This is a nice. Solid vintage Kelvin White boat compass with a thick binnacle-like base and hood. Has fluid and seems to be in good working order. As seen in photos, electrical cord has been cut so I cannot make any claim on the lighting. Size is about 7" in diameter across the base, about 7" high and I would say compass itself is 5" in diameter. It weighs about 8 pounds. The housing looks to be a hard plastic- possibly Bakelite. hi.I am selling a vintage ship/boat kelvin white express compass.pat.2428346.cb22700.the flat plate inside with the directions on it seems a little warped.it looks like the dial is missing.i do not know how because i do not hear it inside.it is old and shows signs of age and wear.it is very heavy.it measures 7' tall and 6' round at the widest part and 4 1/2' round at the base.a super heavy duty compass.i would think that it was from a ship rather than a fishing boat because of its size.i see a pair of wires coming out from the rim of the compass and going up to the top.i really do not know much about this item or how it gets hooked up.please study pictures carefully.thanks.

Vintage Antique LORD KELVIN Threaded COMPASS CARD in Box. Rare Nautical Maritime
As it is made from such fragile materials- essentially tissue paper and thread on a wire frame- this Lord Kelvin Compass Card. Designed for use in a nautical compass, is probably a rare survivor. It was made in England for Edwin Bowers and Sons, Sydney, Australia and it is still in its original heavy duty cardboard box. The box is just plain with no writing or logos etc. but the original layers of tissue paper are still inside. The compass card, which I believe dates to the 1920s, is very fragile and the silver backing paper has some tears in the centre where it joins the circular metal piece. Up for auction is a NICE VINTAGE KELVIN AND HUGHES LTD SHIP BINNACLE COMPASS. It measures 53.5" tall to the top of the lantern handle. It measures 28" from the tip of the"ball" support arm to the other support arm tip. The base measures 17.25" square. The face of the"dry face" compass measures 8.75" The serial# is 1653 J.E. A very nice example of an early Kelvin and Hughes binnacle. It includes the original lantern w/ font and burner. It also has it's original map holder. The compass seems to work properly. All glass is intact. Minor dents to brass hood. Nicely patina on all brass. The hardwood cabinet is in it's original finish with minor wear commiserate with age. One picture show a board missing behind one of the doors.the board has just detached and is still inside the column. The compass ... moreis missing the hardware that holds it down at the pins.
