The overall condition of the tray is very good with just a few dings and one or two scratches. You have to really examine hard to find the scratches. There is one scratch on the back of the tray near the sticker. The tray has a slight tacky feel to it. The finish is great I carefully washed the tray and the water beaded right off of it. The butidar Baluchari sari was once a prized possession of the upper class Bengal because of its ornamental ground, elaborate borders, fine corner figures and unusual anchal. The weaving of Baluchari was an elaborate and complicated process, often requiring a number of helpers to the main loom. Up to 12– 14 naqshas could be employed. Thus once the loom was set, weavers made a number of articles, upto 30 with different color combinations before resetting. The Baluchari sari had fine twisted silk warp and heavy silk as weft– often in contrasting colors like red and black, yellow and purple, creating a light and shade effect. This is a vintage Abenaki Indian sweet grass and ash splint basket. These were sold by the Gypsies years ago along the beaches in New England. This Native American hand crafted colorful basket is in very good original condition. This was a gift from a family member who purchased this in the early 1930's. It measures about 10" across and 4 1/2" high. This is a superb example of vintage Abenaki Tribal craftwork. This has been very well preserved. And is all original, no repairs. Colors are not faded, as this has been kept from sunlight for many decades. I recently had another Abenaki basket like this on eBay. This one is the last vintage Abenaki basket that I have.
