For your consideration is this VINTAGE DIRIGO EM SHERMAN SEATTLE. WASH. MARITIME SHIP COMPASS- GOOD USED CONDITION. This Maritime Compass is being offered in AS IS AS FOUND USED CONDITION. What you see pictured is what you will receive. Whether you want a Maritime Ship Compass for display or Restoration. This compass is a good candidate. By NO means in mint condition it merits consideration. Study the pictures and note the flaws to both the wooden box and the compass; and decide for yourself. As for the compass. Usually this type of compass has or had a liquid which the compass elements floated in. The liquid is not present. See the image of the underside. A plug of some sort seems to be missing. Also note the dried flaking paint; both at the interior bottom and walls. Compass itself still seems to function. As for the wooden box. Has some ... moreissues. You decide how repairable they may be. At the base one corner shows a visible gap. When the lid is fastened on there is also a visible gap. Also note on the lid a crack which extends from center nail to center nail. Also note the pegs in the lid. One match these to the base box to seal the lid. Not sure why the 3 holes in the one side are for. Compass measures about 3.5 inches in diameter. Wooden box measures 5.625 by 5.625 by 3.75 inches. This antique ships compass is in nice original condition. It is a gimbaled liquid filled compass in an oak box( lid to box is missing) It works great. There is an air bubble and I'm not sure what the liquid is(could be whiskey, distilled water, alcohol, or other) but can be refilled or topped off. This vintage Ship's Compass was made by E.S. Ritchie& Sons Inc. in Boston. Mass. and has a 7" diameter dial. It is serial number 106673. This nice size American Made Compass is complete with its gimbal ring and box. The compass is working properly. The compass has been in storage for many years and will need a good cleaning. The wood box will need some attention but should restore nicely. The compass has a 7" diameter glass lens and is approximately 8 5/16" in diameter. It is approximately 11 1/4" outside to outside of the yoke supports. The wood box is approximately 12 1/4" x 12 1/4" x 8" high. The compass and box weigh over 25 pounds. One screw is missing on the bottom of the compass(circled in red) No cracks or damage to the glass. The compass does aluminate but it needs a particular set of batteries which I undestand are still available on line. Box measures 10.25" H x 5.35" W. and weighs in at 4.12 lbs compass included. Vintage Tiffany Ship Weather Station Bronze Swiss Clock Compass Thermometer +++
This is a very nice weather station and is very heavy for it's size. There is a barometer. Thermometer with Celsius and Fahrenheit, Hygrometer on 4 sides. The top has a compass. All of the movements are Swiss. All of the meters are working. The clock is marked Tiffany and Co and swiss 8 Day at the bottom. I cannot figure out how to wind the clock or set it. There is a large gold knob beneath the pedestal I can only turn it to the left. It is 4.25" tall and 3.5" wide and 3.5" deep. I got this at an estate sale and was told it was used on the previous owner yacht. It weighs over 3 pounds and looks like bronze, but I am not positive that it is. You can also rotate the base. Each weather instrument has a thick glass cover. It is in very good condition, no dents or repairs. It does have some tarnish and could use a good cleaning ... moreon the metal. Just don't know if the clock works. On the bottom is a pressed number 403 and the word DEPOSE. We ship next day after payment. We take care not to have problems. Vintage or Antique Wilcox Crittenden& Co Ship's Maritime Binnacle Compass in Wooden Box. This is a great looking antique Ship's or Lifeboats Binnacle Compass in the original wooden box. The compass was made by Wilcox Crittenden& Co. Wilcox-Crittenden produced marine equipment at their Middletown. Connecticut facility for many years. The Wilcox name is again in use, but the old firm closed years ago. This is the classic WC compass the old company produced into the 1960s. I am sorry I do not know the exact year it was made. On the bottom of the compass bowl are numbers that are probably a date code. This number is what appears to be P403. The compass is three inches across the top in a blackened bronze compass bowl. We were informed that the Compass bowls were usually made of bronze with a flat painted or darkened finish to ... moreminimize glare. And for ease of maintenance. The finish often wears off after a few years, but the blackening on this instrument is still in original condition. We were told the compass has been drained for storage but works well. We do not know how to fill the compass so we have no way of confirming this. In what appears to be good condition for its age. The compass sits in a dove tail constructed wood box that is 4.75" x 4.75" and is 3.5" tall. It appears to have its original finish and still has the two side latches. Up for auction a