The white enamel dial features Roman numeral s and Brequet-style. Blued steel hands for the hours and the minutes. Above the X11 are two letters- R/A. This is a secondary fine timing adjustment. The letter R means retard or to slow it a bit and A indicates avance or to speed up just a bit. There is a slight scratch on the dial which extends just over the V1 chapter on the dial. The time and single bell movement is visible on the reverse. The movement also features a brass bob detachable gridiron pendulum which can be adjusted as well to fine tune the accuracy of the movement. The back plate features the makers stamp and movement numbers in addition to an additional stamp for La Croix de la Legion d'Honneur which he was awarded for his contributions to Horology. The top center of the dial bears the name of the clockmaker and noted horologist Constantin- Louis Detouche(1810- 1889) Constantin was the head of The House of Detouche who were on the forefront of French Horology by combining artistic elegance with scientific precision. The dial has an abbreviation-Fseur which means fournisseur or provider as he was appointed as the official clockmaker to The City of Paris and to the Emperor Napoleon III as well as the Croix de Danneborg by the King of Denmark. A most exquisite original ... moreantique French clock by the famous maker Japy Freres. It is finely modelled in ormolu(finely gilded bronze) Beautifully finished and in stunning original condition. It is mounted with Sevres style porcelain. Each piece is signed faintly on the reverse by the artist. It is decorated with a pompadour rose pink background, the panel below the dial is delicately painted with a scene of a young couple in a country scene with panels of floral swags to each side. The dial itself is decorated with a cherub with a pair of laurel wreaths, an allegory for success. It is lettered in white cartouches against the pink background with turquoise coloured enamel'jewel' half-hour markers. This is a stunning clock, fine ormolu rather then the usual gilt spelter and very original, unusually the case is stamped with the movement's serial number. The dial is mounted in a gilded drum with a pink porcelain urn above. This is decorated with floral swags and ormolu handles. Laurel swags hang below the dial. The original gesso base is covered with pink velvet. It bears a number that is one less then that of the clock, however it is a perfect fit and therefore we think this is an original numbering error. The rear door is glazed with convex frosted glass. Please note that this style of clock does not have a glazed bezel over the dial) The French movement is by Japy Freres and has the makers mark on the backplate. It is of a higher and finer quality and has a 14 day time and ... morestrike movement striking on a coil gong. The dial is alabaster and measures 12 1/2 inches in diameter; the numerals are large porcelain and rest in solid brass trim plates of which all are bright polished and lacquered. The back panel and case are brass inlay in red tortoise shell separated by a very fine and decorative brass casting of which all is polished and lacquered. The dial bezel is also a very fine and decorative brass casting. The hands are original brass. Polished and lacquered. The height of the case is 26 1/4 inches, the width from side to side at the points is 25 1/4 inhes; the diameter at the hex sides is 22 1/4 inches. The box part of the case which houses the movement has been cleaned, sanded and re-lacquered in black lacquer and so the entire clock is a beautiful and very rare show stopper of unmatched beauty. A stunning. ... moreChic classical antique French boudoir clock set. It is beautifully made in crisp white marble mounted with ormolu(fine gilded bronze/ brass) in the classical taste of Louis XVI. To the top is a flaming finial and quiver of arrows with a swag and flowers. The front is blind fretted with a motif of musical horns and flowers. The side urns have rams head handles and pineapple finials. This is a clock set of excellent quality, the white marble contrasts very nicely with the ormolu which is in excellent condition. The beautifully understated dial is white convex enamel. Elegantly lettered, and fitted with the original finely fretted gilt brass hands and convex glass. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish to the marble. There are occasional light scratches some nibbles to the edges. There is hardly any wear to the original gilding. There are some light scratches to the back. It has two repeater functions- the more common button on top for repeating hours and a very rare button on the back for repeating 5 minutes. In fact. I own six grande and petite sonnerie carriage clocks and this is only the second 5 minute repeater that I have ever come across. I am still highly debating whether I really want to sell it, but I do prefer carriage clocks with more ornate cases. This clock is fully functional- it runs and strikes properly, also both repeaters work perfectly. One side glass has a small chip(see the photos) Front glass has a tiny surface chip, so small that I have not been able to take a picture that shows it. I have not timed the clock to see if it keeps the time accurately. But this is, of course, easily adjustable. Pictures speak for themselves, but do let me know if you have any additional questions. The clock measures 7" high(with handle extended up) 3.75" wide and 3.25" deep. I am not a clock dealer- I am a clock collector and a member of NAWCC.
