I have for sale an exceptional souvenir champagne glass from the 1911 Syria Shrine Temple Imperial Council Session held in Rochester NY. The Phoenixmasonry Masonic Museum has this to say about this champagne glass and Council Session. Each year Syria Shrine Temple produced a glass to commemorate the Imperial Council Session that they were to attend. These glasses were sold and traded much like todays baseball cards and pins and were the most sought after collectibles at these conventions. Syria Temple commissioned Westmoreland Glass Co. and United States Glass Company to produce a different glass each year with a"theme" suited to the city that they were visiting. This glass was designed for the Imperial Session in Rochester. New York. The Syria Shriners are riding their camels from Pittsburgh to Rochester and getting their pictures ... moretaken by a man behind a camera(Rochester is the Home of Kodak Camera) This glass stands 4 3/4 inches tall. I have seen many souvenir type glasses in my lifetime. But this one is by far the best I have ever seen or owned. I have been over this piece several times looking and feeling for any type of chip or sign of a crack of any size and I am happy to say I can not find one. Given the intricate design of this champagne glass it is very hard to believe, but it is. My pictures do not do this item justice and I took many pictures trying to capture the beauty of this piece. Take a look at the swords on the stem. The detail in the handles is just awesome. They look like real miniatures that have been applied to the glass. The gold on the handles is almost perfect on all 3 swords. If you look real close you may pick out the high relief design of the crescent moon with star in between each sword. As you work your way up the champagne glass to the cup portion you will see the scene described by the museum. Again the color is exceptional here as well with very little wear or loss. You start with the detail of Pittsburgh and one of the bridges crossing one of the rivers of the city. The

This is a clay bell depicting one of the Bugaku dance masks that are used at Ise Grand Shinto shrine. It depicts a Bugaku dance mask of Ranryo-O(King Lanling) It is one of the Bugaku dance repertoires and the dancer wears the mask of a golden beast with a dragon perched on its head as it is depicted on this piece. Gagaku is the Imperial court music. Dances performed with the accompaniment of Gagaku ... moreare known as Bugaku. Literally meaning dance with music. It was derived from traditional dance forms imported from China, Korea, India and Southeast Asia mixed with ancient indigenous Japanese music and dance. Now played only in Japan, Gakaku is considered to be the oldest orchestral music in the world. In the dance of Ranryo-O. A dancer dressed in a fringed tunic called Ryoutou with a pair of pantaloon performs the dance. It portrays the heroic deeds of the ruler of third century China Prince Lanling. He was a valiant warrior but known to be very handsome as well. This sweet kindly faced ruler is said to have worn a grotesque mask to hide his face to intimidate his enemies into submission and the dance of Ranyo-O is said to portray the victory dance of Prince Lanling. Ise Grand Shinto shrine of Mie is dedicated to the Sun Goddess Amaterasu Omikami. Located in the city of Ise in Mie prefecture. Ise Jingu is in fact a shrine complex composed of over one hundred individual shrines. The condition is very good and its age is from the 1960's. Please click on the large photo to open the window showing all the large photos. When I was photographing this poster from the 1970 World Expo in Osaka. Japan, I forgot to measure it. Then I carefully rolled it around a tube and tied it with cloth ties. If you need to know the length, I will unroll it and measure it. But I would prefer not to disturb it. But it looks like a pretty typical poster size. I can tell you that the width is a shade over 25" This is fairly heavy stock paper. There are tape marks and pin holes on all four corners. One of the corners has a tear in it too. Though no paper is missing. There are various other spots and marks too. I have tried to accurately show condition. There are numerous light brown stains or spots on the back- maybe foxing? But nothing that affects the front of the poster. I rescued this and ... morethe other posters I am selling from a closet at an estate sale where they were just shoved into a box without any protection. No tubes, not even tied in a roll. Just kind of rolled loosely and standing loosely in an open box. So the condition is not great. But this one I think would look great properly framed. The most obvious issues- the corners- would be mostly hidden by the frame I would think. The body of the poster is still very nice and clean. And this feels and looks like a high quality poster. In great condition. No repairs, nice patina. Base is hollow. I believe it is at least 100 years old, could be much older. Size is 17 3/4 inches tall by 7 7/8 by 6 3/4 inches wide at the base. Exceptional Old Edo Japanese Carved, Lacquered & Gilt Wood Kannon Shrine Statue
This very fine large Edo Japanese carved. Lacquered& gilt wood Kannon(Kwan-Yin) shrine figure mounted within its original painted pine cabinet is a masterpiece of Edo period artistry and craftsmanship. It is in superb condition and has the original crown and jewelry of the period and is entirely original and complete except for 2 missing small finials on the railing surrounding the base of the figure. The case has a repaired crack on the top but is otherwise in very fine condition. The figure measures 14. 5 inches tall and the case is 22.5 inches high. Rare Japanes Antique Samurai Sword WWII Yasukuni Shrine Daito by Kotani Yasunori
YASUKUNI KRAZY! Big. Thick what a monster! Yasukuni Shrine Daito by Kotani Yasunori, the Last Living Yasukuni Shrine sword smith. Born 7 Jan 1909 with the given name Kenzo, Kotani came to the Yasukuni Shrine Nihonto Tanren kai Foundation as the student assistant to Kajiyama Yasunori. He was given the Yasukuni smith name of Yasunori by the war minister, Hayashi Senjuro in 1935. He remained with the Foundation until Japan's defeat in 1945 and obtained a license to make art swords that same year. Swords that he made outside of the Shrine were signed Takenori. His swords are highly regarded and he won many awards including being accepted 5 times at the Shinsaku Meito Ten. Kotani died 1 March 2003 at 94 and was the last surviving sword maker from the Tanren Kai. On 1 July 1935, Kotani Kenzo was granted the sword smith mei YASUNORI by Army Minister Hayashi Senjuro. His swords were highly regarded while working at the Shrine and for two years in 1936 and 1937 he won most of the prizes. Considering that sitting on the panel of judges at the annual bimonthly shinsa was one Kozu Haku sensei, a widely respected authority from the cultural ministry, this was no mean feat and speaks well for Yasunori's ability. He was commissioned to make swords for Higashi no Miya and Field Marshall Terauchi's gunto. He continued working at the Shrine until 1945 when he moved to Kagawa prefecture to continue production. Select village women taught the girls how to be virtuous and dutiful wives, housekeepers, and nurturing mothers. At the appointed time, the initiates reentered village life ready for marriage and family life. The event was celebrated with a promenade around the village at which time the initiated women were honored with gifts of cowries, which were used as currency before the introduction of coins and paper money. An early twentieth-century description of Igbo girls after they had experienced the nkpu(fig. 37) could apply to the Dallas figure. They wear no clothes whatever. Their bodies are smeared all over with Vermilion red and they are decorated with ropes of tightly twisted cloth or threaded cowrie shells. One or more tiny brass bells are fastened to the cloth or cowrie-shell waistband. Rings of brass adorn the legs, graduated in size from the ankles to just above the knees.
