Antique Standard Compass ship's brass and oak binnacle with a Bergen Nautik compass. The compass having been made in Bergen Norway. The binacle is 22" high x 10" x 10" and appears to be mostly complete with the exception of the mechanism in the oak base that has been removed and replaced with a light socket(ie electrified) I believe. From my research, that the binacle was made in the first half of the last century. Overall, the binacle is in good shape with no real damage to report. Some weathering to the finish on the oak base, as can be seen in the photos. The compass and glass are in good condition with no breaks or cracks. Reasonable reserve.

A similar one can be found in the excellent book. In the Name of a Living God, page 54. The case is missing one wood slat on the lid, but this should be easy enough to replace. Vintage antique ship compass Eugene M Sherman Dirigo Seattle early 1900 s works
This antique ships compass is in nice original condition. It is a gimbaled liquid filled compass in an oak box( lid to box is missing) It works great. There is an air bubble and I'm not sure what the liquid is(could be whiskey, distilled water, alcohol, or other) but can be refilled or topped off. The gimbal and housing are made of brass with a black finish. Thanks for looking.

Kelvin& Wilfrid O. White Co. Cased Ship's Compass in pretty good and appears to be original condition. I am not an expert with compasses but it seems to work well. The case is dove-tailed at all its joints and it is in good condition. There are some minor scratches and wear on the wood case due to age. There is a piece at the bottom that has cracked or came unglued. You can see in the last picture. Both screws that hold the compass are original and identical. The hinges on both sides are also original and good. The black paint in the compass is a little chipped/worn off in some areas but. The metal, glass and compass inside are good. This one seems an early one, I wasn't able to find information on dating by serial number but. This one shows serial number 3567 in two places and it seems a low number so it might be from early on ... more1920 or so. Measurements: Compass: 5-7/8" in diameter without the ring holding it. Box: 8" long by 8" wide by 5-1/4" tall. Weight: approximately 6 lbs A little history about the maker: Wilfrid O. White of Williamstown Australia married the daughter of American George W. Eldridge who published the first Eldridge Tide and Pilot book. Wilfrid came from a family of shipbuilders and he was fascinated with navigation. He took an opportunity to study with Lord Kelvin in the UK and when he returned to Boston in 1918 where he opened up a small nautical instrument dealership. Kelvin and Wilfrid O. White Co. Was located on historic State Street in Boston, a couple of blocks from the busy waterfront. He offered sextants, compasses in large binnacles, chronometers, binoculars, taffrail logs, barometers, and charts for all oceans. Antique 1880s ASH & SON Makers Brass Maritime Ship Compass Birmingham w/ Cover
ANTIQUE MARITIME COMPASS BY ASH& SON I picked this up at a local garage sale from an elderly gentleman. He said that he served in the Navy and picked this up overseas during his service.although he couldn't recall exactly where(he served during WWII) My knowledge of this item is very limited, but from my research online it seems to date to the 1880's. It looks to be in very nice condition. There is some wear to the brass as well as some scuffs and scratches as you would expect from it's age. It has a 3-legged removable adjustable base, 2 folding arms, 3 levels, and a cover which I believe works as a sun dial(which if that is the case it may be missing something that would fit into the 2 holes on the cover) One of the base's feet is a little bit bent. All 3 levels still have fluid and look to be working properly. The glass ... moreface is intact without cracks or heavy scratches. The functionality of the compass seems to be right on. Although the dial moves very slowly and deliberately.before it eventually settles at north. There is a level under the face that you can push/pull that lifts the base of the dial to one side.and the arm/base of the dial inside seems a bit loose like they could use a tightening. Again.my knowledge of these type of item is very limited, so I've made my best effort to fully describe it. Measurements; The face measures about 5 1/4" in diameter. The cover measures 5 3/4" diameter across the top. The compass height is about 3 7/8" with the base as shown from the bottom to the face top. Each arm measures about 4 5/8" long. It weighs about 5 1/2 pounds.

