This auction is for an original vintage Saura Hand Bearing Compass type HB-65. This compass comes in its original wooden box and has a leather carrying strap. The strap has ripped and can easily be repaired. Box is in great original condition. Compass is in great working order. Has no condition issues. No cracks. No chips and no scratches. This is a nice antique Russo-Japan War era Imperial Japanese Navy fleet funding badge. Basically the group was formed to help the navy raise money to buy ships and various equipment. The group was established in 1899 and Prince Takehito was the president. It's made of red bronze with a stick-pin hanger attached to it. It measures 21 mm in diameter. A similar one can be found in the excellent book. In the Name of a Living God, page 54. The case is missing one wood slat on the lid, but this should be easy enough to replace. The compass face has a diameter of 9 3/4" and is made of weighted brass and bronze. It is marked"SPERRY GYROSCOPE COMPANY. The glass has some spots on it. The end on one of the brass threaded rods is messed up, may be broken off some, still threads good. Some writing under the compass but it is to worn to read. No tags. ALL ORIGINAL HUGE Diver Diving wrist Compass for Soviet VMF Navy Diver Diving Officers in 1970's. The kit includes a ... morecontainer with a liquid reserve and metal box. It is designed for deep diving and to minimize card pressure, pin friction and stop it vibrating, the body of the compass is filled with 50% glycol solution or 43% ethanol solution. However, there is still a small air bubble left(diameter 8–10 mm) The bubble is necessary to stop pressure mounting in the body when the liquid expands. It also shows the horizontal position of the compass. To move under water or on land according to the set azimuth, its corresponding mark needs to be aligned with the index on the base. The compass needs to be in horizontal position and needs to be rotated in a horizontal plane until the card hands are parallel to the body hands. The direction of the movement is decided from the index on the base. The compass base is an aluminum ring that encircles the body which is a truncated cone made of transparent plastic.
