Here is a solid brass 8 pound marine compass made by Wilfrid O. White& Sons and has Kelvin White Constellation stamped onto the rim as well as a patent number and CB 4652 which might be a model number. It is roughly 7" tall and the base is 4.5" and the ring is about 7" in diameter. It has liquid inside and looks like it is full and compass rotates as it is turned. Kelvin& Wilfrid O. White Co. Cased Ship's Compass in pretty good and appears to be original condition. I am not an expert with compasses but it seems to work well. The case is dove-tailed at all its joints and it is in good condition. There are some minor scratches and wear on the wood case due to age. There is a piece at the bottom that has cracked or came unglued. You can see in the last picture. Both screws that hold the compass are original and identical. The hinges on both sides are also original and good. The black paint in the compass is a little chipped/worn off in some areas but. The metal, glass and compass inside are good. This one seems an early one, I wasn't able to find information on dating by serial number but. This one shows serial number 3567 in two places and it seems a low number so it might be from early on ... more1920 or so. Measurements: Compass: 5-7/8" in diameter without the ring holding it. Box: 8" long by 8" wide by 5-1/4" tall. Weight: approximately 6 lbs A little history about the maker: Wilfrid O. White of Williamstown Australia married the daughter of American George W. Eldridge who published the first Eldridge Tide and Pilot book. Wilfrid came from a family of shipbuilders and he was fascinated with navigation. He took an opportunity to study with Lord Kelvin in the UK and when he returned to Boston in 1918 where he opened up a small nautical instrument dealership. Kelvin and Wilfrid O. White Co. Was located on historic State Street in Boston, a couple of blocks from the busy waterfront. He offered sextants, compasses in large binnacles, chronometers, binoculars, taffrail logs, barometers, and charts for all oceans. Large Antique Kelvin & Wilfrid White Spherical Compass Skylight Binnacle
Estate find. Offered here at no reserve is an antique brass Kelvin& Wilfrid O White Spherical Compass Skylight Binnacle. Six glass panels. One panel having a vertical etched line for taking bearings. And one panel having a black filter. There is a tiny chip in one glass panel in the lower corner(see photo) The base of the compass bowl is fitted with a frosted glass which allowed lighting the card from beneath. The body of the binnacle is in good shape but does have a few soft dents. The skylight fits perfectly to the base, and the cap fits perfectly to the skylight. There is a hard to read number under the flange. Please ask any questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them accurately and promptly. The height is 13" The width. Including the flange, is 9 5/8" The compass card measures 4 1/2" in diameter.

Antique Kelvin White Compass Copper Binnacle Side Lamp
This was an item that we picked up at an estate sale and although we are not experts about the compass we will do our best to describe it. Kelvin White compass mounted in a wood base and copper top. The binnacle including the base is approximately 9.5 inches tall and 8 inches square at the base. The number on the front of the base"Ba No 4" are the only markings. However the compass itself is marked"Kelvin White" The compass does move freely. There is a little door on the copper top that surely held some sort of lamp but there is nothing there now. It looks great the way it is but the new owner could surely polish up the copper and clean the glass. The base bottom does have some splits in it but still feels sturdy. The top comes off as shown but it doesn't slide off easily. We will wrap the top separately from the base ... morewhen shipping to protect them both. I would imagine this was used in some sort of life boat. Please ask questions before bidding and refer to photos as they are part of our description. Description This is an antique early 1900s large brass ships compass for a binnacle. The exterior brass is marked Kelvin& White which is a great maker of compasses. The compas itself is marked Danforth& White. Constellation. Overall the brass case diameter would take a cover that is 12 inches in diameter. The binnacle is currently 11 inches in height, the glass dome is 7 inches in diameter. It probably once sat on a large wood round pedestal and had a brass cover to protect it. It does have a date of 1899 on it so it is probably made then or a little after. It is fantastic quality and in excellent working condition. There is no damage or repairs. Antique Kelvin White US Navy Ships Mark 1 Illuminated Compass 7 1/2" Lionel Corp
This is a large Antique 7 1/2" Kelvin White US Navy Ships Mark 1 N Navy STD Illuminated Compass made by Lionel Corporation NY. NY. This is an old piece it looks like it had some damage and was repaired and painted on the lower half but a very nice repair. I can see some crack lines inside bit everything inside seems to be working. I'm not sure if this is one that was suppose to have fluid in it or not if so it does not have any! The case is really old with old dove tailed corners it is missing the lid and it really shows it's age! I believe this is a very very old compass and it probably was on a ship at one time but I have no way to really check that fact. Because there are the issue I mentioned this is an as is auction this very cool old compass is for repair or parts. The case is 5" tall the compass to outside of swivel ... morering is around 13 3/4" to outside of top brass lip it is just short of 9 3/4" and it weighs 20.6.5 pounds. Has numbers BB1750 and Patent 1987383 stamped on oute ring. Compass and Case has wear from being used over many years. This piece is still solid. There are no cracks in the glass. Glass needs to be cleaned. There are white marks on the glass. But they appear to be on the inside as I cannot feel them on the outside. This is a Great Collector's Piece.