Up for auction a Vintage 1967 Masketeers map. This is a authentic piece however it replicates The 1600's World Globe Map and is Brass Chipboard Wall Art. This Beautiful Masketeer World Map is in very good condition for its age with minor scuffs. And has some minor surface rust on the brass. I started to clean it up and the rust does come off with ease. I do not have the appropriate brass cleaner so i will leave it up to the new owner. For an original from 1967 this chipboard is in unbeliveble condition and who ever previously own it took oustanding care of it. Antique Vintage FLOATING BRASS Binnacle COMPASS IN WOOD BOX; Boat Ship Nautical
Up for grabs is an older floating brass compass in a lidded walnut box. I am not sure the exact age of this compass as I got it from a friend who got it from someone else. The compass itself looks to be in good working order. And the box is in excellent shape. The compass does show a little wear which you can see in the pictures. Also the screws that hold the compass may need a tiny bit of adjusting, if you think it needs it(just takes a flat head screwdriver) I'm not sure how it is supposed to be but it can be tightened and loosened from the sides. Nice nautical inlay on the box making this a nice display piece if it was not in use. The walnut box measures 6" X 6" X 4" and the compass itself is 4" in diameter. Check out my! This is a brass Pelorus dial from an antique Pelorus instrument which is used to take relative bearings in determining a vessels position. This dial is made of heavy weight brass and features a black background and slightly raised natural brass letters. It is 9” in diameter and the words"MADE BY THE LIONEL CORPORATION. NEW YORK" are featured in the middle. The dial itself is graduated in individual degrees to conform to a compass card. The dial shows some cosmetic wear and scratches, consistent with an aged item. The back side shows where I polished a small section to verify it is brass. The genuine patina offers a very natural honest appeal to this unusual piece. This is an Antique John Bliss and Company of New York. Ship Nautical Maritime BRASS Compass& Wooden Box. The serial number is 5124. It dates pre 1948. The compass still holds water. It is liquid filled. The compass still points north. This compass will a great addition to any collection. The compass measures approx. 8 3/4 inches(just the glass alone) and approx. 10 1/2 inches with the brass ring included. The wooden box measures approx. 13 1/2 X 13 1/2. It is not the original box. A great estate sale find. The story behind the compass is that it came from the ship of billionaire heiress, Doris Duke. The person who sold it claims that her grandfather was commissioned to raise the ship from one of the great lakes. This compass was partial payment for his services. The card is in excellent condition and so is the glass which is remarkably clear and has no visible scratches. Any blemishes are photo reflection. shows a thin'gunk' ring where the glass/metal meet probably from a sealant that attracted some grime. ANTIQUE NAUTICAL BRONZE/BRASS SHIP'S COMPASS FLOATING PATTO 1151A
This listing is for an antique floating bronze/brass ships compass. There is no maker name on it only stamped"PATT 01151A" and"No. 12173702" on the compass face ring. The compass is liquid filled with fleur-de-lis at 0 degrees N and triangles at E. S and W. Degree measures run from 0-90 degrees from N to E, then from 90 back down to 0 at S, then likewise from 0 to 90 to W then back down from 90 to 0 degrees at N. The card is in excellent condition, however, darkened by the age of the compass and there is a bubble in the liquid. The glass is very clear with only light scratches that do not effect compass readings. The fittings on the side suggest this type of compass was originally housed in a binnacle. It is a very nice and operable nautical antique. The compass measures 6" diameter across the face, 6.5" across ... morethe fittings on the side, 3.25" in depth and weighs 5.5 lbs.

The heavy brass compass itself measures app 9.75" in diameter and 6" high. It floats nicely on axis in its bracket and appears to be in excellent working and cosmetic condition other than a wonderful patina showing off its age. Offered is an antique brass binnacle and water dampened compass. Manufacturer is unknown but I think it is US made. Marks include Patt. O 1151 A. Patt I believe is an abbreviation for pattern. Also marked No.13829K.S. These numbers appear both on the compass top and on a plate on the base. I believe it dates between 1900 and the start of WWII. Unit is 10 1/2" high. 10" diameter measured across lamp housing. Compass mount is 6 1/8" and actual compass is 3 3/4" Very solid weighing 11 1/2 lbs. Please see pictures and condition statement. It is in overall good condition for its age: I do see an air bubble in the liquid under the glass and slight clouding of glass on underside. Does show true North! Could be restored. Early large compass made by Ritchie. Boston. The bowl is about 10-11" in diameter. It works. There is a small ding in the center dome. It looks like it might have been in gimbals at one time. It is very heavy. Thanks for looking.