Vintage 1967 Masketeers map. This is a authentic piece however it replicates The 1600's World Globe Map and is Brass Chipboard Wall Art. This Beautiful Masketeer World Map is in very good condition for its age with minor scuffs. And has some minor surface rust on the brass. I started to clean it up and the rust does come off with ease. I do not have the appropriate brass cleaner so i will leave it up to the new owner. For an original from 1967 this chipboard is in unbeliveble condition and who ever previously own it took oustanding care of it. This looks to be an older/vintage. Metal.I'm not sure of the type of metal. brass or copper? maybe. The lighting and flash really picked up a lot of dusty particles and places that aren't visible with the naked eye. It is mounted in a wood box. The wood box has a gold color inlay on the corners and the top has a gold color ship's steering wheel and corner type frames around it. I noticed some spotting on the front of the box but might polish out. There's a little metal latch on the front. After purchasing from an estate, on the way home, I got to test the compass and it seems to be in good working order. The wood/en box it's in measures approximately 4 1/2 inches side to side and approximately the same front to back and stands approximately 3 1/4 inches tall with the lid/top closed. Fresh estate find. Very Impresssive Ship Compass! This vintage Ship's Compass was made by E.S. Ritchie& Sons Inc. in Boston. Mass. and has a 6 3/4" diameter dial. Serial number 57751. Manufactured in 1920. This nice size American Made Compass is complete with its gimbal ring and box. The compass is working properly. The compass has been in storage for many years and will need a good cleaning. It is approximately 9 1/4" outside to outside of the yoke/ gimbal supports. I am offering this Antique E.S. Ritchie Nautical Compass Made in Boston. Mass. USA. This is a unique antique piece of history made by E.S. Ritchie, American inventor and physicist. The large nautical compass comes in a beautiful wooden box. The compass is held in a mechanical metal frame; the top reads"E.S. RITCHIE& SONS 57751 BOSTON. Dial face has sun damage showing wear with one area curling up a bit. Compass appears to operate correctly for this area. But may need compensation elsewhere. The copper has NOT been cleaned- all original patina! Wood Box Condition: Box is heavy in weight. No damage, shows age, but gorgeous medium-finish wood and very sturdy. Gimbal latches lock and work perfectly. Wood appears to be teak. All screws are brass standard flat head domed screws I recently was told that the serial number in Ritchie data base details following: Sold new on Oct 1. 1920 to C.M. Antique Vintage FLOATING BRASS Binnacle COMPASS IN WOOD BOX; Boat Ship Nautical
Up for grabs is an older floating brass compass in a lidded walnut box. I am not sure the exact age of this compass as I got it from a friend who got it from someone else. The compass itself looks to be in good working order. And the box is in excellent shape. The compass does show a little wear which you can see in the pictures. Also the screws that hold the compass may need a tiny bit of adjusting, if you think it needs it(just takes a flat head screwdriver) I'm not sure how it is supposed to be but it can be tightened and loosened from the sides. Nice nautical inlay on the box making this a nice display piece if it was not in use. The walnut box measures 6" X 6" X 4" and the compass itself is 4" in diameter. This dial is made of heavy weight brass and features a black background and slightly raised natural brass letters. It is 9” in diameter and the words"MADE BY THE LIONEL CORPORATION. This was made by J W Ray& Co. in Liverpool- the same company that outfitted the Titanic with some if its instrumentation. This item is very unique and rare and I have not been able to find another like it on the Internet. It appears to be an instrument for finding bearing. Possibly to aid in steering or navigation. It plugs in and the compass dial lights as shown in the photo. It is in a solid metal box and has a brass/bronze dial set into the top. Thankfully is has been left in its true weathered condition, not foolishly polished and lacquered that considerably lessens its collector value. Vintage Brass Ship's Compass made by George Woodman New York
A nice vintage brass ships compass with the makers mark"George Woodman Maker& Adjuster New York" on the face. Also has the number 1465 stamped into the brass. It is in an oak box-appears to have hand-cut dovetails. No idea of exact age-if I had to guess I would say late 19th/early 20th century but really don't know other than it is old. It does work-has liquid in it and still turns and keeps north. Etc. case is about 7 1/2" x 8 1/2" looks like there is some fading on the face where the letters are. Also there is a wooden piece on the bottom about 2" long that is missing. Looks like the brass is tarnished and never been touched, etc. Please feel free to ask any questions.
