Vintage antique ship compass Eugene M Sherman Dirigo Seattle early 1900 s works
This antique ships compass is in nice original condition. It is a gimbaled liquid filled compass in an oak box( lid to box is missing) It works great. There is an air bubble and I'm not sure what the liquid is(could be whiskey, distilled water, alcohol, or other) but can be refilled or topped off. The gimbal and housing are made of brass with a black finish. Thanks for looking.

This listing contains a bunch of Maritime Items I purchased from a woman whose late husband collected maritime antiques. Included in this lot are a Dirigo Compass which has some of the water missing and the compass is warped inside of it. Also included is a small John E. Hand Compass which also has most of the water gone. There is a vintage aqua Meter which is working and a couple other compasses as well two steam gauges. antique Dirigo compass 3" card
Small Dirigo compass. Made in Seattle, card marked"DIRIGO" and"E H Sherman Seattle Wash. This one has a 3" card, and measures 4" across the bezel ring. Dirigo Compass Co started in business in 1907. I'm not able to date this one with any precision, but it's been many years since they were made with the Sherman name on them. This one is dry, because the diaphragm plate leaks. It can't hold oil. It still points North, of course, but would be hard to steer by in a boat without the steadying influence of liquid. There is no gimbal ring. the paint is peeling because of lack of liquid.

Antique EM Sherman Dirigo Nautical Floating Compass 4" in Wood Box
You are bidding on a beautiful Eugene M. Sherman floating"Dirigo" brass compass. Compass measures 4" and is in a beautifully dovetailed 6" wooden box. Both the box and compass are in very good condition. The box has the original hooks and dovetails are all intact. Wood shows some weathering. But looks nice. Brass compass has a small amount of oxidation and a few scratches. There is a large bubble in the fluid in the compass, but compass floats freely and moves easily. It reads due north. Compass comes with its Original box and is in GREAT CONDITION free of stains. Cracks, and chips. Compass and box look AMAZING and look hardly used. Box features Solid Hardwood DOVETAIL Construction. I think the box may be missing the latch but this should be an easy replacement. The compass has a total diameter(including ring) of 4" and is likely made of brass being a ships compass. Measures approx. 5.5' in diameter including box. Check out the pictures and judge the condition for yourself as these are considered part of the description.
