numerals. ... moreThe maker is Chauveau& Delaunay. Apparently located in the town of Ruffec in Southwest France. The clock runs and timing is adjusted by raising or lowering the round bob of the pendulum on a long bolt with a nut. The cast iron weights add together to over 16 lbs. There are a number of imperfections for this 100-200 year old clock. The end of the hour hand is missing. There is a noticeable ding in the brass border or ring around the dial, there is a small hole in the repousse, a few hairline cracks or crazing in the dial, and some rust etc. Since the clock typically mounts fairly high on a wall, most of these blemishes do not draw attention from casual observation. Close-up pictures are provided to allow you to make your own evaluation of condition issues. The price already reflects these condition issues. It's is in an excellent condition regarding its age and it comes in SOLID METAL having beautifully decorated bronze features. You will definately NOT find a second one easily. The most special thing about this clock is that it runs like a CHRONOGRAPH; perfect and"on the second" On top there is a bell which tells you it is time to wake up. The sound of it is clear. This piece has not been cleaned or polished. The inner brass edge around the dial is shining like new. There is(real) glass in front. The bronze base is richly decorated; the same goes for the bronze carriage handle on top of this clock. On the dail you will find the time in Roman numbers for the AM part and in Arabic numbers ... morefor the PM part. The dial also is diveded in 60 partitions; for each minute one partition. It is in working order and striking properly(from a rack) fairly clean but would benefit from a service i guess. There was some dirt on the minute hand in the picture which is now gone. Weighs 850g before wrapping. The bezel is 119mm across and this will fit a hole around 108mm. The mechanism has both retaining straps with screws. The suspension spring and brocot adjuster both there too. Thick. Original bevel-edged glass to the bezel and a crsip engraved slate chapter ring. The bronze case is nicely patinated to a light/medium antique bronze color. For sale is this nice antique French Victorian style mantel clock. The clock measures 18 ½” tall by 10 ¼” wide by 6” Not sure of who the maker is but I do see some sort of writing that I cant make out that is wriiten on the inside on the granite. Condition is good to fair. Clock does not work. Does have some loose pieces of bronze or brass and there are also some minor flea bites in the granite. Buying AS IS. For sale is this Japy Frerese& Med D’Honneur alabaster mantel clock w/ granitures. The clock measures 15 3/4" tall by 11" long by 4 1/2" wide. The granitures each measure 10 7/8" tall with a 3 1/2" square base. The face has some wear around the key hole. The alabaster or marble has flea bites. There is a little play to the handles of the granitures. Along with the side pieces of the clock. There is also a foot that needs replacing on one of the ewers. Antique French Mantel Clock Circa 1800-1820 As is for Restoration!!!!
I do not speak CLOCK. My mother in law brought this to the US in 1946(English war bride) How long it was in her family I do not know. She gave it to us in 1984 and has worked fine and then we boxed it in 2006. I hope the pictures tell the story but from what I see. It is made of mahogany with metal inlaid and metal applied to the surface with small nails. Brass I assume. All of the cast metal pieces are there. I took it to a local antique clock guy and he said the movement is very old and unique with the thread. Gargoyle on the top and cut into the brass overlay. I am selling as a restoration project but I bet it would run with a little help. We have the key but as of now can not find it.
