Antique Satsuma Hexagonal Vase Matte Black 1000 Faces 7 1/4 inches Marked
I purchased this Satsuma vase at an estate sale where there were other old oriental items. I think the general design is frequently called 1000 faces. It measures close to 7 1/4 inches tall. It weighs about 1 pound 4.1 ounces. I am not an Oriental pottery expert but I believe that this vase is old enough to be considered antique. I do not know its precise age. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. There is a chip that you can easily see. There are no cracks. The gold gilt shows some light to moderate wear. It looks like most of the gold part of the mark on the bottom has worn off. The unglazed circle of the bottom appears to be soiled. The black background has some hazy white discoloration that you can get an idea from my photos. There are a couple of small spots on one panel where the black glaze has apparently missed. I believe ... morethat the white crackle glaze is normal for Satsuma. Otherwise. It is generally fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of its general condition. I guarantee this Satsuma vase to be as described and as represented by my photos. The photos are part of the description. Glassmasters: RMS Titanic 7 by 9 inches
Glassmasters was in business for 40 years. Producing stained glass of the highest order. They silkscreened translucent enamel colors one at a time, drying them, as many as 16 times, then kiln-firing to 1100 degrees to permanently fuse them to the glass. They also reproduced art works for many museums and foundations: Tiffany. Frank Lloyd Wright, Disney, etc. I don't know the artist who did this dispiction of the Royal Mail Ship Titanic. It measures about 7 by 9 inches. Unfortunately. Glassmasters went out of business in 2005. We have since acquired their remaining unfinished glass stock. We have been listing it for several years now with satisfactory results. These pieces have not been framed unless specifically stated in the description.
