This is a Victorian era shadowbox or shrine titled THE HOLY FAMILY. These were used for last rites or sick calls. It still contains the holy water bottle and crucifix and has the two candleholders still attached. It's nicely reverse painted with only a couple minor paint flakes. The crucifix has some tarnish. This is a vintage Butsudan cabinet, black lacquer with beautiful intricate brass decorative hardware. Curved bi-fold doors open to reveal the ornate scroll design with crane medallion, and also show the front of cabinet decoration as well. Base of the inside has a tiered floor. The outer top and bottom edges have mouldings. The cabinet measures 29 1/2" tall x 16" wide x 9" deep. There is a drawer at the bottom. This is a nice vintage piece.
