antique Arts& Crafts LONG SCARF(ecclesiastical stole? yellow figured silk tassels ANTIQUE SCARF BELT ECCLESIASTICAL GARMENT( c 4.5" x 41" excluding long tassels) see photos below I believe this to be a vintage- possibly antique piece. Whilst I've listed it as a scarf(it would be lovely! I wonder whether it may have been designed as a stole- part of ecclesiastical dress. Beautiful intense yellow(very Edwardian/Art Nouveau) woven in satin stripes with ends woven in chevrons interspersed with circles(themselves divided in four) Luxurious long silk tassels made from the extended warp of the fabric. Very soft and draping. The colour in the photo of the scarf on my size 10 dress form is the most accurate- other photos taken against black tissue seem to have leached both the yellow and black a bit. Looked at carefully there are ... moreone or two very faint age related marks and a couple of pin pricks- they don't detract from the beauty of the item to me and I haven't tried to dry clean this(it's clean and not grubby! Could be worn as a scarf or cravat by a man or woman- or carefully wrapped in tissue(where it's been for many years) as a collector's item. I have recently acquired this in a wonderful collection of antique and vintage lace. Broderie anglaise and trimmings. I will be gradually listing this over the coming weeks as I familiarise myself with the techniques and nomenclature involved. My father worked in the silk trade all his working life(and a silk museum on retiring! Am offering more pieces of vintage broderie anglaise and lace over next few days. ANTIQUE CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK SHAWL/STOLE: DRAGON & PHOENIX w/ BIRDS, FLOWER
This is a beautiful hand-embroidered silk shawl or stole from China. I am guessing from the early 1900's to the'20's. The fabric is a creamy, lustrous ivory silk and features a stylized dragon and phoenix in the clouds encircled by interlocking square'spirals' interspersed with 8 flowers. The Dragon and Phoenix are symbols of the Emperor and the Empress. They are quite fantastic! It appears as though the Phoenix is extending some kind of ball or sphere in her claw to the Dragon. This middle design is 21" in diameter. On either end is a lovely open design of a large pink chrysanthemum amongst graceful light tan/apricot plum blossoms. The stems are warm brown and there are vines of silvery blue with blue and green leaves[ivy? Along the stems are lavender, blue, pink, and apricot'buds' and there are aqua and ... morepink just-opening chrysanthemums. Hovering over each arrangement are two birds in blue, green, aqua, flesh, and pink. Just exquisite. It is fully lined with a pink tissue silk. That almost has the look of raw silk, as it is slightly nubby.or perhaps they are just tiny catches and pulls over the years? The silk part of the stole measures 78" in length by 24" wide. There is silk knotting and fringe on three sides- both sides and bottom- measuring 2-1/2" of knotting and an additional 3" of fringe. Total length = 89" and width is 29-1/2" This would be a great addition to any collection. But is also very wearable. Condition issues: this is in very good vintage condition. If it were clean. I would say EXCELLENT, but unfortunately, it appears that there may have been a mishap with some spilled red wine on the right shoulder area[photo#8] The darkest area is about 2 x 3, but you can faintly see the spill for about 6- 7 inches. I can only imagine someone dashing a glass of wine in her date's face, with it splashing upon her shoulder! However, the stain does NOT go all the way through to the lining. Lot's of time and precision hand work went into making this piece. Created entirely by hand, meandering bobbin formed clothwork tapes scrolling back and forth reminiscent of Milanese style, lovely mesh ground and wheater accents with 3 leaves. I believe the threads are a silk/ linen blend, a bit more coarse than if all silk but with a nice weight and hand. Condition is excellent! I can find no holes, tears nor stains to report, I did just find a tiny break in the ground while measuring, but you may never even notice it. This would make a lovely wrap or wedding stole. Color is an extremely light off white ecru(almost beige but not quite) similar to the color of most silk maltese laces. This is triangular ... morein shape. Elegant Danish Modern Dining Table in Excellent Condition Made By Vejle Stole This is a truly rare and unique table. A warm solid teak patina in amazing condition. Without leaves the table is 64 1/2" inches long and extends(draw leaves) to 107 3/4" The leaves conveniently store underneath the table when not in use. Table top sits on top of naked base(pictured) The width is 37" Distance from floor to table top is 29" Distance from floor to underside of table top is 24 1/2" The table was purchased and almost exclusively held in storage. This is a wonderful stole ~~ it is a silver gray color ~~ measurements are: from back of neck down the back is 16" from neck side(shoulder) to end of arm(elbow) 16" from end of arm across the front to other end is 28" from collar down the front to longest point in front is 22" ~~ Condition is wonderful, lining is in great condition, the only thing I can find wrong is it smells like it has been stored, perhaps a cleaning will take care of that. ~~ I found no other labels except the one in the picture. And so useful either to wear as a capelet or stole, or as a collar on your own project such as evening dress, little black dress etc. It is a small cape shape. With the front fastened by a metal hook and eye, and with a black silk bow at the front. It is lined in black cotton bombazine. The feathers are pieces of ostrich. Stiched onto the black lining- the feathers are black with hints of brown. I think it dates from the very end of the 19th/beginning of the 20th century. Up to about 1920. The condition is very good. Just with some pin-holes in the lining. And some thining of the feathers, but nothing ... moretoo dramatic at all. The black ribbon bow has suffered though- now rather shredded.
