I have here a very nice working condition compass. It opens and clicks closed and is just as it was many many years ago. It is marked Made in France on the inside and also marked 35 on the inside of the door. Locking mechanism works fine as well. There is inscreptions on the back that cant be seen by my phone. A few words i havnt tried to make out yet i will leave that up to the new owner it could be a name. Offering for sale a Antique Brass Maritime Ships Compass Marked 319/43. The compass looks old. however I can't find a maker mark and am not willing to take it apart to find one either. In the center of the center compass. It looks like a half of a ball, has what I believe is 319/43? The bottom housing is brass plated, the rest is solid brass. it's heavy. The clear plate on the front is glass, it has a white haze to it like it's really dirty on the inside. The dial on the inside is rough, it looks like this must have leaked some water at some point of it's lifetime or it was just exposed to the sun and weather for a very long time. Also, the compass dial does rotate, however, I'm not sure if it's accurate? This item is perfect if someone wants a restoration project. or maybe for a collector who can identify it and would ... morelike to leave it as is. It shows its age and the needle no longer moves but could be a simple fix you cab still move the bottom of the case but not the needle. The glads is lightly scratched but has a nice beveled edge. You are bidding on an Antique Underlit Nautical Maritime Compass. The dial is marked'Toronto' and the top ring and the outer ring are both marked'617. The compass is full of liquid and is without leaks. The liquid inside has some particles floating within. But could easily be cleaned and refilled without issue. I'll leave any reconditioning to the new owners. The blacking on the compass has some dings from wear but overall is in excellent shape. It appears to be brass or bronze underneath, and is quite heavy at about 13 and a half pounds. The compass works well: the inner card swings quite easily and appears to point correctly. The compass has a 7 inch interior face with the outside ring spanning just slightly under 10 inches. Height-wise, the compass is about 5 inches tall. The compass is also rare in that it is open to the ... moreunderneath, allowing it to be underlit and therefore read at night.
