SHELDON NUMBERED PATENTED ADJUSTABLE INVALID CHAIR Designed and patented by architect and inventor Cevedra B. Sheldon, Manufactured by MARKS of Broadway, this remarkable museum piece is a part of New York history. Think E.L. Doctorow's Waterworks. The very heavy iron-framed chair folds and can be firmly fixed by ratchets and knobs in a variety of positions(55! including a flat bed. Wrought iron. Ratchets, and railway striping! Wicker. Walnut, and wooden wheels! The iron is painted black with rubbed red and gilt detailing and the number 6213. It has a decorative crest with three spindles in walnut. And very finely woven cane panels. Possibly original, weak in places. While other examples of this chair have been newly upholstered, ours has original horsehair armrests covered in faded brown velvet with reddish tassels, and attached by big ... morescrews, and two matching cushions, the back one tied to frame with(rather bedraggled) tasseled strings.
