RARE Estate Sale Find: Glass Enclosed Icon Shrine of Saint Fastina from Poland
This is a very rare glass enclosed Icon of Saint Faustina that was obtained at the estate sale of a wealthy French Catholic lady from Boston. Her family said she got it when St. Faustina was canonized in 2000 when she visited the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Poland at the convent where Saint Faustina spent her religious life. The women had a deep devotion to Divine Mercy. It is an icon, could also be used as paperweight as all enclosed in glass, very heavy and back seems to be a slate like material, offered at very low price.

28 page souvenir booklet from Our Lady of the Woods Shrine in Mio Michigan. Original cost was 50 cents in 1958! Black and white with heavyweight cardstock cover. Includes poem and detailed descriptions of all of the features of the Shrine There are a few handling creases. Typical of a piece enjoyed from time to time. There are a few faint stains on the cover. The pages are aged in color also included a folded clipped article from Tempo of the Times- a newpaper section of the Detroit Sunday Times. Dated July 20, 1958. This was saved by my grandmother who went to the dedication and placed in the booklet for safekeeping. There are tears and some pieces missing on the bottom, but the bulk of the article is in tact. I've been investigating for more than 50 years and have worked with numerous police departments and agencies across the United States and abroad. With my children grown. We moved to a smaller home. Due to space limitations, I began selling off some of my extensive collection from my years of investigating. Friends suggested that Ebay would provide a venue for these items. I am not an antique expert and am describing this item from what I see and with the information provided to me and learned in our investigation. I have this item in my collection, and all other items I list, strictly due to their association with paranormal activity. The mausoleum this item up for auction came from began collapsing ... moremany years ago from neglect. This structure was completed in 1894. Today the building is nearly 1/8 mile long and holds nearly 6.500 crypts and hundreds of niches for both human remains and ashes. The mausoleum is furnished with many museum quality sculptures and miles of the world’s finest carrera marble. Hand wrought bronze gates lead to the many private and semi-private family rooms. In addition to the Gothic style chapel and collection of niches for cremains, the chapel also contains a crematory in the lower level. Both the mausoleum and chapel suffer from a lack of maintenance and there are no funds for restoration. Water infiltration caused severe damage in the mausoleum, with pieces of the marble-clad walls falling off and discoloration of the crypts. There was severe damage to plaster and finishes. Vandalism was also a problem, with many copper gutterings and downspouts stolen which caused further water damage. Between walls collapsing and portions rotting away. The remains that were held inside began to spill out of their resting places, literally. The holder looks to be missing a few jewels or rhinestones. ON the front it has Mohammed and graphic. It looks like all the sequins and stones are in place but please look closely I may have missed something. I try to be very accurate. It is embroidered on the inside"F.W. Kays" in yellow. There are some soiled areas on the leather band inside. Otherwise. The hat has no tears, holes, or soil. Very nice condition for its age. Approx. 22" head hole.
