This is for an Edwardian Military pocket fob compass numbered 8015. It has a silver coloured face with the compass name'Ceebynite' and it is clearly marked with the makers Short& Mason of London. It has a large link for attaching to a chain and under this is the button that when pressed releases the lid. It is in very good condition. With just the very light wear shown, there are no dents, the lid springs nicely and its fully working. It has a slight inscription inside of a past owners name and the date 2-9-1939 an the compass measures 44mm(1.75" in diameter. This antique compass is from WWI and is in working condition. It is marked LITENITE. Short& Mason, Taylor, Rochester, NY, PAT. APR. 20-1915. It is set in a nickel case and has a brass inner setting. It has not been polished or cleaned~that will be left to the new owner to decide if they want the antique to remain in it's beautiful condition or to restore to it's previous luster. The face plate rotates to orientation perfectly when the screw stem is loosened. The glass crystal is original to the piece and is free from knicks or scratches. It measures approximately 1 3/4" in diameter and 3/8" H. A true piece of history! Payment is due within 24 hours of auction ending. Short& Mason Compass 1903 Up for auction is a very cool brass compass. It was made in London in 1903 by Short& Mason. I was told that is is a hunter's compass but I don't know. I wasn't able to find anything like it. The dial is Mother of Pearl and there is no needle( The arrow is painted on the dial. At first I thought it didn't work until I realized it has an ON OFF switch on the side. The dial floats around but I can't vouch for accuracy. The compass measures 2" around. The leather case is 3" wide and 3 1/2" long. The case is missing the shoulder strap and the leather piece that secures the cover to the case. It has some scuffing where the strap rubs. The compass is in excellent condition with no scratches on the glass or dents in the brass. The previous owner scratched his name on the back. There is one very small dent on each side of compass case. This is a nice WW1 antique compass marked LITENITE. Short& Mason. Taylor. Rochester. NY. PAT. APR. 20-1915. It has a dry rotating dial and the bright copper surround it. The case is made of Nickel and is in excellent condition without dings or dents. You have to screw the crown in order to lock the dial and to unscrew it in order to release the dial. Which will find North easily and precisely. A lot of dust on the inside of the crystal, The glass crystal is in fair condition and one chip,you can see it in the last photo and it is just the crystal not the metal,the dial is in excellent condition.
