Santo Domingo PURPLE Lavender Rounded Square Slab Heishi NECKLACE 27 Inches
Unusual and eye-catching. The heishi is made from gently rounded(it won’t poke you) squares of light purple slab stone of some sort. Possibly a form of amethyst. The color is complex with some blue in it; the shell heishi part is a cream/ yellow/ orange/ pink tone. Total length is 27 inches. The squares are a little larger than 0.3 inches on each side. Two strands of graduated turquoise descending from a triangular section of orange/ red spiny oyster shell to a center of white- the white seems to be a quartz stone. Not shell. A single strand of turquoise heishi extends to the hook and eye type clasp. Not signed but attributed to Donald Crespin, Santo Domingo Pueblo. Measures 26 inches long, using the shortest strand. Made in the style of the old Depression Era thunderbird necklaces that utilized battery casings or phonograph records. This has been updated and improved to an onyx backing and slabs of turquoise and red spiny oyster instead of crushed turquoise like the old ones. It retains the slightly primitive folk-art look. The bird pendant measures 2.2 by 1.5 inches; the ten tabs vary in size from 0.6 to 0.9 inches long. Set off by the cream shell heishi. Old Santo Domingo Pueblo Turquoise Bone Depression Tab Necklace
Here is a ca 1920’s era bone backed necklace from the Santo Domingo Pueblo consisting of a large central tab and 8 side tabs. All fashioned from turquoise chips and black jet or plastic affixed to a bone backing. The beads are made of some type of stone that I believe is gypsum. Measures 21” long, and is in exceptional conditional. This appears to have the original string and clasp set-up, but I am not 100% sure of that. This would make a fine addition to any Native American collection!

Here is a very nice Depression era battery backed necklace from the Santo Domingo Pueblo that was fashioned from old battery plastic and other plastic type materials along with turquoise chip inlays in excellent condition. The beads are made of white glass. Measures 22” long. Consists of 8 side tabs and a central thunderbird that is done in a very pleasing pattern. This was probably restrung at one time. I just don’t know for sure. This would make a fine addition to any Native American collection!

Item Description: This is a rare brass Santo Domingo pueblo belt buckle. It has a unique square shape with raised repousse and handstamp work. The buckle measures appoximately 2 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. The buckle weighs 40 grams or 1.4 ounces. This buckle is signed with the hallmark of the artist and dated 1982. The loop on the back of the buckle is copper and the hook is silver. Brass is more difficult to work with than silver. So only a few silversmiths attempt to create pieces in brass. The Santo Domingo Pueblo is fifth in population of the nineteen New Mexico Pueblos. And is generally considered the most conservative in terms of customs and culture. I believe this to be a Old Santo Domingo/Kewa Kawaika Katsina according to the Book Hopi Katsina Dolls by Colton. If I am in error and anyone does recognize this kachina. Please let me know. I know it could also be an old Hopi or Laguna Katsina as well. It is missing feathers and rattle and I am not sure what else. I carved a rattle for it as can be seen in the photos but have not painted it. If you buy the Katsina and would like the carved rattle included I will gladly do so. I can even paint it white if you'd like. Measures About 14 1/2" High and 5" Wide This old Kachina has seen many moons and is Used Condition as can be seen in the photos. This reversible necklace is 18" long, wearable length, and the focal is 1-1/2" long and 1" across. The bold and brightly colored focal is 1/2" thick. The classic heishi work is smooth as glass, jet beads highlighted with 2 red spiny oyster beads. Near the focal is a 1/2" block bead, inlaid with a variety of shells, all polished to a shiny smoothness. The focal itself is a mosaic triumph, blue green turquoise tiles mixed with orange spiny oyster tiles on one side, and tiled blue turquoise with lapis, flashy mother ... moreof pearl, and two colors of spiny on the other. The entire tiled edge is inlaid as well, with a variety of colors. All the work is shiny and silky smooth to the touch. The artist is Charlene Reano. The real tells of a Santo Domingo piece. Besides the complete smoothness of the work, are the tiny pin shell heishi disks alternating at the very front, so the necklace drapes well. These are ALWAYS found on true Santo Domingo made necklaces. This added effort causes a Santo Domingo heishi necklace to never jut out but drape gracefully no matter what length. This particular necklace has them: about an inch on each side of the focal. The hook and eye findings are Sterling Silver. This is a vintage piece from the Haydon Collection. This fabulous pendant and chain is approximately 14 ½ inches in overall length when clasped. The handmade and hand stamped silver chain with hook and eye clasp is approximately 11 ½ inches long when clasped and is attached to a tufacast Naja pendant containing various geometric stamps. Complimenting the Naja. At its top there is a visually attractive tear drop shaped turquoise stone. The stone is approximately ¾ inches long and the overall dimension of the pendant from the top of the bale to the bottom of the terminal ends of the Naja is approximately 2 7/8 inches. Here is a beautiful little black on cream Kewa pedestal polychrome creamer pottery of the old tourist form. Circa 1910-1920's. It is heavy and somewhat crude with a nice floral design. Antique Spanish Colonial Santo, 18th Century, Saint Roque
This is a beautiful spanish colonial santo. Most likely from the 18th century. The figure is of carved wood with gesso applied then paint and gold leaf. The statue has the origional finish on it. Part of the clothing design is still present which I tried to capture in the last photo. The base is missing and statue has been displayed hanging from the wall. The approx size is 10 1/2 inches tall by 6 inches wide by 3 inches deep. Another Ebayer has identified this santo as Saint Roque.

I just got back to my beautiful Northern New Mexico 2 weeks ago and I hit the ground running. Following leads to purchase beautiful vintage antique Native American and Western Americana Items that I love so much. This came from a private sale in Chacon. NM. The owner was selling off her collection which she purchased in the 60's and most of it was old pawn at that time. Enjoy shopping. One more thing, it is so dry here in NM. SANTO DOMINGO Vintage TURQUOISE NECKLACE with various"found objects" from the Pueblo. This is a very old example of the Depression-era thunderbird mosaic necklaces created by artisans of the Santo Domingo pueblo. This particular piece appears ... moreto be made by a young person due to it's elementary structure and design. During the shortages of that era. These necklaces were fashioned from found and recycled materials including car batteries, phonograph records, plastic utensils, plastic plates and just about any found wood or other objects around the pueblo. This necklace seems very old and was probably made at the beginning of the depression years. I believe the blue green inlayed nuggets to be turquoise. The other materials seem like dark and light wood, perhaps even bone. The tiny heishi shells are delicate and old and the clasp has long since come loose. If you choose to wear this piece, I would take it to an well known jeweler to have his expert advise on adding a clasp or using additional string to connect. Some of the findings are missing on the tabs as you can see from the photos. The necklace measures approximately 24 inches long. The Thunderbird pendant measures 1-1/2 inches high by 1-3/8 inches wide. Personally. I would not wear this piece but rather shadow box frame it. Thank you so much for shopping with me. This is a very good example of Santo Domingo Tourist Ware that could be from around 1930-50. It is nicely done& demonstrates the care and attention to detail that you would expect from a seasoned artist. It has traces of a pencil signature. It is 7" Tall x 6.75" wide. Nicely designed, balanced, symmetrical. It is a classic and traditional form right down to the spirit line running top to bottom through the painted design elements. Condition is good with some roughness and paint flaking. And one area where the paint is thin or was rubbed. I've taken photos from all angles, so you can get a good look. No cracks, chips, or repairs. This is a wonderful piece that any collector would be happy to have in their collection. This is beautiful pottery at a budget price.
