Powerful KUNIYOSHI Japanese woodblock triptych “The Great Battle, Ishibashiyama”
A rare and highly desirable original triptych from the estate of a prominent Japanese collector! This exciting original triptych is from the estate of a prominent Japanese collector. It is a masterpiece by the great Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Japanese, 1797-1861) and was printed in 1836, well over a century and three quarters ago. Kuniyoshi was active in the Edo Period during the final years of the Tokugawa shogunate. His work was diverse and covered a broad range of subjects including his superb warrior prints such as this dynamic one. The great battle of Ishibashiyama was fought on September 14. 1180, on Kite Cliff at Ishibashiyama in Izu Province between the several thousand-man army of Taira no Kiyomori and a few hundred men of Minamoto Yoritomo who was attempting to return from exile to claim the throne. As the battle progressed and he was being ... moresounded defeated, Yoritomo sought refuge and hid in the hollow tree trunk on the left side of the triptych with seven of his men. He was eventually spirited away to safety by a spy he had embedded in the Taira army. The violence of war rages throughout the scene. In the center panel a Taira commander sits astride his black horse, with the butterfly“mon” or crest of the Taira clan carried behind him, as he urges his troops forward. In the right panel two warriors tumble down the cliff, defeated by the enemy above. KUNIYOSHI Japanese woodblock triptych “Tametomo Shipwrecked by a Giant Fish”
Stunning Portrayal of the Legend of Tametomo& the Giant Fish! Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Japanese, 1797-1861) was one of the greatest of the ukiyo-e artists. He was active in the Edo Period during the final years of the Tokugawa shogunate. His work was diverse and covered a broad range of subjects such as this fantastic dynamic shipwreck and rescue triptych. The original of this scene was painted c. 1851-1852. Desirable Beauty Triptych Snow Scene This marvelous triptych was created by Kunisada(Japanese. 1787-1865) He was one of the most popular and most prolific of all the great Japanese ukiyo-e artists. Kunisada, the son of an affluent merchant. Was born in Honjo, an eastern district of Edo. Present-day Tokyo. At the age of fifteen he joined the famous art school of Utagawa Toyokuni I. After his master’s death, Kunisada began calling himself Toyokuni III. From the beginning, Kunisada was a trendsetter in the art of the Japanese woodblock print. Always at the vanguard of his time, and in tune with the tastes of the public, he continuously developed his style and did not adhere to the constraints set by any of his contemporaries. Fine 18th c antique Russian Greek traveling silver triptych icon repousse riza
This very old Russian triptych icon measures 9" when opened by 3.5" The case is bronze with heavy decoration on both sides when closed and has a closure. There are gilded repousse silver plaques with saints on 2 sides and angel with Mother and Child in center. One silver plaque is loose and needs 2 tiny pins to keep it in place. The under paintings are on wood. One is shown with some paint losses but you can see the fine detail. There is a corner missing on a back piece and another on same part needs reattaching. I MUST GO DOWN TO THE SEAS AGAIN, TO THE LONELY SEA AND THE SKY, AND ALL I ASK IS A TALL SHIP AND A STAR TO STEER HER BY. ITEM DESCRIPTION: This is an original triptych in watercolor depicting the last voyage of the ill fated wanderer whaling ship out of New Bedford. Massachusetts. Shows three views of the ship. Under glass in a wood frame. Unsigned. The art work is in very good condition, it has never been removed from the frame. There is a small stain on the right side and what could be marks on the interior glass, under the center ship. The frame shows wear. This is the story of the fate of The Wanderer: On August 24th. The Wanderer anchored just west of Mishaum Ledge bell buoy to await a more favorable wind. No one was aware of a large tropical system making its way up the eastern seaboard that would pass just south of Cape Cod. By 10 ... moream August 25th very heavy squalls and gale force winds were battering the Wanderer from the northeast. The anchor chain parted, and although a second anchor was dropped, the vessel was driven across the mouth of the Bay onto the rocks of Cuttyhunk. Wedged high on the rocks, the vessel was a total loss. Wreckers salvaged provisions, whaling gear, sails, boats, the figurehead and many other items before a second storm on September 30th completely broke up the hull. The Wanderer’s mizzen mast stood as a flag pole in Shipyard Park until 1964 when lighting brought it down. Today it hangs in the Carriage House of the Mattapoisett Historical Society. Soviet Union Posters Old Vintage Framed Large Triptych Three
These are three framed Soviet Union posters from the late 1980s. It shows the flags of all fifteen Soviet republics. With a caption that reads in Russian: fifteen republics forming one, the Soviet is our state. They are framed behind glass in gold metal frames. Each one measures 38 1/4" high by 26" wide. They are very heavy, which is why I'm not going to ship them. One of the corners is completely torn off. Shown in the 6th picture. The middle poster has a white spot on the top of the center flag- I think the paper just got worn off. There's a tear or crease in the bottom of the center poster, shown in the 5th picture. In general, they look great from a few feet away, but if you look at them closely, you can tell they are old paper posters that once hung on a dorm wall with no protection before they were framed. Large Original antique mirror triptych, beveled, etched glass, frameless, 48" w
Largish. Antique Victorian mirror triptych in very good condition. Silver is bright just flaked around the edges to various degrees. Glass is not chipped except the bottom right panel, bottom right corner, does not encroach on the nail hole. You should be able to see this in one of the pics. Beveled around the sides and top. Each side panel is 12" wide and 14.5" at the highest arch. Middle panel is 22" wide and 16.5 high. About 48" wide when you put them all together with an inch spacing.
